Put the countdown and store hours in the promo-loop video itself, then send that video to YouTube through your encoder. YouTube’s built-in countdown themes are for Premieres, not encoder-based Live streams. To show a countdown during your Live, make it part of the feed viewers see.
Choose where each element belongs
A promo loop and a scheduled-stream trailer serve different purposes. The loop is the video feed sent through your encoder while the Live is running. Put recurring countdown information and store hours in that video if they need to appear during the stream.
A scheduled-stream trailer is an optional video that plays on the watch page before a scheduled Live starts. YouTube says trailers must be 15 seconds to 3 minutes long, and the feature is available to channels with more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guideline strikes. Those limits apply to the trailer, not to your encoder’s promo loop. YouTube Help: Add a trailer to your live stream

Prepare the promo-loop video
Make the countdown clear and current
Add the event start time and the countdown treatment to the video before you send it to the encoder. Choose a format that viewers can understand at a glance, and check that its timing and displayed start time match the event. If the loop will continue playing after the event begins, plan what viewers should see then rather than leaving an expired countdown on screen.
Make store hours readable
Include the store’s hours as text in the video. Use wording and contrast that remain legible on the actual stream, and leave the information on screen long enough for a viewer to read it. Check that the hours are accurate for the relevant location and days; if hours vary, make the applicable days clear.

YouTube’s encoder guidance explains how to send a feed, but does not prescribe a design or editing app for making countdowns or store-hour graphics. Use an editor or graphics workflow you already trust, and verify its current instructions separately if you need app-specific steps.
Schedule and start the encoder-based Live
- Schedule the stream: In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go live, then open Manage and schedule a stream. YouTube’s encoder guide allows you to reuse stream settings or create a new stream. YouTube Help: Stream using an encoder
- Copy the connection details: In Live Control Room, get the stream URL and stream key for the scheduled stream. The URL and key tell your encoder where to send the feed and allow YouTube to accept it. Treat the key like a password: do not publish or share it, and use the key associated with the stream you intend to broadcast. YouTube Help: Stream using an encoder
- Configure your encoder: Enter YouTube’s stream URL and key in the encoder’s corresponding connection fields, and select the prepared promo-loop video as its input. The exact control names vary by encoder; YouTube’s guide does not specify OBS or another third-party app’s button sequence.
- Start sending the feed: Start the encoder and wait for the feed to appear in the Live Control Room preview. Inspect that preview before selecting Go live. YouTube Help: Stream using an encoder
Check the actual preview before going live

- The countdown is legible, shows the intended event start time, and is current.
- The store hours are correct and readable at the stream’s displayed size.
- The loop changes between segments cleanly, without an unintended blank, frozen frame, or misleading expired message.
- The video and any included audio are playing as intended.
Once the preview is correct, select Go live in Live Control Room. A scheduled stream can appear as upcoming, allowing viewers to select Notify me. YouTube Help: Stream using an encoder
Promote the scheduled event
YouTube recommends sharing the stream link at least 48 hours before going live. It also suggests making a teaser or trailer and embedding the link on a website. Viewers who find the scheduled event may be able to select Notify me on its watch page. YouTube Help: Promote your live stream
