On Hostinger, the image shown when someone shares your portfolio link is a link preview image or Social image. You upload the image yourself; the documented Hostinger steps do not automatically create a screenshot thumbnail of your live portfolio. The exact setting depends on whether you use Hostinger Website Builder or Hostinger AI Builder in manual mode.
Choose what kind of thumbnail you need
If you want a branded image to appear in a link card when someone shares your portfolio URL, set a link preview image in your builder. Hostinger supports a site-wide default and, in the documented builder workflows, an image for an individual page. Hostinger calls the page-specific setting Social image. If instead you want a miniature screenshot of each live portfolio page, the reviewed Hostinger instructions do not document automatic screenshot-to-thumbnail generation. Create or capture the image separately, then upload it into the relevant page or portfolio layout where images are accepted. That is a workaround, not a built-in thumbnail-generation step.
Prepare the image
- Use 1200×630 px, Hostinger’s recommended link-preview image dimensions. This is vendor guidance, not a guarantee that every social platform will show the whole image uncropped.
- Choose artwork that clearly represents the portfolio or the particular project page. Keep the key subject and any text near the center as a practical precaution against cropping or scaling.
- For AI Builder manual mode, Hostinger’s troubleshooting guidance lists PNG, JPG, and JPEG and a maximum file size of 15 MB. Those constraints are documented for that workflow; do not assume they apply universally to every Hostinger product.

Add a thumbnail in Hostinger Website Builder
Set a default image for the portfolio
- Prepare the image you want used when visitors share your website.
- In Website Builder, open the general website settings and find the link preview image setting.
- Select Add image or Replace image, then upload the prepared image.
- Save your changes and update the website. The change is not live until the site is updated.

Set a different image for one page
- Open Pages and navigation.
- Open the settings for the page you want to customize.
- Choose Social image and upload the page-specific image.
- Save and update the website.

After updating the site, share the URL in the service where you want the preview to appear. A preview can continue showing an earlier image because sharing platforms may save previously fetched title, description, and image data. Hostinger also warns that an updated image may take several hours to appear.
- Confirm you updated the website after saving the image.
- Check that the image meets the applicable size and format guidance.
- Avoid editing the site in multiple builder tabs or on multiple devices simultaneously.
- If the sharing service offers a cache-refresh tool, request a fresh fetch and then share the URL again. Hostinger’s link-preview guidance and preview troubleshooting.
