Brown’s account is meaningful evidence of that role, not a formal declaration of team hierarchy.
What Jaylen Brown said about Maxey
Brown arrived in Philadelphia in a July 6, 2026 trade, according to the 76ers’ announcement. In training camp, he described Maxey as a communicator who was helping new teammates settle in. The Sixer Sense reported Brown saying, “Tyrese has been a great communicator. He’s been leading with his voice early on,” and, “He’s been the most vocal. He’s been the one making sure everybody is accommodated.”
In a contemporaneous October 1 report, Philadelphia Inquirer writer Chris Hine recorded Brown’s more personal description: “He’s been a great host.” Brown added, “He’s trying to make me feel comfortable, even if I don’t need it, but I appreciate it.” Those remarks describe observable camp behavior—communication, vocal direction and welcoming a newcomer—rather than a formal captaincy or a season-long judgment of leadership.
Why the praise carries weight
Brown is not a newcomer looking in from the outside: he joined Philadelphia as a significant roster addition, and his comments concern how Maxey treated him during the transition. That gives the praise practical relevance as the team integrates new personnel. A star teammate’s account of being welcomed and accommodated is useful evidence of informal leadership, although it does not by itself establish who will have the final say in the locker room.

Maxey’s standing also rests on recognized performance. The official 76ers profile lists him as a 2026 NBA All-Star starter and records his first All-NBA selection for the 2025–26 season, alongside prior All-Star and Most Improved Player recognition. The Sixer Sense reported his 2025–26 averages as 28.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, 6.6 assists and 1.9 steals per game. Those figures point to a player carrying major scoring and playmaking responsibility; the award record and the reported statistical line are distinct forms of evidence for his status.
What “face of the franchise” can mean
The phrase is not a single job title. It can refer to the player who sets the team’s public identity, the central option on offense, or the voice teammates follow. The case for Maxey is strongest when these meanings overlap, but the available evidence does not prove that every dimension belongs exclusively to him.

- Offensive responsibility: The reported scoring and assist averages support treating Maxey as a central offensive engine and floor general, though they do not establish the team’s complete tactical hierarchy.
- Current recognition: His All-Star starter status and first All-NBA selection give the case a concrete accolade basis.
- Public identity and tenure: The cited comments and profile do not settle how the franchise should balance Maxey’s identity with other stars, or which player has the greatest long-term claim to represent Philadelphia.
Should Maxey be Philadelphia’s primary voice and option?
Yes—as an argument about who should lead the team’s day-to-day identity, Maxey has a compelling case. Brown’s account supplies firsthand evidence of leadership behavior, while Maxey’s honors and reported production support the idea that he can pair that voice with the responsibility of driving the offense. That combination matters especially during a roster transition: a primary option has to do more than score, and a floor general needs credibility as well as the ball.
But “should” is the key distinction. Brown has not appointed Maxey captain or named him the sole face of the 76ers. Nor do the cited sources settle comparisons with Philadelphia’s other stars. The sound conclusion is narrower and stronger: Brown’s praise reinforces Maxey’s claim to be the franchise’s leading voice and offensive centerpiece, while the team’s full hierarchy remains something to establish on the court.
