A 24/7 YouTube livestream can collect donations without Super Chat, but the right method depends on who should receive the money. YouTube Giving provides a Donate button for eligible nonprofit fundraisers. For personal creator support, you can direct viewers to an external payment destination using a clickable YouTube link placement; that payment is handled outside YouTube.
Choose the route that matches who receives the donation

YouTube Giving is not the documented route for personal creator tips. Conversely, an external link is not a YouTube Donate button, and YouTube does not thereby handle or endorse the payment.
Use YouTube Giving for an eligible nonprofit fundraiser
Check eligibility first
YouTube’s current guidance says a channel generally needs to be based in a supported location, have at least 10,000 subscribers, participate in the YouTube Partner Program, and not be designated as made for kids. YouTube notes that some channels may appear to have access outside those stated requirements, so check the channel’s available options rather than treating every exception as impossible. Add the fundraiser to the scheduled live stream
- In YouTube Studio, create or open the scheduled live stream and add a YouTube Giving fundraiser to it.
- Confirm the fundraiser has started before expecting viewers to see the Donate control.
- Make sure the content is not designated as made for kids.
- Decide whether to enable live chat. If it is enabled, viewers can see the Donate button in chat; if it is not, YouTube says the Donate button appears next to or below the stream.
- Check the live watch page and chat after setup, including on the devices and stream format your viewers use.
YouTube says “Super Chat for Good is now Live Chat Donations.” When Live Chat Donations are active, Super Chat and Super Stickers are turned off for that stream. This is a distinct charity-fundraising feature, not a way to keep Super Chat active alongside it. YouTube’s explanation is in its Live Chat Donations FAQ.

YouTube says 100% of a contribution made through YouTube Giving goes to the nonprofit, and YouTube pays the transaction fees. Its donation guidance also says nonprofit donations are non-refundable. These terms apply to YouTube Giving, not to off-platform providers. See Donate to a nonprofit with YouTube Giving.
Use an external link for personal creator support
Pick a placement viewers can actually open
- Channel profile: Profile links are clickable. YouTube currently allows up to 14 channel profile links, with the first featured prominently. See Manage your YouTube channel’s profile.
- Horizontal live stream: URLs in live chat and channel descriptions are clickable, according to YouTube’s link guidance.
- Vertical live feed in the YouTube mobile app: Links in live chat and channel descriptions are not clickable there. A viewer may need to visit another eligible placement, such as the channel profile.
- Long-form comments and descriptions: Clickable external links require advanced features access.
Before relying on a link, test it in the stream format and on the device your audience uses. YouTube’s placement details are in Sharing links with your audiences.

Check the destination and disclose what happens
Use a payment page appropriate to your purpose and country, and tell viewers clearly that they are leaving YouTube to make a payment. Check the provider’s country availability, fees, payout timing, and tax terms directly; YouTube’s official materials do not establish a best external provider or verify any provider’s fee or partner program.
YouTube’s external links policy applies across the platform: links directing users to content that violates YouTube policies are not allowed. Review the External links policy before posting a destination.

What changes when the stream runs 24/7
YouTube’s help pages describe fundraiser setup and live-stream use, but they do not promise that a Donate button will remain available without interruption throughout a continuous 24/7 broadcast. Treat YouTube Giving as the supported feature path, not an uptime guarantee for every stream configuration.
If the button is missing, check the practical conditions YouTube identifies: the fundraiser may not have started, the content may be designated as made for kids, or a viewer using a mobile device may need portrait orientation to see live chat. If you are using an external link, verify that it is in a clickable placement for that viewer’s stream format.

Quick checks if donations are not appearing
- YouTube Giving Donate button is absent: Confirm the fundraiser has started and the video is not designated as made for kids. Check whether the viewer is using live chat on mobile; portrait orientation may be needed to see it.
- There is no Donate button in chat: Live chat must be enabled for the chat version of Live Chat Donations. Without chat, look next to or below the stream instead.
- Super Chat disappeared: That is expected on a stream using Live Chat Donations; YouTube turns off Super Chat and Super Stickers for that stream.
- An external URL cannot be tapped: Check the placement and whether the viewer is watching a vertical live feed in the YouTube mobile app. Those live chat and channel-description URLs are not clickable in that context.
- A description or comment URL is not clickable: Clickable external links there require advanced features access.
- A payment provider will not accept a donation: Check the provider’s country availability and terms directly. YouTube’s link guidance does not establish provider eligibility, fees, or payout handling.
