Click “Load more” and wait for results to change
Use a locator tied to the button’s accessible role and name, then check for a page-specific change after every click. A click completing does not, by itself, confirm that asynchronously loaded results are ready. Playwright locators retry and resolve against the current DOM, which helps when a page rerenders between clicks. Playwright’s locator guidance recommends user-facing locators such as getByRole; its actionability guidance explains that clicks wait for actionability checks and scroll the target into view.
JavaScript example
This Playwright Test example assumes each result is represented by [data-testid="result-card"] and that the button disappears or becomes disabled at the end. Replace those assumptions with selectors and an end condition that match the page you are automating.

});The example’s exact count assertion is suitable only if each click adds exactly one result. If a click can append several cards, assert that the count becomes greater than the previous value using a page-specific retrying condition, or wait for a known new card to appear. If results replace rather than append, assert the expected replacement or updated page state instead.

Choose a real end condition
The loop needs a stopping rule grounded in the site’s behavior. Inspect the page to determine whether its button disappears, becomes disabled, or is accompanied by an explicit end-of-results marker. If the button stays available indefinitely, set a deliberate maximum number of clicks or a maximum result count. The example’s limit of 20 is a safety cap, not a recommended universal value.
Capture the viewport or the full page
Capture only after the last intended content change has been confirmed. By default, page.screenshot() captures the current viewport. Set fullPage: true to capture the full scrollable document as if it were displayed on a very tall screen.

Prefer an assertion about the content that should change—such as a result count increasing, a new card appearing, or a loading indicator disappearing—to a fixed sleep. The correct assertion depends on the site’s markup and behavior. A navigation wait is relevant only if the button actually navigates to another page.
Do not use networkidle as a default way to decide that appended content is ready. Pages may keep network connections open, and network quiet does not establish that the expected results appeared. Playwright’s Page API documentation says most explicit waitForLoadState() calls are unnecessary because actions auto-wait, and discourages networkidle as a general test readiness condition.

Troubleshooting
- The button locator does not match: Check the button’s accessible name and role in the rendered page. If the control is not exposed as a button, use an appropriate locator based on its actual semantics rather than assuming its label.
- The count assertion times out: Confirm the result selector matches the cards and that clicking really adds results. The page may update a different element, append multiple cards, or require a different site-specific readiness signal.
- The loop stops too early: A button can remain visible while disabled. Check whether it is enabled, and inspect the site for a separate end marker.
- The loop never stops: Add a maximum-click or maximum-results limit if the site does not provide a reliable end signal. Do not treat a still-visible button as proof that more results exist.
- The screenshot is missing results: Make sure the final content-change assertion succeeds before capture. If the image is unexpectedly short, confirm that you used
fullPage: trueand that the desired results were loaded before taking it.
