Send the output to the stream URL and stream key shown in YouTube Studio. For multiple videos, use a playlist workflow and verify that the files’ media properties are compatible; the loop option alone does not create seamless transitions or make arbitrary files compatible.
What you need before starting
- A Linux VPS with the real estate videos stored on its disk or on a reliable mounted volume.
- FFmpeg installed on the server. Check the installed version and consult the FFmpeg documentation, because options and behavior should be confirmed against your build.
- A YouTube channel eligible to live stream, with a stream or scheduled broadcast created in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room.
- The stream URL and stream key from Live Control Room. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it, commit it to a public repository, expose it in logs, or leave it in shell history.
- Permission to stream every video, image, music track, graphic, and voice recording in the playlist.
There is no universally correct VPS size for this job. Needs depend on whether FFmpeg re-encodes, the media’s resolution, frame rate and codecs, playlist storage, and network conditions. Measure the actual workload and check the provider’s sustained CPU, disk, transfer, region/network, restart, monitoring, and uptime terms before choosing a plan.
Create the YouTube Live event and protect its key
- In YouTube Studio, open Create and choose Go live to enter Live Control Room.
- Create a stream or schedule a broadcast. A scheduled event gives viewers an event page, but YouTube’s encoder workflow requires you to start the encoder feed and then use the Studio flow to click Go live when the preview is ready.
- Copy the server URL and stream key shown for the event. Store them in a protected configuration file or secret store with restrictive permissions rather than embedding the key in a script that may be shared.
- Start the encoder and wait for the preview in Live Control Room. Check video, sound, orientation, and any change between playlist items before making the broadcast public.
YouTube models the viewer-facing broadcast and the audio-video feed as separate resources. Its Live Streaming API documentation describes scheduled or recurring broadcasts that reuse a stream, and a continuous broadcast with another broadcast started temporarily on the same stream. This can support distinct event pages around a continuing feed, but it requires deliberate broadcast management; a continuously running encoder does not automatically manage the event lifecycle.
Loop one video with FFmpeg
For one compatible MP4 file, the basic pattern is:
ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i input.mp4
-c:v libx264 -c:a aac -f flv
"$YOUTUBE_URL/$STREAM_KEY"Replace input.mp4 with the actual file path. Set YOUTUBE_URL and STREAM_KEY to the values from Live Control Room, using a protected configuration method rather than putting the real key directly in a command that could be saved in shell history. This is a starting pattern, not a tested command or a guarantee that the input is compatible.

-rereads the input at its native rate (equivalent to-readrate 1in FFmpeg documentation), rather than sending the file as fast as possible.-stream_loop -1repeats the input indefinitely.-c:v libx264 -c:a aacre-encodes video and audio to commonly used output codecs. Re-encoding costs CPU; confirm compatibility and settings for your source and YouTube’s current encoder guidance.-f flvselects the output container used in this RTMP-style pattern. Use the server URL and key supplied for the YouTube event.
Before going live, inspect the input’s video and audio codecs, resolution, frame rate, bitrate, audio layout, and container. Compare them with YouTube’s current encoder settings guidance and test the preview. The command does not set a resolution, frame rate, bitrate, keyframe interval, or audio bitrate; those choices should follow the actual source and current YouTube recommendations rather than assumptions about every property video.
Build a playlist without assuming seamless transitions
A single file is the simplest repeatable input. For a set of property tours, prepare a playlist workflow whose files have compatible streams and deliberate transitions. FFmpeg’s -stream_loop -1 loops an input; it does not validate the files, combine unrelated media safely, or guarantee a seamless handoff between arbitrary videos.

- Check that all files have compatible codec, resolution, frame rate, audio layout, and stream structure for the chosen workflow.
- Decide how each transition should look and sound. Test the complete sequence, including the transition from the final item back to the first.
- If files differ materially, standardize or re-encode them to a common output before relying on an automated playlist. Account for the VPS CPU required to do so.
- Do not assume a concat command is safe for arbitrary property-video files. The right playlist/concat method depends on the media streams and desired transition behavior.
Choose stream copy or re-encoding

The example command re-encodes with H.264 video and AAC audio. Do not switch to stream copy solely to save CPU without checking compatibility and the YouTube preview.
Keep the VPS process running and monitor it
Run FFmpeg under an appropriate process supervisor, such as systemd, so it can be managed after an SSH session ends and restarted according to your policy. Configure secrets so they are not exposed in unit files readable by other users or in diagnostic output. Monitor the FFmpeg process, server disk space, outbound network, and YouTube ingest status. A process supervisor can restart a failed process, but that alone does not guarantee YouTube reconnect behavior or uninterrupted viewer playback.

There is no prescribed CPU, RAM, disk, or bandwidth size for this workflow. Re-encoding higher-resolution or higher-frame-rate media can require more CPU; larger playlists need more storage; the stream requires sustained outbound capacity. Validate those needs against the actual files and load, and review the VPS host’s transfer limits and network quality to YouTube ingest.
Plan scheduled events, continuous feeds, and archives
A scheduled broadcast and a continuous feed are different operational choices. A scheduled stream promotes a specific event and follows a Go live step in Studio. YouTube’s Live Streaming API can manage broadcasts and streams as separate resources, including recurring events and a continuing feed with separate broadcasts, but API-based automation requires development and authorization.

YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not treat an indefinite broadcast as a guarantee of one complete archive; plan broadcast boundaries and archive handling if you need complete recordings. See YouTube’s encoder live-stream guidance for the current workflow.

For a basic FFmpeg VPS loop, use the normal encoder workflow and the server URL and key from Live Control Room. YouTube also documents HLS ingestion for selected workflows. Its HLS setup guidance describes segment, playlist, and HTTPS requirements and notes that HLS has higher latency than RTMP because it sends video in segments. HLS is not the default choice for a straightforward file loop unless the workflow specifically calls for it.

Clear rights and understand monetization rules
Having permission to use footage is not the same as meeting YouTube’s monetization rules. YouTube’s channel monetization policies say content should be original and authentic rather than mass-produced, generic, or repetitive. The policy also treats reused content separately from copyright: republishing material without significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value can affect monetization eligibility even when you have permission to use it.
For real estate footage, make the stream useful to viewers rather than simply repeating minimally changed tours to accumulate views. Add genuine context such as informative narration or property details where you have the rights to use them, and clear rights for all footage, music, graphics, and voiceover. YouTube’s policy says content should be made for viewers’ enjoyment or education, not solely to get views.
Troubleshoot common failures
