Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallTo save one webpage as a landscape PDF, open the browser’s print dialog, choose Landscape for page orientation, then select Save as PDF (or the equivalent destination). If you control the page, use CSS @page and @media print; for repeatable automated output, Playwright’s page.pdf() accepts a landscape option.
Choose the right method
- One-off conversion: Use the browser’s print dialog. This works when you do not control the webpage.
- A webpage you maintain: Set the printed page orientation and margins in CSS, then adjust or hide elements in print styles.
- Automated conversion: Use Playwright’s PDF API to set orientation, paper format, margins, and other output options in code.
Save a webpage as a landscape PDF in a browser
- Open the webpage you want to convert.
- Open the browser’s print dialog, using its menu or the print shortcut.
- Set the page orientation to Landscape.
- Choose Save as PDF or the equivalent PDF destination, then save the file.
Check the preview before saving: landscape changes the page orientation, but it does not automatically make an unusually wide layout fit at a readable size. Paper format, margins, and scaling also affect the result.
Set landscape orientation with CSS
If you control the webpage, the @page at-rule can specify printed page dimensions, orientation, and margins. MDN describes @page as an at-rule used to modify aspects of printed pages (MDN: @page CSS at-rule).
@page {
size: landscape;
margin: 2cm;
}
@media print {
.navigation,
.screen-only-control {
display: none;
}
}The @page rule sets landscape orientation and a 2 cm margin. The print media rule hides elements that are useful on screen but not on paper. Add other print-specific layout adjustments inside @media print as needed. See MDN’s guide to printing with CSS.

Generate a landscape PDF with Playwright
Playwright’s page.pdf() renders the page using print CSS media. Set landscape: true to request landscape output. The following runnable Node.js example opens a URL and writes a PDF:
const { chromium } = require('playwright');
(async () => {
const browser = await chromium.launch();
const page = await browser.newPage();
await page.goto('https://example.com', { waitUntil: 'networkidle' });
await page.pdf({
path: 'page.pdf',
format: 'Letter',
landscape: true,
margin: {
top: '1cm',
right: '1cm',
bottom: '1cm',
left: '1cm'
}
});
await browser.close();
})();Install Playwright and its browser before running the script. For example, in a new Node.js project, run npm install playwright and then npx playwright install chromium. The API also supports paper formats including Letter, Legal, Tabloid, Ledger, and ISO A sizes. If you omit format, Playwright defaults to Letter; its documented default margins are none. The documented scale range is 0.1 to 2. See the Playwright Page API for the full option list and current behavior.

Choose whether CSS or API dimensions control page size
Use preferCSSPageSize: true when the page’s CSS @page size should take priority over the PDF API’s format, width, or height. Otherwise, set the desired paper format or dimensions in the API options. Playwright’s landscape option controls orientation; use page-size settings and margins as well when you need predictable fit.
Backgrounds and print colors
Playwright’s printBackground option defaults to false. Set it to true if the PDF should retain printed background colors and images. Playwright also notes that PDF printing modifies colors by default; its documentation points to -webkit-print-color-adjust when exact color rendering is needed.

Troubleshoot landscape PDF output
The PDF is still portrait
- In a browser, check the print dialog’s orientation setting; CSS alone may not override the dialog’s choice.
- In Playwright, pass
landscape: true, or use CSS page sizing withpreferCSSPageSize: truewhen the@pagesize is meant to take priority. - If you rely on
@page, confirm the rule is loaded for print and test it in the target browser.
Content is clipped or too small
Review the paper format, margins, and scale. Landscape orientation does not guarantee that a wide page will fit legibly. Choose a suitable paper size and margins, and adjust the print layout rather than assuming orientation alone will fix it.
The PDF uses the screen layout
Add print-specific rules with @media print or use a separate print stylesheet. Print media rules can hide navigation and other screen-only elements.

Background colors or images are missing
In Playwright, set printBackground: true; its default is false.
Colors differ from the webpage
Playwright notes that PDF printing modifies colors by default. For exact color rendering, consult its guidance on -webkit-print-color-adjust.
Page rules behave differently in an older browser
MDN marks @page as Baseline 2024 and cautions that older devices or browsers may not consistently support all parts of the rule. Test the output in the browser you need to support.
