A screenshot records what is rendered; it does not automatically remove interruptions. Firefox has built-in screenshot controls and a developer-console option for more control. For recurring full-page captures, an extension is another choice—but no method guarantees every ad or overlay will disappear.
Choose the right way to get a clean screenshot

For a single capture, start with your browser’s built-in feature. Firefox’s official help explains how to capture a selection and save it. For Chrome, Edge, or Safari, look for the browser’s current screenshot or full-page capture command; menu names and availability can change.
Capture the page with browser controls
- Load the page. Wait for the layout and visible content to settle. If a consent prompt or ordinary dialog appears, dismiss it with the site’s own controls when appropriate.
- Use the browser’s screenshot feature. Choose a visible-area or selection capture if that is all you need. In Firefox, follow Mozilla’s current screenshot instructions.
- For a full-page image, select the full-page option if your browser provides one. If it does not, use a suitable extension or another supported capture route. A very long or dynamically changing page may not render the same way as a static view.
- Inspect the saved file. Check that the page is complete and overlays are not covering important content. Crop or redact account details and other private information before sharing.
Use Firefox’s Web Console for a controlled capture
Firefox developer documentation describes the Web Console :screenshot helper, with options including a delay, device-pixel ratio, and filename. This is useful when a page needs a moment to settle or you want to control the saved capture. Open Firefox’s Web Console and consult Mozilla’s documented screenshot helper options for the current syntax and supported arguments. The helper does not itself remove ads, consent prompts, or other page elements.
Hide a specific obstruction only when needed
If a floating widget or overlay remains in the way, first try the site’s close or dismiss control. A content blocker may prevent some ads, but it will not necessarily remove every overlay. As a more advanced, temporary option, a developer-tools page edit can hide a specific element from your local view before capture. This changes only what you see in that browser session; it does not alter the site or remove the element for other visitors. Exact steps differ by browser, and hiding the wrong element can also remove useful content or change the layout. Verify the result before saving.

Consider a full-page extension for repeat captures
GoFullPage is listed in both the Firefox Add-ons store and the Chrome Web Store. The store listings describe full-page capture; the Firefox listing also describes image and PDF downloads. These are publisher-provided listing claims, not independent tests. Check the current feature description and permissions in your browser’s store before installing, especially if the page contains sensitive information.
For repeated captures, an extension can reduce manual steps, but it does not guarantee that sticky elements, lazy-loaded images, or dynamic content will appear exactly as intended. Scroll through or otherwise load the content you need, then inspect the exported file.

- The pop-up is still visible: Use its close or consent control if appropriate. A blocker or temporary local hide may not apply to every kind of overlay.
- The page is cut off: Confirm that you chose a full-page capture rather than a visible-area selection. If the browser does not offer full-page capture, consider an extension or API.
- Images or sections are missing: Some pages load content as you scroll or after a delay. Wait for the page to settle and load the required sections, then capture again.
- A sticky banner covers content: Dismiss it through the site if possible. If you hide an element in developer tools, confirm you selected only the obstructing element and review the resulting layout.
- The extension requests access you do not want to grant: Do not install it; use the browser’s built-in screenshot controls or another method you trust. Review current store permissions before granting access.
- The saved image contains private details: Do not share it until you have inspected it and cropped or redacted sensitive information.
