You can remove a claimed section from an archived YouTube livestream without deleting or reuploading the replay. In YouTube Studio, open the claim’s details, choose Take Action > Trim out segment, preview the edit, then save it. Make a backup first: since June 2025, saved YouTube Studio Editor changes can’t be reverted to the original.
Before trimming: download a backup
YouTube says Studio Editor changes saved since June 2025 cannot be reverted with “Revert to original.” Before editing, download the replay or use Google Takeout to download your uploaded videos. YouTube recommends keeping a local recording of livestreams as a backup, too. An external drive is one optional place to store a downloaded copy; it is not required.
Trim the claimed segment in YouTube Studio
- Sign in to YouTube Studio and select Content.
- Find the livestream replay and select its copyright notice, then choose View details.
- Locate the relevant claim and select Take Action > Trim out segment.
- Adjust the start and end times if needed. The entire claimed portion must be removed for the claim to clear.
- Preview the edit and check that it removes the claimed material without cutting more of the replay than intended.
- Select Save, then Trim.
- Wait for processing. Studio displays an editing-in-progress badge and an estimate on the Videos list. After processing finishes, reload the page and check that the edit is present and the claim status has changed.
This edits the existing replay; you do not need to upload a replacement. YouTube’s general trimming guidance says the video URL, view count, and comments remain. That general trim feature applies to videos shorter than six hours. YouTube also says some channels outside the YouTube Partner Program may be unable to save edits to an unedited video with more than 100,000 views, except for face blurring. If Studio does not allow the edit, check the eligibility information shown in your account.
Choose an edit that fits the claim
For a claim on footage or other visual material
Trim out segment removes the selected time interval, including any wanted speech or footage within it. Preview the boundaries carefully. If claimed material remains anywhere in the interval, the claim may stay active.

For a claim on music or other audio
If you want to preserve the video, check the claim’s available audio actions before cutting the entire interval. YouTube’s tools may offer:
- Replace song: replace the claimed track with music from the YouTube Audio Library.
- Erase song: attempt to mute only the claimed song.
- Mute audio in the claimed segment: mute all audio in the interval. YouTube says this is usually faster and more likely to remove the claim than song-only erasure.
These audio tools do not address claims on visual material. Song-only erasure can fail on difficult tracks, and incomplete coverage or audio left in the claimed span may leave the claim active. Preview the change and verify the claim status afterward.

If you think the claim is wrong
Do not remove material automatically if you believe the claim is invalid and you have the rights needed to use the content. YouTube lists disputing a claim as an option when you believe it is invalid and are confident you have the necessary rights. If the claimed timestamps appear inaccurate, YouTube’s claim guidance says to contact Creator Support.
Why an archived livestream can receive a claim later
YouTube explains that archived livestreams can receive Content ID claims after the stream ends. Its guidance says: “Content ID claims are only made after you complete your live streams, if you decide to archive the video.” Streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. Keep a local recording if you need a dependable backup of a long broadcast.

Common problems and what to check
- The claim remains after trimming: check the claim timestamps and make sure no claimed content remains. Reopen the claim details and verify the status after processing.
- The trim is still processing: wait for the editing-in-progress notice to clear, then reload Studio and inspect the replay.
- You would lose important speech or footage: if the claim is audio-only, see whether replace-song or mute options are available instead of removing the full interval.
- Studio will not save the change: check the account’s eligibility and the general limits, including the guidance for some non-Partner Program channels and unedited videos over 100,000 views.
- You have no original copy: pause before saving. Download the replay or use Google Takeout first because saved Editor changes cannot be reverted to the original.
