With Playwright, capture the full page and temporarily override the specific fixed or sticky header’s CSS so it no longer pins itself to the viewport:

await page.screenshot({
  path: 'page.png',
  fullPage: true,
  style: 'header { position: static !important; }',
});

Replace header with the page’s actual header selector, then inspect the screenshot: changing a fixed element’s positioning can change page spacing. The Playwright Page API documents full-page screenshots and screenshot-time styling.

Why a fixed header can appear more than once

A position: fixed element stays attached to the viewport rather than scrolling with the document. A position: sticky element behaves like a relatively positioned element until it reaches its scroll threshold, then sticks within its containing area. If a capture method scrolls through the page and joins viewport images, a pinned header can consequently appear in multiple component images.

That explanation follows from CSS positioning and stitched-capture mechanics; browser implementations differ. Playwright describes fullPage as capturing the full scrollable page, but does not specify a particular stitching algorithm. See the MDN position reference.

Use Playwright to capture the full page with the header once

  1. Inspect the page and identify the header’s actual CSS selector. Prefer a specific selector such as #site-header over a broad header if the page contains multiple header elements.

  2. Pass fullPage: true and a screenshot-time stylesheet that resets the header’s positioning. This complete example assumes you have already created a Playwright page object and navigated it to the target page:

  3. Open the resulting image and check that the header appears once and that the page below it has no unexpected gap, overlap, or missing content.

Adjust the override if the layout shifts

A fixed element is normally removed from document flow. Resetting it to position: static can put it back into the flow and move content. A sticky element usually remains in normal flow before it sticks, but its exact behavior depends on the page’s layout and styles. There is no universal CSS override that preserves every site’s spacing: tailor the temporary rule to the page and verify the output. If the page needs a particular top offset, adjust the screenshot-time CSS to preserve the intended spacing rather than assuming the positioning reset will do so.

Capture manually in Firefox

Firefox Developer Tools documents full-page screenshots, selected-element screenshots, and a Web Console screenshot helper. To request a full-page screenshot in the console, use:

:screenshot --fullpage

You can also use the full-page capture control in Developer Tools. Firefox’s documented workflow establishes how to take the capture; it does not promise to remove repeated fixed headers, so inspect the result. For an element-only image, Firefox Inspector offers “Screenshot Node.” See Mozilla’s Taking screenshots documentation.

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. Its screenshot-time cleanup can accept cookie or consent banners and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and responses identify the page verdict and billing status in headers. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for AI agents and MCP clients.

One GET request returns an image or PDF. For a quick capture, this cURL example saves the response as WebP:

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

Replace the example URL with the page you want to capture and provide your API key. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request parameters and options.
