First identify which order is changing: the video files in an OBS VLC Video playlist, the visual stacking of sources in an OBS scene, or the tagged products viewers see on YouTube. Each is controlled in a different place. For an OBS media playlist, check Shuffle Playlist; for YouTube Shopping products, rearrange them in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and save.
Identify which order is changing
“Playlist order” can mean three different things during a live stream. Match what you see to the list before changing settings:
- Videos play in an unexpected sequence: this is the OBS VLC Video source’s media playlist.
- One graphic or video covers another: this is the visual stacking order of sources in an OBS scene, not playback sequence.
- Tagged products appear in an unexpected sequence: this is YouTube Shopping’s product order, controlled in YouTube Studio.
Changing the OBS media playlist does not control YouTube Shopping tags, and changing product tags in YouTube Studio does not reorder an OBS VLC playlist.
Fix the order of videos in an OBS playlist
- In OBS, find the VLC Video source that contains the playlist, then open its Properties.
- Check the playlist and confirm that Shuffle Playlist is off. OBS documents this setting as controlling whether files are randomized or played in the order of the file list; its documented default is Off.
- Apply the change and verify the sequence using the source. If it still changes with shuffle off, the setting alone does not establish the cause. Check the specific playlist, source, and workflow rather than assuming another setting is responsible.
The VLC Video source requires VLC to be installed. OBS specifies 64-bit VLC when using 64-bit OBS.

Fix the order of tagged products on YouTube
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room for the stream and go to the Shopping product picker.
- Drag the tagged products into the sequence you want viewers to see, then save the changes.
- Complete removals and rearrangements at least 30 minutes before the live stream begins. YouTube recommends that timing for the best viewer experience.
YouTube says the order in the product picker is the order shown to viewers. However, updated selections may not be visible to some people who are already watching, so do not rely on a last-minute rearrangement to update every existing viewer.
If the problem is OBS scene stacking
When an element is covering another, use the Sources list in the relevant OBS scene. Move sources by dragging them in the list or selecting a source and using the up and down arrow buttons. This changes which elements appear on top in the preview; it does not change the sequence of files in a VLC playlist.

When the order still appears wrong
The documented controls explain how to set these orders, but they do not establish every possible reason a sequence might appear to change. Before escalating, record the details that distinguish your case:
- OBS version and operating system.
- Whether the affected list is a VLC Video playlist, scene Sources list, or YouTube Shopping product picker.
- For a VLC playlist, the playlist contents and whether Shuffle Playlist is enabled.
- The steps that reproduce the unexpected order, and whether the change is visible in OBS, YouTube Studio, or to viewers.
OBS’s Help Portal points users to its knowledge base, official Discord, forums, and source repository for support.
