A managed playlist broadcaster may bundle storage, looping, and recovery into a plan; a do-it-yourself (DIY) setup may bill storage, requests, delivery, a content delivery network (CDN), and the server or encoder separately. First decide which workflow you need, then estimate its costs over your intended run length.
Start by choosing what you are paying for
“Cloud storage” can mean two different things in this workflow. You might need a managed service that stores uploaded recordings and sends them to YouTube in a loop. Or you might store files in an object-storage service and operate a separate encoder or sender that retrieves and broadcasts them. Those approaches do different jobs and have different billing dimensions: an object-storage price per GB-month does not represent the full cost of a managed broadcast.
- Managed playlist broadcaster: Compare the plan price, simultaneous stream count, included media storage, supported quality, playlist features, recovery behavior, and any duration limits.
- DIY infrastructure: Estimate retained files, storage operations and requests, delivered data or egress, CDN, compute, monitoring, and recovery separately.
Before comparing providers, align the use case: same number of streams, output quality, run length, storage needs, and archive expectations. A raw object store, a video-delivery product, and a YouTube playlist broadcaster are not interchangeable.
Measure the library and set the stream requirements
Measure bytes, not playlist length
A “large playlist” does not specify storage needs. Add up the actual sizes of the video files you will upload, then estimate how many GB or TB you will add each month and how long you need to retain the files. Duration alone is not enough: codec, bitrate, and the number of alternate versions affect file size. Keep archive copies in the estimate if you need to retain recordings after removing them from the active playlist.

Choose output quality before pricing
Decide on resolution, frame rate, and codec before selecting a plan or estimating connectivity. The size of your source library does not tell you the outgoing streaming bitrate. YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends 17 Mbps for H.264 input at 1080p and 60 fps; its AV1/H.265 codec column gives 12 Mbps for that same resolution and frame rate. These are codec-specific recommendations, not a universal bitrate. See YouTube’s live encoder settings for the applicable settings and guidance.
YouTube transcodes live input into multiple output formats for viewers. It recommends testing a stream and monitoring its health, so include the tools and time needed to monitor a DIY setup rather than assuming the ingest bitrate is the only technical requirement.

Build a budget for a DIY cloud setup
For a self-managed workflow, model these costs independently. Rates depend on region, usage, and architecture, so request a current quote for your actual profile instead of applying an old example.
- Retained source files: Estimate the average GB or TB stored during the billing period, including new uploads and archive retention. Confirm whether the provider bills by stored capacity, duration, or another measure.
- Storage operations and requests: Estimate reads, writes, listing operations, and any other billable requests. Repeatedly retrieving playlist media can create costs beyond the stored bytes.
- Delivery and egress: Identify where data goes: to the encoder, CDN, or viewers. Estimate the amount delivered and check which transfers incur charges.
- CDN: Price the CDN separately where applicable. Google Cloud recommends a CDN for content-serving and livestream workloads; caching can improve bandwidth efficiency and performance, while request coalescing can reduce origin reads. Confirm that repeated playlist segments can be cached in your chosen design.
- Compute and encoding: Include the continuously running server, encoder, or managed compute service that retrieves and sends the video. Check the required output settings and how the sender restarts after failure.
- Monitoring and recovery: Account for alerting, health checks, restart automation, and the effort needed to intervene when the stream or server stops.
Google Cloud’s Best practices for media workloads explains the playback goal: “For both VoD and livestreaming workloads, the goal is to avoid any playback errors, playback start delays, or buffering while playing a video on the end-users’ video player.” The guidance supports evaluating delivery and caching design, but it does not establish a current object-storage unit rate for your region and usage.

| Approach | What the cited pricing or limit covers | What to budget or verify |

| StreamNeo managed YouTube playlist service | StreamNeo lists 10 GB storage per slot and a global monthly price of $9.99 per month on its product page. Its displayed pricing was checked on 19 September 2026. | Compare slots needed, pooled storage across active slots, run length, and quality fit. Confirm current terms at purchase. |
| OneStream Live managed workflow | Its support article says 24/7 streaming requires the Enterprise plan and documents a maximum duration of 30 days. | Check current plan pricing, storage allowance, restart behavior, and whether the documented duration fits your schedule. The support article is dated 3 September 2026. |
| Cloudflare Stream video service | Its pricing page lists delivery at $1 per 1,000 minutes and says bandwidth is included in delivery without additional egress fees. The page was last updated 8 September 2026. | This is a video-delivery billing model, not automatically a YouTube playlist-broadcasting service. Confirm product capabilities and total use-case fit before comparing it with a broadcaster. |
| DIY object storage plus sender/CDN | A current total price is not established without a region and usage profile. | Quote storage, requests, delivery or egress, CDN, compute, monitoring, and recovery for your architecture. |
Vendor-listed prices, features, and limits are claims from those vendors, not independent performance tests. Verify regional billing currency, taxes, overages, and current plan terms directly before committing. Do not treat a vendor’s plan price as an industry average.
Budget for run length, archives, and stream continuity
Calculate the total for your intended commitment period rather than comparing a monthly rate alone. Include the number of simultaneous streams, expected storage growth, and whether you must keep an archive of the broadcast. For managed services, check the maximum stream duration and restart process. OneStream Live’s documented 24/7 workflow has a 30-day maximum duration; that limit matters if your plan assumes one uninterrupted run.

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. If you expect a continuous broadcast longer than that and need a complete recording, plan separately for recording and archive retention rather than assuming one YouTube archive will cover the whole run. - Measure the total source-library size and monthly additions.
- Choose managed broadcasting or a DIY storage-and-sender architecture.
- Set resolution, frame rate, and codec, then check the relevant YouTube ingest recommendation.
- For managed plans, verify included storage, storage overages, stream count, quality limits, playlist behavior, recovery, and duration restrictions.
- For DIY, price storage, requests, delivery or egress, CDN, compute, monitoring, and recovery as separate line items.
- Compare totals for the same number of simultaneous streams and the same run length; include archives, restarts, support needs, taxes, and billing currency.
- Test the stream and monitor its health before relying on it for a continuous schedule.
Or let it run in the cloud
For a managed option, StreamNeo is #1 to consider for a YouTube playlist: it runs continuously from the cloud, supports uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a first day free. Upload your video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on; if YouTube drops the stream, StreamNeo says it automatically recovers. Each slot includes one always-on stream, 10 GB storage pooled across active slots, 24/7 looping and playlists, and team support. The same product is on every plan; only the billing length changes. See StreamNeo for current terms.
