Can a nonstop prerecorded YouTube livestream earn monetization? Possibly, but the live format does not exempt it from YouTube’s channel monetization policies, and YouTube’s published guidance does not give a specific yes-or-no ruling for this exact format. Eligibility depends on the originality, meaningful value and authenticity of the content and the channel as a whole. A copyright claim—or the absence of one—does not decide reused-content eligibility.
How the reused-content policy applies to livestreams
YouTube says its monetization-policy use of “video” includes live streaming. The policies apply wherever videos are viewed, so prerecorded material broadcast as a continuous livestream remains within their scope. YouTube’s guidance does not expressly classify every nonstop prerecorded livestream as allowed or prohibited; the channel and its content are assessed against the general standards. Three separate questions: reused content, inauthentic content and copyright
Reused content: does the creator add meaningful value?
YouTube describes reused content as material repurposed from YouTube or another online source without significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value. Transforming material in a meaningful way may satisfy this policy, but other rules—including copyright—still apply. YouTube gives potentially acceptable examples such as clips used for critical review, reaction videos with commentary, edited footage with a storyline and commentary, and footage substantively edited to make it unique to the channel. Inauthentic content: is the output repetitive or mass-produced?
As of July 15, 2025, YouTube uses “inauthentic content” for content previously described as repetitious content. The policy says content should not be generic, mass-produced or repetitive and should offer creative, educational or other viewer value. Examples include similar videos with minimal variation or value, templated storylines with the same outcome, and slideshows or scrolling text with little narrative or educational value. Copyright: do you have the rights to use the material?
Copyright enforcement is separate from reused-content review. Permission from the original creator, reliance on fair use, or the absence of a copyright claim does not by itself establish monetization eligibility under the reused-content policy. YouTube expressly notes that the policy applies even when the creator has permission. A video can therefore avoid a copyright claim and still raise a reused-content concern; conversely, passing the reused-content test does not settle copyright questions. What YouTube may review across your channel
Review is not limited to the single livestream. YouTube says reviewers may consider videos, titles, descriptions and the channel description. They may focus on the channel’s main theme, most-viewed and newest videos, the share of watch time accounted for by particular videos, metadata and the About section. - Is the source material your own, or do you have the necessary rights to use it?
- Does the stream repeat the same segment with little meaningful variation?
- Does it add original commentary, information, editing or entertainment value?
- Can a reviewer understand what you created, selected or contributed?
- Does the channel as a whole offer distinct, viewer-serving substance rather than largely repeating material available elsewhere?
How looping your own video differs from compiling other people’s material
Looping your own recording does not automatically establish a reused-content violation: the central issue under that policy is whether repurposed material has meaningful original contribution or value. But ownership alone does not guarantee monetization. A highly repetitive or mass-produced presentation may raise the separate inauthentic-content issue, and reviewers can assess the broader channel. YouTube’s published guidance does not state a special outcome for an individual’s nonstop loop.
By contrast, YouTube lists favorite-show clips compiled with little or no narrative, social-media clip compilations, collections of songs from different artists—even with permission—uploads of material posted many times by other creators, and online material copied without substantial modification as examples that may violate reused-content rules. What to do before applying for or relying on monetization
- Check each source and the rights behind it. Keep track of what you made and what came from another creator or online source. Rights clearance matters for copyright, but does not replace the reused-content assessment.
- Make your contribution clear in the actual viewing experience. Where appropriate, add substantive original commentary, explanation, editing, context or other educational or entertainment value. A title or description alone cannot turn copied material into meaningfully transformed content.
- Review the channel, not only the live feed. Look at the main theme, newest and most-viewed videos, watch-time-heavy content, titles, descriptions and About section. Ask whether those elements make your authorship and the channel’s distinct value understandable.
- Check for repetition and scale. Consider whether the same segments, template or outcome dominate with little variation or viewer value. This can raise an inauthentic-content concern distinct from whether the source material is reused.
- Review the current policy and monetization setup. Read YouTube’s channel monetization policies and confirm the Watch Page Monetization Module requirements for the relevant live or long-form revenue. Meeting a format or module requirement does not ensure that the channel passes policy review.
