A screenshot does not create a price history or prove the final amount paid. Product Research covers up to three years of sales data, while eBay’s ordinary sold/completed search covers sold listings from the previous 90 days. eBay explains both options in its Product Research help page.
Screenshot an eBay listing and preserve its context
Capture enough of the page to identify the item and interpret its displayed price later. Include the listing title, item condition and variant, seller or listing details, price, shipping charge, and whether the listing is active or ended. If those details do not fit on one screen, save multiple screenshots rather than cropping away important context.
On an iPhone
- Open the eBay listing and position the screen so the identifying details and price are visible.
- On an iPhone with Face ID, press and quickly release the Side button and Volume Up button together.
- On an iPhone with a Home button, press the model-appropriate Side or Top button and the Home button together, then quickly release.
- Review the capture. Save the original, and make a separate marked-up copy if you need to add notes or call attention to a detail.
- Find saved screenshots in Photos under Collections > Media Types > Screenshots. The thumbnail and editing controls can vary by iOS version and model; Apple documents the button combinations and current behavior at Take a screenshot.
For another phone or a computer, use that device’s built-in screenshot function. Regardless of device, avoid treating a cropped image of the price alone as a complete record: the listing identity, condition, shipping, and status help explain what the figure represents.
Give captures a useful record name
Use a consistent filename or add a row to your own notes or spreadsheet. Record the capture date, item title, item ID or listing URL, condition and variant, displayed price, shipping, and whether the listing was active or ended. This is a manual recordkeeping method, not an eBay export feature.

Find what an eBay item actually sold for
Use Product Research for a longer history
Product Research provides sales data across the last three years, according to eBay’s help documentation; that page does not state a publication year. It also includes actual sale prices when a seller accepted a Best Offer, which can differ from the original displayed asking price. Search for the specific item and inspect the actual sold price, shipping, date range, and available summary metrics rather than using an active listing’s ask as evidence of a completed sale.
Make the query as specific as practical. Match the model or product identifier, exact variant, condition, marketplace, and category; adjust the date range and other available attributes. A used example, a different size or edition, and a refurbished unit may not be useful comparisons even if their titles look similar.

When comparing results, account for sale date, auction versus fixed-price format, item price plus shipping, and the number of sales and sellers represented in any summary. These are interpretation checks: filters and metrics available can vary by interface and query.
Use sold/completed search for a quick recent check
For a fast comparison, search eBay for the item and apply the sold/completed filters. eBay says ordinary completed listings show sold listings that ended in the previous 90 days. This is a shorter window than Product Research, so it is not a substitute when you need a multi-year view.

Access Product Research in the app or Seller Hub
eBay documents Product Research access in Seller Hub through Selling > Product Research, and says it is also available in the eBay app. Its Seller Center guidance says mobile access requires at least one active listing or a listing sold within the previous 90 days. That access condition is separate from the 90-day window for ordinary completed-listing searches. Navigation, eligibility, and which metrics appear on mobile can change, so check the current app interface and your account’s eligibility. See eBay Seller Center’s tools guidance.
Track changes without mistaking alerts for price history
Use Watchlist for listings you are following
Watchlist helps you keep tabs on active and ended listings and can alert you when an item is ending soon. It is not a permanent historical price chart: eBay says an ended item that is not relisted within 60 days is removed from Watchlist. See eBay’s Watchlist help.

Use saved searches for new matches
Saved searches can alert you when newly listed items match your search. They are useful for spotting new supply, but they do not maintain a record of past sold prices. eBay describes saved-search features in Using My eBay.
Keep your own comparison log
For a longer-running record, combine dated screenshots of listings you want to document with a separate log of comparable sold results from Product Research. Keep the capture date distinct from the sale date, and note whether a value is an asking price or an actual sold price. A screenshot preserves the page presentation you saw; it cannot establish that the displayed amount became the final accepted payment or that the item was fulfilled.

- The iPhone button combination does not work: Use the combination for your model—Side plus Volume Up on Face ID models, or Side/Top plus Home on models with Home—and press and release quickly. The post-capture interface depends on iOS version.
- Product Research is missing from the app: Check whether the account meets eBay’s stated mobile eligibility condition: an active listing or a listing sold within the previous 90 days. Confirm the current app navigation because eBay may change it.
- The sold amount seems lower than the listing price: A Best Offer may have been accepted. Product Research includes actual sale prices for accepted Best Offers; do not assume the original asking price was paid.
- There are too few comparable results: Check that identifiers, variant, condition, marketplace, and category match, and adjust the date range. Do not combine unlike items just to increase the result count.
- An ended listing disappeared from Watchlist: eBay removes an ended item if it has not been relisted within 60 days. Keep a separate record for anything you need to compare later.
- A screenshot appears to conflict with a sold result: Check whether the image captured an active asking price, whether shipping is included in the comparison, and whether the screenshot and sale refer to the same condition and variant. The screenshot records what was visible, not the eventual transaction or fulfillment.
