Scroll through the entire page before taking a full-page screenshot. Lazy-loaded images may not be requested until they approach the viewport, so neither a fired load event nor a full-page capture guarantees that every image is present. After scrolling, give new content time to render, check important images, and inspect the saved capture.
Why a full-page screenshot can still miss images
A full-page screenshot captures the document’s scrollable area; it does not necessarily make the page load every offscreen image first. With native lazy loading, the browser defers fetching an image until it reaches a browser-calculated distance from the viewport. That distance is browser-defined, not a universal fixed number. MDN’s image reference describes loading="lazy" this way.
The page’s load event is not a reliable signal that lazy images are ready. Some may not have been requested yet. Likewise, network idle can be a useful navigation condition without proving that future scroll-triggered requests or application-generated sections have finished. Playwright defines full-page capture as capturing the full scrollable page, not as a guarantee that every site-specific loading behavior has completed.
Manual workflow for a one-off documentation capture
- Set the page state first. Open the page at the viewport size and browser state you need to document. Sign in or handle any consent prompt if the record depends on that state; choose the responsive layout before scrolling.
- Scroll down in overlapping steps. Move through the page by less than a viewport at a time and pause after each move so newly eligible images and content can be requested and rendered. A page with infinite scroll may grow as you go; check for added sections rather than assuming one trip to the bottom is enough.
- Return to the top if needed. Some capture methods start at the current scroll position. Put the page at a known starting point if the tool or workflow requires it.
- Capture the whole page or the required segments. Use the browser’s full-page capture option if available. If the result needs to be assembled from segments, capture the portions required for the record.
- Inspect the output. At readable zoom, check for blank image areas, missing lower sections, duplicated sticky controls, and layout shifts. Retain the viewport, browser state, and capture date when repeatability matters.
Scrolling triggers loading; it does not repair a failed request or guarantee that custom site code has populated an image. If an important image remains absent, inspect its request and image state before simply increasing the wait.

Automate the scroll-and-capture sequence with Playwright
Playwright supports full-page screenshots with fullPage: true. The preparation below scrolls in increments, pauses briefly, and returns to the top before capturing. The 250 ms pause is an example, not a universal readiness guarantee; adjust the wait and add checks for the target site’s content when necessary.
const { chromium } = require('playwright');
(async () => {
const url = 'https://example.com';
const browser = await chromium.launch();
const page = await browser.newPage({ viewport: { width: 1440, height: 900 } });
try {
await page.goto(url, { waitUntil: 'domcontentloaded' });
await page.evaluate(async () => {
const step = Math.max(300, Math.floor(window.innerHeight * 0.8));
for (let y = 0; y < document.documentElement.scrollHeight; y += step) {
window.scrollTo(0, y);
await new Promise(resolve => setTimeout(resolve, 250));
}
window.scrollTo(0, 0);
});
// Add a site-specific readiness check where possible.
await page.screenshot({ path: 'documentation.png', fullPage: true });
} finally {
await browser.close();
}
})();
Install Playwright in your project and ensure its browser is available before running the script. Replace the example URL and choose the viewport that matches the record. On dynamic pages, consider detecting page-height growth and waiting for the specific image elements, sections, or network responses that matter. A fixed pause cannot cover every site’s behavior.

- FAST SPEEDS - Scans color and black and white documents a blazing speed up to 16ppm (1). Color scanning won’t slow you down as the color scan speed is the same as the black and white scan speed.
- ULTRA COMPACT – At less than 1 foot in length and only about 1. 5lbs in weight you can fit this device virtually anywhere (a bag, a purse, even a pocket).
- READY WHENEVER YOU ARE – The DS-640 mobile scanner is powered via an included micro USB 3. 0 cable allowing you to use it even where there is no outlet available. Plug it into you PC or laptop and you are ready to scan.
- WORKS YOUR WAY – Use the Brother free iPrint&Scan desktop app for scanning to multiple “Scan-to” destinations like PC, Network, cloud services, Email and OCR. (2) Supports Windows, Mac and Linux and TWAIN/WIA for PC/ICA for Mac/SANE drivers. (3)
- OPTIMIZE IMAGES AND TEXT – Automatic color detection/adjustment, image rotation (PC only), bleed through prevention/background removal, text enhancement, color drop to enhance scans. Software suite includes document management and OCR software. (4)
For an image element, the browser’s HTMLImageElement.complete property can help determine whether loading has finished, but completion alone does not establish that the image loaded successfully; inspect its rendered result or natural dimensions as appropriate. See MDN’s documentation for complete.
Using Puppeteer
Puppeteer’s Page.screenshot() can save a page capture, and its guide demonstrates navigation using waitUntil: 'networkidle2'. Treat that as a navigation condition, not proof that every offscreen or interaction-triggered image is ready. Scroll through the target page, wait for its relevant content, and inspect the result. See the Puppeteer screenshot guide.

Diagnose missing images instead of changing screenshot dimensions
- Images below the fold are blank: scroll the page in steps before capture. Lazy loading may defer the request until an image approaches the viewport.
- The page’s
loadevent has fired: that event does not certify lazy-image completion. Check the relevant images or trigger their loading by scrolling. - Network idle occurred but content is missing: verify the image state and requests. Network idle does not rule out later requests initiated by scrolling or page scripts.
- An image remains absent after scrolling: inspect the browser’s Network panel for failed or blocked requests and check whether the site uses a deferred source or JavaScript replacement. Chrome DevTools Network documentation explains how to inspect network activity.
- The page uses infinite scroll or virtualization: content may be added as you move down, or only a moving subset may exist in the document at once. Verify that the specific sections you need are present in the captured output; behavior varies by site.
- The layout changes while scrolling: sticky headers, animations, and inserted content can alter the final appearance. Use a site-appropriate capture method and record the browser state and viewport for reproducibility.
Choose the capture method that fits the record
For a one-off support record, manual scrolling and a browser capture are often the simplest route. Use automation when you need to repeat the same capture. Whichever you choose, confirm that scrolling triggered the relevant content, decide whether you need the full scrollable document or selected segments, and inspect missing resources through the page state and network activity.

ScreenshotNeo can capture a page through one API request. Its full-page option loads lazy images. Before capture, it accepts the cookie or consent banner like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each of those steps can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and the response identifies the page verdict and billing status in headers. An MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for AI agents.
For this example, substitute your target URL and API key. The API can return PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF; see the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options and response details.
