Firefox’s screenshot filename includes a timestamp and page title, but Mozilla’s documentation does not say it contains the source URL. Verify the saved image and preserve the clickable link separately.
Choose what the screenshot needs to show
- Full page: Use this when content below the visible window is part of the evidence.
- Visible area: Use this when only the current viewport matters.
- Region or page part: Use a selected area when the report concerns a specific detail.
A screenshot records the rendered page at the time you captured it. It does not by itself establish that the page’s URL or title will appear visibly in the image.
Capture a webpage in Firefox
- Open the webpage and make sure it is in the state you need to document.
- Right-click an empty part of the page and choose Take Screenshot, or press Ctrl+Shift+S (Windows/Linux) or Command+Shift+S (macOS).
- Choose Save full page to capture the entire page, or Save visible for the current viewport. Use the available region or automatically selected page-part options when you need a smaller area.
- Save the image. Firefox saves it to the default download folder with a filename containing the date, time, and page title.
- Copy the exact URL from the address bar and add it to the report next to the image.
Mozilla documents the filename format as Screenshot year-month-day at hour-minute-second Page title.png. It is useful for identifying the capture, but the documented filename behavior does not include the source URL.
Use Firefox Developer Tools for an element or more capture controls
Firefox Developer Tools can capture a whole page or an individual element. The screenshot toolbar button may need to be enabled in Developer Tools Settings under Available Toolbox Buttons. The Web Console’s :screenshot helper also supports a delay, device-pixel ratio, filename, clipboard behavior, an element selector, and --fullpage for content outside the visible window.

For a repeatable report workflow, choose a descriptive, unique filename for each capture. Firefox’s documentation warns that saving with a filename that already exists overwrites the earlier image.
Record the source and capture context in the report
Keep the screenshot and its identifying details together. A caption or adjacent note can use this format:

Transcribe the title from the page or Firefox-generated filename, and copy the exact URL from the address bar rather than reconstructing it. If the capture was made after scrolling or in a special state, note that so another reader can understand what the image represents. Verify the final artifact and the report link before sharing.

When a print-oriented record is more useful
Microsoft Edge’s print dialog is an option when the report needs paginated output rather than a screenshot image. Under More settings > Headers and footers, Edge can add the current date to the document header and a page number to the footer. The print dialog also offers Background graphics, which Microsoft notes can help when print preview differs from the webpage. On sites where it is available, Immersive Reader provides a clutter-free print workflow.
These are print-output options, not proof that the URL is automatically included. Preserve the source link in the report and check the resulting document.
