Add your YouTube channel to Artlist Clearlist before starting a livestream that uses Artlist music, and keep the relevant subscription active. This reduces avoidable interruptions and helps YouTube recognize licensed music, but it is not a guarantee against live matches or later claims. Artlist’s livestream coverage applies to music in the video stream—not music played to an in-person audience.
Before you go live: Artlist channel clearance checklist
- Confirm where the music will be heard. Artlist’s livestream guidance covers music included in the video livestream. It does not cover playing that music to an in-person audience at an event. Artlist’s YouTube livestream guidance
- Check that your plan includes music and has room for the channel. Artlist’s Clearlist guidance lists different channel allowances by plan; see the plan details below and confirm current allowances in your account. Artlist Clearlist guidance
- Add the correct YouTube channel to Clearlist before the broadcast. Artlist specifically says to Clearlist the channel beforehand. YouTube also advises licensed creators to ask the rights owner to allowlist their channel through Content ID. Artlist · YouTube Help
- Keep proof of the license and the track used. Retain the track’s license certificate or subscription evidence, and record which track is in the stream. A claim can reflect an unrecognized license, but it can also result from a missing Clearlist entry, an upload outside the active license period, or use beyond the license scope. - Check any archived stream after it ends. YouTube says it makes Content ID claims on archived livestreams after the broadcast is complete. Live scanning and an archive claim are distinct stages. YouTube Help
How Clearlist works—and what to verify
Artlist describes Clearlist as a way to connect a YouTube channel or individual video with a subscriber’s account so YouTube can recognize licensed use. The applicable plan must include music. Its help article lists these channel allowances:
| Artlist plan | Channel allowance listed by Artlist | Additional detail |
|---|---|---|
| Social | One YouTube channel | — |
| Pro | Three YouTube channels | Unlimited individual YouTube videos may also be Clearlisted. |
| Team | Five channels per platform | — |
| Enterprise | Unlimited channels | — |
These are the allowances in Artlist’s current Clearlist help article; check your account for applicable terms before relying on them. Artlist says you cannot link channels or videos to Clearlist after a subscription expires, and content published after expiry is not covered by the license. Its instructions recommend entering the exact channel ID rather than a username or custom link. A channel may need an uploaded video before it can be added; for a new channel without videos, Artlist directs users to enter the YouTube Channel ID. Follow the current prompts in your account if its interface differs. Artlist Clearlist guidance
What happens when YouTube detects a match?
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content matches, including another copyrighted live broadcast. If it detects a match, YouTube may replace the stream with a placeholder image and warn you to stop using the content. If the matched material remains, the stream may be interrupted or terminated. A copyright or Community Guidelines strike can also lead to termination. YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance

A license alone does not ensure uninterrupted playback: YouTube says a licensed stream can still be interrupted when the channel has not been allowlisted. An archived livestream may receive its Content ID claim after the live broadcast ends, if YouTube archives it. These rules do not establish that Clearlisting prevents every interruption or claim; check the specific track, license scope, active subscription, and channel entry.
Why did I get an Artlist claim when I have a license?
A Content ID claim is an automated match notice, not by itself proof that you had no license. Artlist identifies several possible causes: the system did not recognize a valid license, the channel or video was not on Clearlist, the content was uploaded outside an active license period, or the use was outside the license terms. Check the claimant name before choosing a response:

1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDoes Artlist livestream coverage include music played to people at an event?
No. Artlist distinguishes the music included in the video livestream from music played to an audience physically present at an event. Its livestream article says the license does not cover in-person playback, so do not treat Clearlisting a YouTube channel as permission for venue or public playback. Confirm the permissions needed for that separate use. Artlist’s livestream asset guidance
Do not register licensed Artlist music as your own Content ID material
Artlist says customers receive a license to use assets, not ownership of them, and that assets or projects containing them may not be registered or claimed through content-detection systems such as YouTube Content ID. If you submit material to Content ID, do not register licensed Artlist music as your own exclusive reference material. Artlist License
