There is no confirmed Jio-wide incompatibility with FFmpeg or YouTube Live, so start by finding where the failure occurs: before the encoder connects, during sustained streaming, or after an encoder or network error. Check the YouTube stream key and destination, compare FFmpeg’s status with YouTube Live’s stream health, then test Jio’s outbound connection under the same conditions in which the stream drops.
First identify when the stream disconnects
Note the time of each failure and what FFmpeg and YouTube Live show at that moment. A stream that never starts points first to credentials, endpoint, or protocol configuration. A stream that starts and later drops needs an uplink and stability check. If FFmpeg reports an error, preserve its exact wording for diagnosis, but redact the stream key and other secrets before sharing logs.
- It will not start: refresh the YouTube stream key and verify the current destination and protocol.
- It starts, then stops: compare FFmpeg’s output with YouTube Live’s status and test upload capacity on Jio while streaming.
- It drops only at certain places or times: repeat upload observations there and then compare another connection, if available. This can help isolate a connection-dependent pattern; it does not establish a particular cause in Jio’s network.
YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guidance recommends checking encoder health and outbound internet. It also notes that viewer reports from people sharing one network can point to a local network issue, while reports from viewers on different networks may indicate a broader stream issue. Viewer reports are clues, not proof of what caused the broadcaster’s uplink to fail.
Fix startup, key, and RTMPS errors
Refresh the YouTube stream key
If a third-party encoder cannot start the stream, YouTube recommends obtaining a new stream key in Live Control Room and updating the encoder. Confirm that FFmpeg is using the active key and the current server or ingest URL shown in YouTube’s live setup. Treat the key like a password: do not include it in public command examples, screenshots, logs, or support posts. See YouTube’s troubleshooting steps.

Check the RTMP or RTMPS destination and port
Use the endpoint, protocol, and port currently specified in YouTube Live rather than an old copied command. YouTube describes RTMPS as RTMP sent through an SSL connection. If the URL looks correct but FFmpeg reports an SSL error, the client may be connecting to the wrong port; check the port against YouTube’s RTMPS ingestion guidance.
FFmpeg’s RTMP protocol documentation describes RTMP as multimedia streaming over TCP/IP. It documents TCP keepalive for detecting dead peers. Keepalive is not automatic reconnection and does not guarantee that a dropped stream will recover.

Measure Jio upload while the stream is running
YouTube says the total bitrate of a stream cannot exceed the upload bandwidth available, recommends leaving 20% upload headroom, and warns that a connectivity disruption can break a stream. The 20% figure is YouTube Help’s operational recommendation—not a guarantee or a measured result for your connection. See YouTube’s streaming tips.
- Measure outbound upload on the Jio connection at the location and times when disconnects happen. Repeat the check; an idle speed test cannot show whether an intermittent mobile link stays stable under streaming load.
- Compare the stream’s total outbound bitrate with the upload capacity you observe. Leave YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom rather than setting the stream at the full measured upload rate.
- If capacity varies or there is too little margin, lower the stream bitrate as a diagnostic and see whether the connection remains stable.
- If possible, try the same stream at the same bitrate over Wi-Fi or another connection. Compare sustained upload and variability, whether the stream stays connected, and what YouTube Live reports. This is a comparison, not a basis for naming a universally better Indian carrier or device.
A high result from one test does not rule out later congestion, weak coverage, or interruptions. The useful evidence is repeated outbound performance during the hours and conditions that matter.

Check Jio mobile-data settings and usage
Jio’s Android configuration FAQ lists these basic checks: put the SIM in an LTE-enabled slot, route internet through Jio, select LTE/4G, enable mobile data, and make sure a data limit is not disabling the connection. If roaming, Jio says to enable mobile data while roaming for uninterrupted internet service. For Apple phones, its FAQ says to ensure Mobile Data is on.
These checks confirm configuration only; they do not establish signal quality, upload speed, or whether the local network is congested. Jio identifies video and music streaming and uploading large files as activities that can use substantial data, so check your plan and current balance in Jio’s account tools before a long session. Use a focused troubleshooting sequence
- Encoder will not start: get a fresh key in YouTube Live Control Room, update FFmpeg, and verify the active ingest destination, protocol, and port.
- FFmpeg appears healthy but YouTube reports interruptions: check outbound upload during the stream and preserve bitrate headroom; test a lower bitrate to see whether stability changes.
- Drops correlate with location, time, or movement: repeat the checks under those conditions, confirm LTE/4G and mobile-data settings, and compare another connection if available.
- The issue persists: save timestamps, YouTube Live status or metrics, FFmpeg version/build, and the exact error text with secrets removed. Contact Jio about the uplink, sharing location, time, network mode, and repeated upload observations. For encoder or ingest evidence, use YouTube or FFmpeg support channels.
Jio provides an official slow-mobile-internet support page. If basic settings are correct but upload remains unstable, use Jio’s current support workflow. The available guidance does not establish a particular reset or APN change as a fix for this streaming problem.
