To show visual previews beside links in a Blogger blogroll, start with Blogger’s built-in Blog List widget and inspect the display options available in your account and theme. If it cannot show the card layout you want, theme customization may be needed. The controls are product-wide; the documentation reviewed does not establish a special India-only setting.
This guide is about cards shown on your own Blogger site. A preview that appears when someone shares your Blogger page on a social platform is a different feature.
Start with Blogger’s built-in Blog List widget
Blogger’s documented building block for a blogroll is the Blog List widget. Google’s help describes a widget as “a page element such as a page, a blogroll, or anything else you can add from the ‘Page Elements’ tab.” The wording reflects an older interface; use the labels visible in your Blogger account rather than assuming every dashboard uses that exact path. See Blogger Help on page elements.
- Open your Blogger blog’s layout editor and locate the area where you want the blogroll.
- Add or open the built-in Blog List/Blogroll widget, if it is available in your layout.
- Inspect the widget’s actual settings for options to show thumbnails or other site details. Available options can depend on the account interface and theme; a universal current “show preview cards” switch is not established.
- Save the layout and view the published page to check how the widget renders.
A first-party Blogger Developers post from 2008 announced that Blog Lists could display a recent thumbnail from Blogger and other Media RSS-enabled feeds. That historical announcement is a reason to check your widget’s options, not proof that the same option remains available or works identically today: Blogger Developers: Blog List thumbnails.

Choose between the widget and custom styling
If the built-in widget gives you the result you need, it is generally the simplest route. If it produces only a text list or does not offer enough control, a more card-like presentation may require theme-level customization. Blogger layouts use sections and widgets, and themes can be customized; exact markup and placement vary by theme. Review Blogger’s layout and theme guidance before editing.
| Consideration | Built-in Blog List | Theme-level styling |
|---|---|---|
| Setup | Usually the simpler starting point; use the controls actually shown in the widget. | Requires adapting the theme’s layout or styles and checking the result. |
| Control over image, title, and description | Limited to the widget’s available options and the data it can use. | Potentially greater, but depends on the theme and the content or data available. |
| External site image or feed | A thumbnail may depend on a feed or image the linked site exposes in a usable form. | Still depends on how the image or other content is supplied; styling alone cannot guarantee it exists. |
| Theme and mobile fit | Rendering depends on the active theme. | Must be adapted and checked against the theme, including a narrow viewport. |
| Ongoing maintenance | Fewer custom styles to maintain, though appearance can change with the theme. | Custom code may need attention when the theme or Blogger layout changes. |
Customize cards carefully if the widget is not enough
There is no single verified snippet that creates universal preview cards in every current Blogger theme. Treat any HTML or CSS pattern as something to adapt to your theme, not as a paste-in guarantee. Back up your theme before editing, and use the theme’s existing section and widget structure rather than assuming a particular template’s markup.
- Give each link a useful site name and, where available, a short description that helps visitors decide whether to follow it.
- If a card includes an image, provide meaningful alt text describing its useful content or purpose. Blogger’s image guidance covers image descriptions and titles: Blogger Help on images.
- Do not assume every linked website supplies a feed thumbnail or image the widget can use. If no suitable image is exposed, a thumbnail may not appear.
- After saving, inspect the page on desktop and at a narrow/mobile width. Check that images, text, and links remain readable and do not crowd or overflow the layout.
Keep blogroll cards separate from social-sharing previews
A card displayed beside a link on your Blogger site is not the same as a preview generated when someone shares your Blogger URL on WhatsApp, X, Facebook, or another service. Blogger documents share buttons and feeds, but those features do not establish that social metadata creates cards inside a Blog List.

If you meant the preview of your own Blogger page when it is shared elsewhere, that is a separate metadata and platform-caching question. A 2023 Blogger Help Community response discusses Open Graph and Twitter card metadata in that external-sharing context; it is community guidance, not a guarantee about blogroll rendering: Blogger Help Community discussion about sharing previews. Do not treat its image-size suggestion as an official Blogger requirement.
Do you need a custom domain?
No custom domain requirement for blogroll thumbnails or cards is established by the Blogger documentation reviewed. Blogger documents custom domains as a separate capability, not as a prerequisite for this task; see Blogger Help on custom domains.

If you need a screenshot of a page to use as a manually selected card image, you can request one from ScreenshotNeo’s website screenshot API. A screenshot is an image asset, not an automatic Blogger blogroll integration: you would still need to add the image to your layout or theme. Example URL and API details are in the ScreenshotNeo documentation.

ScreenshotNeo removes cookie banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before the shot; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed. Its MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card, and paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Learn about ScreenshotNeo or sign up for 1,000 free screenshots a month, with no card.

Troubleshooting
The widget shows text but no thumbnail
Check whether the widget offers a thumbnail option in your account, then confirm the linked site exposes an image or feed thumbnail the widget can use. The 2008 announcement does not confirm present-day availability across accounts or themes.
The card looks different from the editor
Inspect the published page with the active theme. Layout sections, widget styles, and theme rules affect the rendered result; a custom style may need adjustment to fit that theme.
Rank #4
The card is cramped or overflows on a phone
Check the live layout at narrow/mobile width. Adjust the theme-specific styling and image presentation, then review both narrow and desktop views again.
A shared Blogger link has no social preview
This concerns metadata and the sharing platform’s preview behavior, not the on-site Blog List widget. Check the page’s sharing metadata and the platform’s current preview or cache behavior; do not expect a blogroll thumbnail setting to fix it.
