Short answer: an Intel N100-class mini PC with a working hardware encoder is a reasonable starting point for a simple OBS scene that loops one prerecorded video to YouTube Live. Look for 16 GB of RAM, an SSD, wired Ethernet, and cooling designed for sustained use—but do not treat the processor name as proof that a particular mini PC can run your stream reliably around the clock. Test the exact device with your video, OBS scene, and YouTube settings before relying on it.

What makes a mini PC suitable for an OBS loop?

A basic video loop is a relatively light OBS workload when it uses one local video source and few effects. The demands rise with high-resolution media, multiple sources, browser overlays, filters, capture devices, or simultaneous recording. OBS cautions that “Having a compatible system does not guarantee that it is capable of streaming or recording using OBS Studio.” Its system requirements also explain that CPU needs vary with the encoder, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity. OBS Studio system requirements

  • Hardware encoding: OBS generally recommends hardware encoders for performance because they move video encoding from the CPU to specialized GPU hardware. Compatible Intel graphics may expose Intel Quick Sync Video (QSV) in OBS on Windows and Linux; drivers and adapter configuration can affect availability. OBS hardware encoding
  • Memory and storage: 16 GB of RAM and an SSD are sensible shortlist criteria for a dedicated streaming machine, but neither guarantees stable streaming. Allow enough storage for the video files and any local recordings.
  • Cooling and connectivity: Prefer a device with cooling appropriate for continuous operation and wired Ethernet for the upload connection. Check the ports you need for audio or capture equipment.
  • Whole-system behavior: A processor’s power rating does not tell you the mini PC’s wall consumption, fan noise, thermal stability, or ability to restart unattended. Those depend on the complete model and its configuration.

Which mini PC should you buy?

Start your search with “Intel N100 mini PC 16GB RAM SSD.” Intel’s N100 processor information and OBS’s QSV documentation make this a plausible candidate class, not a tested product recommendation. Intel’s processor specification does not certify the cooling, BIOS, memory configuration, ports, noise, wall power, or long-run reliability of any particular mini PC. Intel Processor N100 specifications

No named model can be called the best on the available evidence: there is no controlled comparison of candidate mini PCs for wall power or continuous-stream endurance. Before choosing a specific unit, verify the following for its exact configuration:

Set YouTube and OBS for a stable stream

Use YouTube’s encoder recommendations

YouTube’s live encoder guidance lists RTMP or RTMPS, H.264, constant bitrate (CBR), frame rates up to 60 fps, and a recommended two-second keyframe interval (maximum four seconds). It recommends RTMPS to encrypt the connection to YouTube. Its H.264 bitrate recommendations are:

Output YouTube-recommended H.264 bitrate
720p at 30 fps 8 Mbps
720p at 60 fps 8 Mbps
1080p at 30 fps 10 Mbps
1080p at 60 fps 17 Mbps

These are YouTube ingestion recommendations, not guarantees of picture quality or proof that your internet connection can sustain the stream. Match your OBS output to the quality and frame rate you intend to send, and make sure total streaming bitrate fits your available upload bandwidth. YouTube recommends leaving about 20% bandwidth headroom. YouTube live encoder settings · YouTube live streaming tips

Keep and protect the stream key

In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, create or select the stream you intend to use, then copy its stream key into OBS’s streaming configuration. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not be able to broadcast to your channel. Check that OBS is configured for the matching YouTube ingest protocol and that you have selected the intended stream in the Live Control Room.

Test the full setup before relying on it

  1. Prepare the actual workload. Use the video file you intend to loop, the final OBS scene, and the overlays, filters, or audio sources you will keep enabled.
  2. Confirm encoder availability. In OBS, check the output encoder options for a hardware encoder such as QSV. If it is missing, check that the mini PC’s graphics adapter is enabled and the relevant driver is installed; confirm your setup against OBS’s hardware encoding guidance.
  3. Configure YouTube’s stream settings. Use H.264, CBR, a two-second keyframe interval, and a bitrate suited to your chosen resolution and frame rate. Keep the total bitrate within your measured upload capacity, with YouTube’s recommended headroom.
  4. Run a complete test. Start the intended loop and stream configuration for long enough to expose heat, playback, encoding, and network problems. A short successful start is not evidence of continuous reliability.
  5. Check the Live Control Room. Inspect the preview, stream health messages, and audio and video quality. Confirm that the stream is accessible as intended. YouTube recommends testing before going live and monitoring stream health. YouTube live streaming tips
  6. Check the machine after the test. Look for encoder overload, dropped frames, thermal problems, interruptions, and whether the stream reconnects after a brief network or service disruption. Repeat the test after changing the device, driver, file, scene, or output settings.

Copyright, channel rules, and long streams

Using a prerecorded video does not grant permission to stream its contents. Make sure you have the rights to the video, music, and other material in your loop, and review YouTube’s current copyright rules and live-stream requirements for your content. OBS or a mini PC cannot prevent a rights claim or establish that a channel meets YouTube’s monetization rules.

Plan around YouTube’s stated archive guidance: encoder setup help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That guidance does not establish the same archive outcome for streams longer than 12 hours, so do not rely on a longer broadcast being saved as a complete replay. YouTube encoder setup

Common problems and what to check

  • QSV is missing in OBS: Check that the Intel graphics adapter is enabled and its driver is installed and current. Then confirm the OBS encoder options and hardware-encoding guidance for your operating system.
  • OBS reports encoder overload or the stream drops frames: Check whether the selected encoder is hardware or software, whether the mini PC is overheating, and whether your scene includes more sources or effects than the test configuration. Reduce output resolution or frame rate, or simplify the scene, then repeat a full test.
  • The stream disconnects or YouTube reports poor connection: Compare the configured bitrate with the upload capacity available during the stream, retain bandwidth headroom, and test over wired Ethernet. Check YouTube’s stream health messages rather than assuming the advertised connection speed is sustained upload speed.
  • The Live Control Room preview does not show the expected stream: Verify that OBS is using the intended stream key and ingest settings, and that the matching stream is selected in YouTube Studio.
  • The video plays locally but the live output is unstable: Playback alone does not test encoding or network delivery. Run the full scene and stream configuration and monitor both OBS and YouTube stream health.
  • The replay is missing or incomplete: Check the stream duration and YouTube’s archive guidance; do not assume broadcasts over 12 hours will be archived in the same way as shorter streams.

Or let it run in the cloud

If your goal is to keep a prerecorded-video YouTube stream running without dedicating a PC to OBS, StreamNeo is the cloud alternative: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams the uploaded video at its original quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream, and the first day is free with no card. Monthly service is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for YouTube streams from uploaded videos, not camera broadcasts. Visit StreamNeo or start the free first day.
