To keep chart labels visible, enable the axis and its labels, make the chart large enough for the text, reduce crowding only when it preserves meaning, and inspect the saved image or PDF at the size readers will see it. Axis labels (categories, dates, or values along an axis) are separate from data labels printed on bars or points, so turn on each type you need. Controls vary by platform and chart type.
1. Decide which labels the screenshot must preserve
Before changing formatting, identify what a reader needs to interpret the chart. That may include category or date labels on the horizontal axis, values on the vertical axis, a legend, or data values printed directly on bars or points. Keep enough context in the frame for the chart to make sense; a screenshot that shows the values but cuts off the categories is not useful.
Axis labels describe the scale or categories along the chart’s axes. Data labels display individual values on the chart itself. In Looker Studio, for example, axis settings and data-label settings are distinct controls, and options depend in part on the chart type and whether the report uses Modern charts. 2. Format the chart before capturing it
Show the required axes and labels
Open the chart’s properties or formatting panel and confirm that the needed axes and their labels are enabled. If values need to appear on bars or points, enable data labels separately. Apply only controls available for the chosen chart type.

Improve contrast and text size
Where supported, increase axis or value-label font size and choose a text color that contrasts with the chart background. Looker Studio documents axis font size, font family, text color, and rotation controls. Looker chart options also include value-label visibility and font-size controls. Neither product’s settings guarantee readability in every screenshot: judge the actual saved output.
Reduce crowding without losing necessary information
If date or category labels collide, use the chart’s rotation control where available. Looker Studio documents axis-label rotation from 0° to 90°; Looker’s line-chart documentation gives a rotation parameter range of −360° to 360°. Those are platform-specific control ranges, not recommended angles or promises of readability. Looker chart options

You can also shorten labels or show fewer categories if the omitted detail is not needed to interpret the report. Avoid deleting useful context just to make a screenshot look cleaner.
Give the chart more space
Enlarge the chart within the report or browser window before capturing it. Keep its edges inside the frame, and move the pointer away so hover cards do not cover labels. Close menus or toolbars that overlap the chart. There is no universal browser zoom, screenshot resolution, or minimum readable font size: the right choice depends on the chart and where the result will be displayed.

3. Choose an export that preserves the visual
Use an image or rendered document when the goal is to preserve the chart’s appearance. A CSV or spreadsheet export contains data, not a screenshot of the chart; if you need a visual from those files, you must create or capture it separately.

4. Capture and verify the saved result
- Finish chart formatting and confirm that all required axes, axis labels, and data labels are on.
- Choose a rendered export or capture method that preserves the visual. For a browser screenshot, frame the whole chart without covering its edges.
- Open the actual saved image or PDF, rather than relying on the report preview.
- View it at the size readers will see. Check that text is readable, category labels are not clipped, and no chart edge or essential context is missing.
- If labels fail inspection, return to the chart: increase its area, adjust supported text size or rotation, reduce unnecessary label density, then export or capture again.
5. Troubleshoot common label problems
Axis labels are missing
Check whether the axis itself and its labels are enabled. Do not assume that turning on data labels also turns on axis labels; they are separate settings in Looker Studio.
Values on bars or points are missing
Enable data labels in the chart’s formatting options. Availability and placement controls depend on chart type; Looker Studio documents font and position controls for bar and column charts.

Labels overlap or are too small
Give the chart more room, increase label size where supported, adjust rotation if the chart provides that control, or simplify categories only when the removed detail is not needed. Recheck the saved output rather than treating an on-screen preview as proof.
The export contains rows but no chart
You likely chose a data export. CSV and Sheets provide tabular data, and Power BI’s documented export-data route is also about data. Select a rendered PDF or PNG route when available, or capture the chart as an image.
The PDF or PNG differs from the dashboard view
Check the downloaded file itself. Page size, dashboard layout, browser view, or format limitations can change what fits in the rendered output. Adjust the report layout or choose another rendered route, then inspect the new file.
