To run a recurring series, schedule each occurrence separately, review its settings, and choose a caption method for that event. You can use eligible English automatic captions or set up a professional caption feed.
How recurring YouTube Live scheduling works
YouTube’s documented Studio process creates an individual scheduled event. Reusing settings can save time, but it does not itself schedule the next occurrence. Treat each date in your series as a separate event unless you have verified a different current workflow in your account.
Scheduling creates a watch page you can share in advance; viewers can set a reminder or select “Notify me.” See YouTube Help’s encoder scheduling instructions and live stream settings guide.
Schedule each occurrence in YouTube Studio
- Open Live Control Room: In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go Live.
- Create the event: Select Manage > Schedule stream, then choose Create new or Reuse settings for a previous stream.
- Review the event details: Confirm the title, description, privacy, date, and time. Reused settings may include metadata, settings, and the stream key, so check them rather than assuming they are right for the new event.
- Set the caption method: Configure the caption source for this stream, following one of the options below.
- Connect your encoder: Use the stream URL and stream key shown for the event. At broadcast time, start the encoder and check that its preview reaches Live Control Room. Select Go live when the preview and stream are ready.
Choose a caption method
The right option depends on language, eligibility, latency, available captioning equipment or software, and whether you need captions on the archived video. YouTube documents the following approaches in its live caption requirements.

Automatic captions
- In the stream’s setup, open Stream settings.
- Turn on Closed captions and select Automatic captions.
- Check whether the option is available for your channel and event. YouTube describes this feature as English-only, for streams at normal latency when professional captions are unavailable, and says it is rolling out to eligible channels. Confirm the current controls in your account; availability can change.
YouTube says automatic live captions do not remain on the video after the stream ends. The caption process for the video-on-demand archive creates new captions, which may differ from the live captions. If archived captions are essential, verify the resulting video separately. Details are in YouTube’s automatic captioning guidance.
Embedded 608/708 captions
- In the stream’s setup settings, turn on Closed captions.
- Select Embedded 608/708.
- Configure the encoder and caption source to send EIA 608/CEA 708 captions, then check the caption signal in the preview before the event.
This route is only suitable if your production equipment can provide compatible embedded caption data. Although the underlying standard supports multiple tracks, YouTube’s workflow currently supports one caption track.

Supported caption software over HTTP
- Enable captions in the stream setup and copy the signed captions ingestion URL.
- Give that URL to the captioner or compatible software and confirm the caption feed is connected to the correct stream entry point.
- Use an accurate system clock. YouTube’s event workflow documents adding a 30- or 60-second broadcast delay; account for that delay in your event timing and confirm the current setup guidance.
YouTube lists Total Eclipse/AccuCap, Case CATalyst BCS, CaptionMaker, and StreamText.Net in its guidance. Check YouTube’s current page and each provider’s documentation for supported versions and compatibility before choosing a tool. A listed workflow is not a comparative test or a guarantee that a particular setup fits your production.
Prepare a recurring series without carrying forward mistakes
Reusing settings is convenient, but it can also carry forward details that do not belong to the next event. Make a separate review for every date, especially when a prior event used a different caption source or encoder configuration.

- Confirm the new event’s title, description, privacy, date, and start time.
- Verify the stream key and encoder configuration. Confirm auto-start and auto-stop settings if you use them.
- Check that the selected caption source matches the event’s actual caption feed or encoder output.
- Test with representative speech, audio, and movement; make sure captions appear in the Live Control Room preview.
- Share the scheduled watch page so viewers can find the event and set reminders.
Preflight timing and stream checks
YouTube recommends setting up an encoder event at least two hours beforehand and starting encoders at least 15 minutes before the event. Use that time to check the preview and stream health, confirm captions are arriving, and resolve connection or configuration problems before selecting Go live. See YouTube’s streaming tips.

The next event is not scheduled
Reusing settings copies details from a previous stream; it does not establish automatic recurrence in YouTube’s documented scheduling workflow. Open YouTube Studio > Create > Go Live > Manage > Schedule stream and create a separate event for the next date.

Automatic captions are unavailable
Automatic live captions are not documented as available for every channel or stream. YouTube describes them as English-only, at normal latency, when professional captions are unavailable, and says the feature is rolling out. Check the current stream settings; if the option is not available or does not meet your needs, configure embedded captions or supported caption software instead.
Captions do not appear in the preview
Check that captions are enabled for the correct event and that the selected source matches what the encoder or caption software sends. For embedded captions, verify compatible EIA 608/CEA 708 output. For HTTP delivery, verify the signed URL, feed, and stream entry point. Test before the scheduled start rather than assuming a reused caption setting is still valid.

Live captions are missing from the archive
YouTube says automatic live captions do not remain on the video after the stream ends; its VOD process creates new captions that may differ. Check the archived video’s captions after processing and do not treat the live caption display as confirmation that identical captions will persist.
The encoder preview is not ready
Start the encoder early enough to inspect the preview and stream health. Confirm it is using the event’s stream URL and key, then review the encoder setup and YouTube’s encoder instructions before going live.
