Use your browser’s full-page screenshot command rather than taking and stitching separate screen grabs. For sharper output, adjust the device pixel ratio (DPR) where the browser offers that control, let the page finish rendering, and inspect the saved image at the size you plan to use. More output pixels can improve rendering scale, but cannot restore detail that the page’s original images do not contain.

Choose a full-page capture method

Firefox and Chrome DevTools both document ways to capture content beyond the visible viewport. Use Firefox’s standard screenshot tool for a quick image, Firefox’s Web Console helper when you need capture options such as DPR or a delay, or Chrome DevTools when you want a full-size capture with device-mode settings.

Capture a full page in Firefox

Use the built-in screenshot tool

  1. Open the page in Firefox and wait for its visible content to finish loading.
  2. Right-click an empty area of the page and choose Take Screenshot. Alternatively, press Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+S on macOS.
  3. Choose Save full page to capture beyond the current viewport.
  4. Save the downloaded image, or use Copy if you want it on the clipboard.

Firefox’s screenshot interface also distinguishes a full-page capture from a visible-area capture. Check that you selected the full-page option before saving. Mozilla’s support instructions are at Take screenshots in Firefox.

Use the Web Console for DPR, delay, or an element

Firefox’s Web Console provides the :screenshot helper. For example, enter:

  • Easy Plug-And-Play: The Brio 101 works with most video calling platforms, including Microsoft Teams, Zoom and Google Meet—no hassle; it just works
:screenshot --fullpage --dpr 2 --delay 2 --filename long-page.png

This requests a full-page image at DPR 2, waits two seconds before capture, and saves it as long-page.png. The helper also documents --selector for capturing an element and its descendants. Use the option set that matches your goal; a selected element capture is not the same as a full-page capture.

Firefox’s helper overwrites an existing file if you reuse the same filename. Choose a new filename when you need to keep an earlier capture. See the documented options in the Firefox Web Console command reference.

Capture a full-size screenshot in Chrome

  1. Open the webpage in Chrome and launch DevTools.
  2. Turn on Device mode.
  3. Open Device mode’s More options menu.
  4. Choose Capture a full size screenshot.

Device mode lets you configure the simulated viewport and DPR before capturing. Google defines DPR as the ratio of physical screen pixels to logical CSS pixels; Chrome uses it when drawing on HiDPI displays. The control changes the rendering scale, not the detail available in the page’s source images. For the current Device mode workflow, see Simulate mobile devices with device mode.

Keep the screenshot legible

Use DPR for pixel dimensions, not as a detail guarantee

A higher DPR can produce more output pixels relative to the page’s CSS-pixel dimensions. Firefox’s helper and Chrome Device mode document DPR controls, but a larger file does not prove that the original page assets have more detail. Avoid enlarging a small screenshot in an image editor and expecting it to recreate fine text or image features.

Let the page render, then inspect the whole image

  • Wait for the page’s content to appear before capturing. If late-loading content matters, Firefox’s helper includes --delay to pause before the capture.
  • Inspect the top, middle, and bottom of the saved result for missing images, blank sections, cut-off content, or repeated elements.
  • Check the image at its expected display or print size. Pixel dimensions alone do not determine whether text will be comfortably readable there.
  • For print, consider whether a PDF suits the task better than a very tall raster image. Browser print and screenshot output are different workflows; verify the chosen export before sharing it.

Full-page capture is documented, but browser documentation does not promise identical behavior on every dynamic website. A page that changes while it loads may need a different wait or another capture attempt.

When to use an API instead of browser controls

For automated captures in an application or repeatable workflow, ScreenshotNeo offers a website screenshot API and MCP server. It can return PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF; its API accepts one GET request for a URL. The service says it accepts cookie or consent banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. It bills only clean shots: bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, with the result identified by X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. Details are at ScreenshotNeo.

Or skip the browser setup

One GET request can save a webpage capture. Replace the example URL with the page you want to capture and use your API key:

Troubleshooting

  • The screenshot stops at the visible viewport: In Firefox, choose Save full page, not the visible-area option. In Chrome, choose Capture a full size screenshot from Device mode’s More options menu.
  • Images or other content are missing: Wait for the page to finish rendering and inspect the result again. For Firefox’s console helper, try a short --delay. Dynamic pages may not behave identically on every capture.
  • Text still looks blurry: Check the output at its intended display size and confirm the capture’s pixel dimensions. A higher DPR changes rendering scale but does not add detail to the page’s original assets.
  • The earlier Firefox image disappeared: The Web Console helper overwrites a file when saving again to the same filename. Use a different --filename value to preserve both captures.
  • The long image is awkward to print: Test a PDF or print workflow instead, then review the exported pages. The cited browser documentation does not establish a universal print-quality comparison.
