For one Malayalam devotional video, add it to an OBS scene as a Media Source and enable Loop. For a playlist of videos, use VLC Video with Loop Playlist. A practical starting point for a landscape 720p, 30 fps stream is H.264, CBR, 3 Mbps video, a 2-second keyframe interval, and AAC stereo audio at 128 kbps and 44.1 kHz. These settings are not specific to Malayalam or devotional content; choose an output your computer and upload connection can sustain.

Loop one video or rotate through a playlist

Repeat a single video with Media Source

  1. In OBS, create or select a scene in the Scenes panel.
  2. In Sources, select + → Media Source. Name it, then select OK.
  3. In the Media Source properties, enable Local File if needed, browse to the video, and select it.
  4. Enable Loop, then select OK. OBS restarts the file when playback finishes.
  5. Check the preview and the audio mixer. Make sure the source is visible and that its audio meter responds during playback.

Cycle through multiple videos with VLC Video

  1. Install VLC before adding the source. OBS requires the VLC installation to match its architecture: 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
  2. In Sources, select + → VLC Video, then open its properties.
  3. Add the local files to the playlist and leave Loop Playlist enabled; OBS documents this property as on by default.
  4. Check the preview and audio mixer, then test a full transition between files.

One Media Source is the simpler setup for a single recording. VLC Video is useful for rotating several recordings, but it adds VLC as a prerequisite. OBS documents that a VLC source stops when it is not visible and restarts when it becomes visible, so check source visibility and scene changes if playback appears to reset.

Set OBS output for a stable YouTube Live stream

In OBS, the relevant controls are in three places: Settings → Video for canvas and output resolution and frame rate, Settings → Output for encoder and bitrate, and Settings → Stream for the service and stream key. YouTube’s encoder recommendations below are platform guidance retrieved in 2026, not a guarantee of performance on a particular computer or network.

Setting Starting value for 720p30 Notes
Canvas and output resolution 1280 × 720 Use landscape orientation for landscape footage. Match output to the source where practical; scaling a lower-resolution video upward does not add detail.
Frame rate 30 fps 60 fps can demand more computer resources than 30 fps. Use a higher rate only if the source and system can handle it.
Encoder H.264 YouTube’s cited live-ingest bitrate guidance is for H.264.
Rate control CBR Constant bitrate is the recommended starting mode for this profile.
Video bitrate 3 Mbps minimum; 8 Mbps recommended YouTube lists these values for 720p30 H.264. The lower value may be more practical on a limited connection; test stream health and upload stability before choosing.
Keyframe interval 2 seconds YouTube recommends 2 seconds and says not to exceed 4 seconds.
Audio codec and bitrate AAC stereo, 128 kbps YouTube lists 44.1 kHz for stereo audio.
Audio sample rate 44.1 kHz Use stereo for a stereo mix.
Ingest protocol RTMPS YouTube recommends RTMPS when available.

Apply the settings and connect your stream

  1. Open Settings → Video. Set the base (canvas) resolution and output (scaled) resolution to 1280 × 720, and set Common FPS Values to 30.
  2. Open Settings → Output. Set the output mode to Advanced if needed to expose encoder options. Under the streaming output, select an H.264 encoder, set rate control to CBR, set the video bitrate to a value YouTube lists for 720p30 (3 Mbps minimum or 8 Mbps recommended), and set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds.
  3. Set audio output to AAC, stereo, 128 kbps, and 44.1 kHz where those controls are available in your OBS version.
  4. Open Settings → Stream, choose YouTube and the available RTMPS option, then enter the stream key from YouTube’s Live Control Room. Treat the key like a password: do not show or share it. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube and update OBS.
  5. Apply the settings, start a test stream, and check YouTube’s Live Control Room stream-health feedback while the video and audio are playing.

OBS labels can vary by version and selected encoder. Verify the actual streaming output settings rather than assuming the recording profile controls the live stream. OBS strongly recommends testing before a first live stream; test with representative audio and motion, not just a paused or silent preview.

Choose resolution and bitrate around your real constraints

The 3 Mbps minimum and 8 Mbps recommended figures are YouTube’s listed H.264 values for 720p30, not upload-speed guarantees. Your upload connection needs enough reliable capacity for the selected stream bitrate; an unstable connection can still fail even when a speed test briefly reports a higher rate. Higher resolution or bitrate is not automatically an improvement if the computer or network cannot sustain it.

  • Start with 720p30 for a conservative profile and test it during the kind of long session you plan to run.
  • If YouTube reports poor stream health or OBS shows dropped frames, lower the video bitrate and test again.
  • If increasing resolution or frame rate, check both computer headroom and sustained upload capacity, then confirm stream health in YouTube’s Live Control Room.
  • A wired Ethernet connection is worth considering if available, but it cannot guarantee a fix for limited bandwidth or an ISP problem.

Check rights before looping devotional recordings

A devotional subject or Malayalam language does not establish permission to livestream a recording. A song, performance, image, or video can have rights separate from its religious content, and the technical encoder settings cannot determine whether a particular item is cleared. Use material you own or have permission to stream, and confirm that the permission covers livestreaming on YouTube. Do not assume that a stream is copyright-safe or monetizable simply because its content is devotional.

Troubleshoot playback and stream health

Symptom Likely cause What to check

The playlist does not repeat Loop Playlist is disabled. Open VLC Video properties and check Loop Playlist.
Playback stops or restarts after a scene change The VLC source may stop when hidden and restart when visible. Check source visibility and scene transitions; confirm the source behavior in the OBS preview.
YouTube reports poor stream health or viewers see dropped frames The upload connection may be unstable or unable to sustain the chosen bitrate. Lower the video bitrate, test the upload again, and review YouTube’s stream-health feedback.
VLC Video is unavailable in OBS VLC may not be installed or may not match OBS architecture. Install VLC; use 64-bit VLC with 64-bit OBS.
The picture is present but audio is missing The source may be muted, routed unexpectedly, or contain no audible audio at that point. Check the OBS audio mixer during playback and verify the file itself before going live.
