Yes—an Intel NUC can send prerecorded video to YouTube Live around the clock, if that particular model can sustain your chosen stream settings and its power and internet connection remain available. The NUC name alone is not enough to establish that it will work: check the exact model, test the actual video and audio, and plan how to monitor and recover the stream. YouTube supports computer-based software encoders for live streaming (YouTube’s encoder setup guidance).
What determines whether your NUC can handle it?
There is no universal minimum Intel NUC specification for a 24/7 prerecorded stream. Requirements depend on the video’s resolution and frame rate, the encoder and codec, and whether the NUC can process the workload continuously. Your upload connection must also sustain the stream bitrate.
- Exact model: Find the product code on the device and consult the matching Intel NUC product specifications. Review the installed processor, memory, operating system, graphics configuration, and cooling rather than relying on the NUC name or size.
- Hardware video acceleration: Intel Quick Sync can accelerate encoding and decoding on supported configurations, but availability depends on processor graphics being enabled. Intel notes that Quick Sync “is only available if the processor’s graphics are enabled”; capabilities also vary by device and configuration (Intel Support).
- Continuous operation: A successful short test does not establish that a particular NUC will run indefinitely without interruption. Test for an extended period with the content and settings you intend to use, and consider cooling, power, application recovery, and remote access.
Check YouTube eligibility and content rights
Before configuring the NUC, make sure the channel can stream live. YouTube says live streaming requires a verified channel with no live-stream restrictions in the preceding 90 days (YouTube live-streaming eligibility).
You are responsible for the rights to the video, audio, and other material in the broadcast. A video being prerecorded or already online does not establish that you have permission to stream it. Review YouTube’s Community Guidelines and applicable copyright requirements before going live.

Configure the encoder for YouTube Live
Use a software encoder on the NUC and connect it to the YouTube Live stream URL and stream key. The exact screens depend on the encoder you choose; YouTube’s encoder guidance explains the platform workflow and supported settings (YouTube Help).
Use supported settings as a starting point
YouTube’s current RTMP/RTMPS guidance lists H.264, HEVC, and AV1 video codecs, frame rates up to 60 fps, constant bitrate (CBR), and a recommended two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds. Match the bitrate to the resolution and frame rate you select and to your available upload capacity. Check YouTube’s live guidance when configuring, since platform settings can change.

Start conservatively if you are unsure how the NUC will perform. Use a resolution and bitrate appropriate to the source video and connection, then test with representative motion and audio. YouTube transcodes live streams for viewers, but that does not remove the need for the encoder and connection to deliver a stable incoming stream.
Keep the stream key private
Copy the stream URL and stream key from YouTube’s live-stream setup into your encoder. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send content to your broadcast. Do not publish it, include it in screenshots, or leave it in a publicly accessible file. YouTube’s encoder workflow creates the live watch page when the encoder begins sending content.

Prepare the NUC and connection for an unattended stream
- Check the exact hardware and configuration. Confirm the NUC’s model code, installed processor and memory, operating system, graphics configuration, and cooling. If you plan to use Quick Sync, verify that processor graphics are enabled and that your encoder can select the intended hardware-encoding option.
- Estimate the connection requirement. Add up the stream’s total bitrate and compare it with the upload capacity available to the NUC. YouTube recommends leaving 20% spare capacity beyond the total stream bitrate; this is guidance for headroom, not a guarantee that a connection will never drop (YouTube network guidance). Account for other users and devices sharing the connection.
- Set up the playlist or loop. Load the prerecorded material into the encoder and confirm that the sequence behaves as expected when it reaches the end. Check that audio remains present and synchronized through transitions and loop points.
- Make power and restart behavior deliberate. Decide what should happen after a power loss, operating-system restart, encoder crash, or network interruption. Automatic restart, remote access, and a resilient network can help reduce hands-on recovery, but they are operational choices—not YouTube guarantees.
- Run a representative test and monitor stream health. Test the actual files, audio, settings, loop behavior, and expected run duration. Confirm that YouTube reports a healthy incoming stream and that viewers can see and hear it. YouTube recommends testing settings and monitoring stream health (YouTube network guidance).
Plan around YouTube’s archive limit
A continuous broadcast is not necessarily one indefinitely archived video. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; its cited documentation does not promise automatic archiving for streams lasting 12 hours or longer (YouTube live-stream archiving guidance). If you need a replay, plan how you will preserve the source recording and verify the current archive behavior before relying on a long broadcast to produce a single replay.
When the NUC is the wrong fit
If testing shows that the NUC cannot sustain your chosen settings, or you do not want to maintain a computer at the streaming location, YouTube’s verified-encoder listing includes software, cloud, and dedicated hardware options. It lists Gyre as a cloud tool for 24/7 prerecorded YouTube streams and AJA HELO Plus PlayToStream as a device that can schedule prerecorded media directly to YouTube Live without a computer. These are examples of available categories, not endorsements or statements about partner terms (YouTube’s verified-encoder listing).
