To make a clear portfolio thumbnail, capture the part of the finished website that best represents its design, crop it for the portfolio card, and check the exported image at the card’s actual display size. For Marathi pages, inspect the Devanagari text in the screenshot—not just in the browser—to catch missing glyphs, unexpected font fallback, clipped vowel marks, or text that becomes too small after resizing.
Choose what the thumbnail should show
A thumbnail is a small preview, not necessarily a miniature of the entire site. Pick a capture scope based on the project and how the portfolio will display it:

Playwright supports viewport, element, and full-page screenshots. See its screenshot documentation. For a long page, consider using a concise viewport thumbnail for the main portfolio grid and a separate full-page image in the project detail view.
Create a repeatable browser capture
Use the same browser, viewport, and general capture state across projects when visual consistency matters. Rendering can vary with the browser, operating system, fonts, hardware, and other environment factors; a consistent setup makes portfolio previews easier to compare. Avoid capturing while a hover effect, animation, cookie notice, chat widget, or other transient overlay is covering the design.

- Open the finished page in the browser and wait for the page content and fonts to render.
- Set the browser viewport to the intended design presentation and confirm the page has settled into its normal state.
- Capture the viewport, a representative element, or the full page according to the image’s purpose.
- Export in a format accepted by your portfolio platform, then inspect the image at the size visitors will actually see.
Playwright documents PNG, JPEG, and WebP output, along with CSS-pixel and device-pixel scaling. Those are available choices, not a universal recommendation: use the format and scale your destination supports, and judge the resized result. See Playwright’s screenshot guide.
Verify Marathi text and font rendering
A page can look correct in the browser but reveal typography problems in an exported or downscaled image. Check the screenshot for missing Devanagari glyphs, unexpected fallback to another font, clipped vowel marks, and text that becomes too small to read in the card.

- Use a font source with the required Devanagari glyph coverage and retain a suitable generic fallback family in the CSS font stack.
- Wait for web fonts to finish loading before capturing; otherwise, the browser may render with a fallback font in the screenshot.
- Inspect actual Marathi text in the rendered page and exported file. A Latin sample does not establish that the font renders Marathi correctly.
- Review the image after reducing it to its real card dimensions, where clipping and legibility issues are easier to spot.
Google’s documentation covers loading fonts through a stylesheet and applying them in CSS, including fallback families, but it does not certify any specific font family’s Marathi coverage. Crop and present a consistent portfolio set
Crop each image to the area that best represents the project, and apply a consistent presentation treatment across the portfolio. The right crop depends on the design and the destination’s card shape; there is no single thumbnail dimension established for every portfolio platform. Follow the destination’s current image requirements, then check the crop at the final display size. Google’s style guidance recommends cropping images to relevant information and maintaining consistency: Diagrams, figures, and other images.

Where available, pair the preview with the project name, your role, and a link to the live website or a case study. That context helps visitors understand what the image represents without relying on tiny text inside the thumbnail.
