Use HandBrake’s queue to compress multiple Hindi MP4 files on a Windows PC: choose an MP4 preset, verify the Hindi audio or subtitle tracks, add the files to the queue, and encode. Start with a short test file and check playback before processing the full batch. Keep the originals until you have confirmed the outputs work in your OBS workflow.
Before you batch compress
“Hindi” does not tell you where the language appears in a file. It may be spoken audio, a selectable subtitle track, or text burned into the picture. Inspect a representative video first so the output retains what you need.
- Keep a backup of the originals until the batch is checked.
- Note the source resolution and frame rate so you do not choose an output preset that exceeds what the source or OBS workflow needs.
- Check the available audio and subtitle tracks, and identify the Hindi track by listening or viewing it—not by assuming a track number.
Batch compress MP4 files with HandBrake
- Open a representative file. In HandBrake, open one of the videos and inspect its picture, frame rate, audio tracks, and subtitle tracks. If your files come from different sources, inspect more than one because their track layouts may differ.
- Choose an MP4 preset. For broad playback compatibility, start with an H.264 MP4 preset such as Very Fast 1080p30. HandBrake also offers H.265/HEVC MP4 presets, but use one only if the devices and software that will play the files support HEVC. A preset is a starting point, not proof that its resolution and frame-rate assumptions match your source.
- Review the Hindi tracks. Check the audio and subtitle selections before encoding. Preserve or select the intended Hindi audio or subtitle track. If Hindi text is burned into the picture, it is part of the video image and cannot be selected as a separate subtitle track.
- Set the destination and output name. Choose a destination folder and a filename that will not overwrite your source. Check the destination and output names for every queued file.
- Add files to the queue. Add the remaining MP4 files with the intended settings. Before starting, review the queue and confirm that the files and destinations are correct. Do not assume that the same audio or subtitle track index identifies Hindi in every file.
- Run the queue. Start the batch and let HandBrake finish processing. For a repeatable command-line workflow, HandBrake can import a queue file created in its graphical interface; consult the current HandBrake CLI documentation for the applicable command and options.
- Check an output before committing the library. Play at least one encoded file. Confirm that the picture is acceptable, the audio is in sync, and the intended Hindi audio or subtitles are present. If files vary, check an output from each distinct source or track layout before continuing with a large batch.
H.264 or H.265: which MP4 preset should you use?

HandBrake’s official preset list includes H.264 MP4 options such as Very Fast 1080p30 as well as H.265/HEVC MP4 options. The resulting size and quality depend on the source and chosen settings, so compare a short output with its original rather than expecting a guaranteed compression ratio. HandBrake’s official presets documentation describes the available preset families.
Keep file compression separate from OBS encoder settings
HandBrake is encoding files for storage or later playback; OBS encoder settings govern recording or live capture. They are related workflows, but OBS recording recommendations are not universal HandBrake batch-compression settings.

For OBS recording with NVENC, the OBS Advanced Recording Settings guide lists Constant QP 16–23, keyframe interval 2, preset P5, High Quality tuning, two-pass quarter-resolution mode, High profile, Look-ahead off, adaptive quantization on, and two B-frames. OBS notes that lower CQ values mean higher quality and larger files. Treat these as OBS recording guidance, not as settings to copy wholesale into HandBrake. NVIDIA’s FFmpeg guidance distinguishes file-to-file transcoding examples from real-time capture and live streaming. That distinction is useful here: configure HandBrake for the compressed files you need, and configure OBS separately for its recording or streaming job. Optional: use NVIDIA hardware encoding
Hardware encoding is optional; it is not a requirement for batching files. HandBrake’s current NVENC documentation lists these supported configurations: GeForce RTX Turing (2060+) or newer, NVIDIA driver 610.0 or later, and Windows 10 or later. HandBrake says NVENC may work on older configurations, but they are not officially supported. Check the current documentation because supported hardware and driver requirements can change. Read HandBrake’s NVENC documentation.
NVENC does not mean the CPU is idle. HandBrake says CPU work may still be needed for video decoding, filters, audio encoding, subtitle handling, synchronization, and muxing. High CPU use during a hardware encode can therefore be normal.

Common problems and fixes

| The output has the wrong language or no Hindi audio. | Reopen the output’s audio track list and compare it with the source. Select the intended Hindi track explicitly; do not rely on a track number shared across files. |
| Hindi subtitles are missing. | Check whether the source has a selectable subtitle track and whether it was included in the encode. If the Hindi text is burned into the image, it is not a separate track to select. |
| Files in the same batch have inconsistent tracks. | Inspect each distinct source layout and adjust track selection where needed. A single track index may refer to different languages in different files. |
| The output is larger than expected or looks worse. | Compare a short encode with its source and reassess the preset and quality settings. There is no guaranteed file-size saving; results vary with source characteristics and settings. |
| Hardware encoding is unavailable. | Check the GPU, Windows version, and NVIDIA driver against HandBrake’s documented NVENC requirements. You can still use HandBrake without hardware acceleration. |
| CPU use remains high during NVENC encoding. | This can be expected: decoding, filters, audio and subtitle processing, synchronization, and muxing may still use the CPU. |
