One video file
Wowza’s guide to publishing a video file as a live stream documents the ServerListenerStreamDemoPublisher server listener. It publishes a VOD file as a live stream and repeats it until the listener is terminated. The setup can be made through Engine Manager or by editing Server.xml. Wowza describes this as a static configuration and points to Stream Publisher for a more dynamic solution; it is not a full playlist manager.
Multiple videos or scheduled items
Use Stream Publisher when the program needs multiple items or scheduled playback. The scheduler reads an application-specific SMIL file stored in that application’s Stream Storage directory. Each application loading a schedule needs its own file. Wowza warns that scheduler SMIL uses extra tags that Engine Manager’s SMIL editor cannot recognize, so create or edit the scheduler file in a text editor.

Set the application’s
streamPublisherSmilFileproperty to identify the SMIL schedule file, and place that file in the application’s Stream Storage directory. -
In the SMIL schedule, define the stream and reference it from a playlist. Use
repeat="true"when the playlist should continue looping. Withrepeat="false", the stream shuts down after that playlist ends. -
Choose playback attributes for each item: use
start="-2"for a live source; for an on-demand source usestart="0"or a positive offset. Setlength="-1"to play to the end, or use a positive length in seconds to cap playback. -
Use the scheduler’s
scheduledattribute to set a playlist start time. If a begin time has already passed, playlists load in order and a later playlist can immediately replace the one before it. Do not copy the historical example dates in Wowza’s sample as current scheduling values.Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Send Wowza’s output to YouTube Live

In YouTube Live Control Room, create or select the destination stream and retrieve its stream URL and stream key. YouTube’s encoder setup guide describes this general workflow.

In the Wowza output or publishing configuration for your installed Engine version, enter the YouTube stream URL and key. The available controls and exact Manager path depend on the Engine version; the public YouTube setup instructions do not provide one universal Wowza click path for every release. Use the documentation for your installed version rather than assuming a particular menu or output workflow.

Prefer RTMPS if your Engine version’s output workflow supports it. YouTube recommends RTMPS, which is RTMP over TLS/SSL, and exposes its RTMPS URL in stream settings. Check the applicable Wowza version documentation to confirm support and configuration. See YouTube’s RTMPS guidance.

Keep the stream key private: YouTube treats it like a password and an address for the stream. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update the Wowza output with the replacement key. See YouTube’s stream-settings guidance.
Set encoder parameters and test before relying on the loop
Match Wowza’s output to the current recommendations in YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate guide. YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds, constant bitrate (CBR), and AAC or MP3 audio for RTMP/RTMPS. The recommended bitrate depends on the video codec, resolution, and frame rate, so select the matching row in YouTube’s current table and confirm the available upstream capacity can sustain it.

Start the Wowza publishing workflow and inspect the incoming feed in YouTube Live Control Room before depending on it for an unattended broadcast.

Watch stream health during the test and confirm the intended file or playlist continues through its repeat cycle.
YouTube’s encoder guide recommends testing and monitoring stream health. A successful connection at startup alone does not establish that an unattended playlist will continue as intended.

The stream stops when the file ends: If you intended to loop a single VOD, check that you used the documented
ServerListenerStreamDemoPublishersetup and that the listener remains active. For a multi-item playlist, check thatrepeat="true"is set; a playlist withrepeat="false"shuts down after it ends. -
A later playlist replaces the current one immediately: Check its
scheduledbegin time. Wowza says a schedule whose begin time has passed can load in order and immediately replace the preceding playlist.What’s actually slowing this PC down?

The schedule does not load: Confirm the application’s
streamPublisherSmilFilepoints to the intended file and that the file is in that application’s Stream Storage directory. Make sure scheduler SMIL is edited outside Engine Manager’s SMIL editor, which Wowza says cannot recognize its extra scheduler tags. -
YouTube does not receive the Wowza feed: Verify the destination stream URL and key in Wowza against the selected stream in Live Control Room. If the key may have been exposed, reset it in YouTube and replace it in Wowza. Confirm RTMPS support for your Engine version if you chose that endpoint.

YouTube reports poor stream health: Compare codec, resolution, frame rate, keyframe interval, audio format, and bitrate with YouTube’s current encoder recommendations. Confirm the upstream connection can sustain the selected bitrate, then repeat a representative test and monitor health.
