To preview a Squarespace portfolio, save your changes and open the site’s full-screen preview, then check the relevant device view and test the visitor-facing page in a private browser window. To show someone else an unpublished page, use its draft Preview URL and password where available; for a whole private or trial site, use site-wide password protection. Share a visitor URL—not a logged-in address containing /config.

Preview your portfolio as a visitor

The preview controls depend on whether your site uses Squarespace 7.1 or 7.0. Save your edits first, then follow the matching path. Squarespace’s instructions below are from its Help Center guide, last updated April 13, 2026: Preview pages on your site.

Squarespace 7.1

  1. Save your changes and exit the page editor.
  2. Select the preview icon in the upper-right corner.
  3. Use the available device views to inspect how the design adapts.

In 7.1, animations play in preview. Closing the editor also hides the editing toolbar, making it easier to interact with the page as a visitor would.

Squarespace 7.0

  1. Save your changes and return to the main menu.
  2. Hover at the top-left of the site preview.
  3. Select the arrow to enter full preview.

Check the mobile and visitor experience

Use device view to review responsive layouts, and use the Squarespace app if you want to check the site on a mobile device. For a closer visitor-facing check, open the intended page in an incognito or private browser window. Squarespace notes this can help reveal embedded code that may not display while you are logged in. You can zoom out to inspect a wider-screen layout, but restore browser zoom to 100% before editing.

Share one unpublished portfolio page

If your site has page drafts, you can share an unpublished page without giving the reviewer editing access. Draft availability and sharing permissions depend on your role and the site’s plan. Squarespace’s instructions are in Drafting pages (Premium & Enterprise).

  1. Open the page draft’s settings.
  2. Enable draft sharing and create a password.
  3. Copy the Preview URL and send it to the reviewer along with the password.

Website managers and administrators can configure sharing permissions. Eligible editors can share a URL with other website contributors; a manager or administrator may need to adjust permissions for an outside reviewer. After review, publishing the draft can replace the live page, and Squarespace warns that this publish-and-replace operation cannot be reverted to the original page through that workflow. If the draft contains a form block, reconnect its storage before publishing if the form needs to work.

Share a published or Not linked page

For a page visitors can already access, copy its visitor-facing URL. To share a page in the Not linked section, open it while logged in, enter full preview, and copy the address-bar URL. A Not linked page is omitted from navigation; that alone does not password-protect it.

Do not send a logged-in editing address containing /config: recipients may be taken to a login screen. If you copy a built-in Squarespace domain while the site also has a custom domain, replace it with the custom domain before sending. See Squarespace’s guide to sharing URLs from your site, last updated April 11, 2025.

Portfolio pages are available in Squarespace 7.1. If a portfolio page is the homepage, its sub-page URLs can omit the portfolio page slug. Test the final link in a private window before sharing it. Squarespace’s portfolio-site guide covers portfolio page structure.

Share a whole trial or private site

Trial sites are private by default. To let someone browse the entire site without giving them editing access, set a site-wide password and share the built-in domain without /config. Squarespace says visitors can use the password to view the site as ordinary visitors, including on mobile, while the password-protected trial remains hidden from search engines. Follow its trial-site sharing instructions, last updated February 25, 2026.

Site Availability can be set to public, password-protected, or hidden. Publishing publicly requires a paid subscription; a public site can be reached through connected domains and may be indexed by search engines. A site-wide password is shared by visitors, not unique to each reviewer. Choose contributor permissions instead when a person needs individual access or editing ability. See Publish or hide your site, last updated September 10, 2026.

ScreenshotNeo can return a screenshot or PDF of a URL with one GET request. Its capture flow accepts cookie or consent banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers report the page verdict and billing status. An MCP server offers take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for AI agents and other MCP clients. See ScreenshotNeo and its API documentation.

For example, this cURL request saves a screenshot of the specified page as WebP:

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

Replace the example URL with the portfolio page’s URL and provide your API key. ScreenshotNeo offers 1,000 screenshots per month free with no card, and paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Sign up for free.

Troubleshoot a preview that does not work

  • The recipient sees a Squarespace login screen: You may have copied a logged-in /config address. Copy the visitor URL or use full preview for a Not linked page.
  • An outside reviewer cannot open a draft: Check that draft sharing is enabled and ask a manager or administrator to review the sharing permissions. Send the password with the Preview URL when prompted.
  • A page appears in the editor but not like a visitor sees it: Exit the editor, use full preview, then test in a private window. This can expose differences involving embedded code.
  • A portfolio sub-page link is wrong: If the portfolio is the homepage, its sub-page URL may omit the portfolio slug. Open the final URL in a private window before sending it.
  • A draft form is not ready after publishing: Reconnect the form block’s storage on the draft before publishing if the form must collect submissions.
  • A private-site password does not provide individual access: The site-wide password is shared. Use contributor permissions when access should be assigned to an individual or include editing rights.
