For a 24/7 YouTube real estate tour channel that needs property details, maps, title cards, branded overlays, and occasional scene changes, OBS Studio is the practical default. Its visual scenes and sources are suited to building and operating that kind of program. FFmpeg is a reasonable alternative when the broadcast is already a defined, scriptable media pipeline and you are prepared to validate its behavior with your exact files and YouTube setup.
Neither encoder alone guarantees an uninterrupted stream. Your source material, computer, upload connection, monitoring, and recovery plan all matter.
OBS or FFmpeg: which fits a real estate tour channel?

If you are simply repeating one prepared tour video, either tool may work. If the show needs polished layouts or hands-on changes between properties, OBS is easier to configure through its documented interface. For a script-driven pipeline, choose FFmpeg only after validating the complete setup end to end.
Set YouTube’s ingest requirements before choosing encoder settings
YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends RTMPS, CBR, and a two-second keyframe interval; do not exceed four seconds. It lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS ingestion, up to 60 fps, and AAC or MP3 audio. Confirm that your selected encoder and codec are supported in the workflow you intend to run. Choose bitrate for the output you will actually stream
For H.264, YouTube recommends 14 Mbps video bitrate for 1080p at 30 fps and 17 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. These are recommended encoder settings, not a guarantee of the image viewers will receive. YouTube’s page also distinguishes minimum from recommended values and provides separate guidance for AV1 and H.265; consult the relevant entry for your chosen codec and resolution.
Use a bitrate your upload connection can sustain reliably. A real estate tour may combine slow pans, detail shots, motion, and spoken audio; test with representative movement and sound rather than judging only a static scene. Test and monitor the actual broadcast
- Run a test stream before the public broadcast, including audio and movement similar to the real tour.
- Check stream health and read YouTube’s messages during operation; a configured encoder is not proof that ingest is healthy.
- Do not infer a specific finished-stream quality solely from the bitrate recommendation.
Configure OBS to loop a real estate tour
- Build the program as scenes and sources. In OBS, make scenes for the elements the channel needs, such as a property walkthrough, a title or information card, and a branded holding screen. Add the relevant media, images, text, or capture-device sources. See the OBS overview and Sources Guide.
- Add the tour video. Add an OBS Media Source and select the local video file. Enable its looping option if the file should repeat. For a playlist, use the VLC Video source; VLC must be installed, and its installation must match OBS’s bitness. See OBS Media Sources.
- Set YouTube-compatible output. Configure the stream for RTMPS, CBR, a two-second keyframe interval (never over four seconds), a supported codec, and an appropriate bitrate for the selected resolution and frame rate. Use YouTube’s current table for your precise codec and output combination: encoder settings and bitrates.
- Connect to the channel and test privately or as an appropriate test broadcast. Enter the stream key through OBS’s streaming setup, then verify that YouTube receives video and audio and reports healthy stream status. Keep the key private; anyone who obtains it may be able to send a stream to the channel.
- Run a full-duration rehearsal. Check the transition from the end of the video back to its beginning, audio continuity, branding, and any playlist handoffs. Restart the source and OBS during a controlled test to see whether the intended feed returns cleanly.
- Prepare for disconnections. OBS’s overview documents an automatic reconnect option. Enable it and test how it behaves in your setup. Also decide who or what will notice a prolonged outage and restore the feed; reconnect controls do not guarantee recovery.
When FFmpeg is the better fit
Consider FFmpeg when your tour is already produced as a fixed media pipeline, the needed transformations and encoding are defined, and the person responsible can supervise command-line operation. For a visually composed show that needs operator-controlled layouts, OBS has the clearer documented workflow in the sources cited here.
Do not assume that a loop script, process supervisor, or automated restart makes a 24/7 broadcast reliable. Test the selected input, codec, RTMPS destination, loop boundary, audio, and recovery behavior end to end. Exact FFmpeg options depend on those choices; no universal command is safe to prescribe without them.

Keep the stream live: operational checks and troubleshooting
Before going live
- Confirm the selected resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, CBR mode, keyframe interval, and audio format against YouTube’s current guidance.
- Check that the upload connection can sustain the chosen bitrate and leave practical capacity for normal network variation.
- Play the tour from start through its loop point, listening for silence, abrupt cuts, or audio that ends before the picture.
- Verify that property details, maps, title cards, and branding appear in the intended scenes and remain legible at the output size.
- Test reconnection and decide how an operator will detect and respond to a prolonged outage.

Copyright and channel-policy checks for property footage
Only stream footage, music, photographs, maps, and other material you have the rights and permissions to use. A property walkthrough can include third-party music or visuals even when the real estate itself is yours to show. Review permissions for each asset before putting it into a continuous public loop, and check YouTube’s applicable copyright and live-stream rules in YouTube Studio.
