Choose Firefox Screenshots for occasional full-page or selected-area captures you want to save as an image or copy. It is built into Firefox and needs no separate extension purchase. Choose FireShot if your workflow calls for annotation, PDF output, batch capture, or more export options; verify that the features you need are available in its current tier and on your platform. This is a documentation-based comparison, not a hands-on test of speed, reliability, or image quality.
What each tool can do
Firefox Screenshots
Firefox’s built-in Screenshots feature can capture the full page, the visible area, a custom selection, or an automatically highlighted part of a page. You can download a capture as an image or copy it to the clipboard. Mozilla’s documentation describes no built-in annotation or PDF-export workflow in this feature. Mozilla’s Firefox Screenshots guide
FireShot
FireShot describes full-page, visible-area, and selection capture, as well as capturing open tabs or a list of URLs in batch mode. Its listed tools include cropping and resizing, highlighting, blurring, erasing, text annotations, clipboard copying, and export options including PDF, PNG, GIF, JPEG, and BMP. The vendor also describes email, OneNote, upload, and API options. These are vendor feature descriptions, not independent test results. FireShot’s product page
FireShot separates its Lite/basic option from Pro. Its feature and purchase pages describe advanced PDF export, editing and smart annotations on Windows, capture history, batch and automated capture, and offline operation for Pro. Exact availability can depend on tier, operating system, and version, so check the vendor’s current comparison before choosing. FireShot Lite/Pro comparison · FireShot Pro purchase page

Capture a full page in Firefox
- Open the webpage in Firefox.
- Right-click an empty part of the page and select Take Screenshot, or press Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows/Linux or Command+Shift+S on macOS.
- Choose the full-page capture option. You can instead select a visible area, drag a custom region, or choose a highlighted page part.
- Download the image to Firefox’s default download folder, or copy it to the clipboard for use in another app.
Mozilla also documents adding a Screenshots button to the toolbar. The same help page covers keyboard controls for moving and resizing a selection; it notes that moving the crosshair does not work on Wayland. Firefox Screenshots instructions

Privacy and data handling
Mozilla says Firefox Screenshots collects interaction events, such as whether someone uses Copy or Save full page, but states: “We never collect data such as the URL or details of the image captured.” Its article links to Firefox’s technical and interaction data controls. Telemetry about using a control is distinct from uploading the screenshot itself. Mozilla’s privacy explanation
FireShot says Pro captures are processed locally and that the product works offline. Its Lite update page says screenshots are stored locally and sent to an image host only when the user intentionally requests an upload. These are vendor statements; they are not an independent audit of the extension’s code, network traffic, or privacy practices. FireShot comparison and product information · FireShot Pro information
