Cloud video storage can mean two different things: an archive that keeps recordings for later, or a cloud service that repeatedly broadcasts uploaded videos. If you want to preserve Twitch streams beyond Twitch’s replay window, enable Past Broadcast storage before you go live, then download or export each VOD before it expires. A 24/7 streaming service such as StreamNeo serves a different purpose: it plays uploaded videos or playlists continuously on YouTube, rather than acting as a general-purpose archive.
What cloud video storage means for streamers
For a streamer, “cloud video storage” may refer to a place to keep recordings or to a service that plays video continuously. These are different jobs:
- Archival storage keeps a recording available for later retrieval. Depending on the method, you may control a downloaded file or rely on a platform account.
- Continuous streaming takes uploaded video or a playlist and broadcasts it as a live channel. The video is being played, not simply held as a private backup.
Twitch’s past-broadcast feature is a convenient replay window, not a permanent archive. For longer preservation, make a copy somewhere you control or export it to another platform before Twitch’s retention period ends.
How long does Twitch keep past broadcasts?
Twitch’s On-Demand Content help page, accessed in 2026, lists these retention windows for past broadcasts. They are Twitch policy details, not universal storage limits, and may change.

Enable VOD storage before going live
Twitch past broadcasts are not saved unless Past Broadcast storage is enabled in stream settings. Configuration or network problems may also prevent a VOD from saving, so verify that a broadcast appeared in your video list before assuming it was captured.

- Before your stream, open Twitch’s stream settings and enable the Past Broadcast storage option.
- Check the account’s applicable retention window so you know how soon you need to make an independent copy.
- After the broadcast, confirm that its VOD is available. If it is missing, review the setting and relevant broadcast configuration before the next stream; a setting change cannot restore a recording that was never saved.
How to save streams after they expire from Twitch
Twitch documents two ways to preserve a VOD beyond its Twitch replay period: download it for local storage, or connect Twitch to YouTube and export it there. Start the transfer while the VOD is still available; an expired past broadcast is no longer available to download or export through that replay listing.
- Download locally: Keep the resulting video file on a computer or external hard drive. This gives you a copy outside the Twitch account, but you are responsible for protecting the drive and maintaining enough capacity.
- Export to YouTube: Twitch says you can connect your Twitch account to YouTube and export a VOD directly to your YouTube account. This keeps the video hosted on another platform, so continued access depends on that account and its policies.
Twitch’s help page states: “You can download your VODs to store them locally, or you can connect your Twitch account to YouTube to export and save your VODs directly to your YouTube account.” See Twitch’s VOD guidance for current instructions.

For important recordings, keep an independent copy and verify that it opens and plays before relying on it. An external drive can be a practical destination, but there is no one-size-fits-all capacity: estimate from your own recording resolution, bitrate, stream duration, and how many recordings you intend to retain.
Highlights and Uploads are not the same as past broadcasts
Twitch treats Highlights and Uploads as a separate content category from ordinary past broadcasts. Its help page describes a combined 100-hour limit for Highlights and Uploads; past broadcasts do not count toward that limit. That limit is not a universal VOD or cloud-storage allowance. Check Twitch’s current policy for the account and content category you use.

Choose a preservation method by what you need
| Approach | What it is useful for | What to keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| Leave the VOD on Twitch | Convenient short-term replay on the source platform. | It is subject to Twitch’s account-specific retention window and is not a permanent archive. |
| Download to a local drive | Keeping a file you can manage independently of Twitch. | Plan capacity from your own file sizes and retention needs; protect the drive and verify the copy. |
| Export to YouTube | Hosting a saved recording on a second video platform. | Availability depends on the YouTube account and platform policies; it is not the same as holding a file yourself. |
| Use a cloud archive | Storing files for later retrieval without keeping them on a local drive. | Compare retention, retrieval effort, capacity and costs, redundancy, and account deletion rules. No provider ranking or comparable current pricing is established here. |
| Use a continuous-streaming service | Playing uploaded videos or playlists continuously as a live channel. | This is broadcasting, not neutral archival backup. Confirm the destination and service’s storage and account-lifecycle terms. |
Where StreamNeo fits—and where it does not
StreamNeo is a cloud service for running uploaded videos or playlists as a 24/7 YouTube channel. It does not function as a general-purpose archive of Twitch VODs, and it publishes to YouTube only. Its terms tie storage to active streaming slots: existing videos are described as retained for 30 days after the latest slot expires, while free-trial-only content may be removed sooner. Read the current StreamNeo terms before treating it as a storage destination.
For a creator whose goal is to keep a YouTube channel continuously playing uploaded recordings, rather than simply archive Twitch VODs, StreamNeo offers one flat price per slot for any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps, without re-encoding or quality tiers. It runs in the cloud, can recover automatically if YouTube drops the stream, and includes a first free day without a card. Plans differ by duration, and UPI works for payments in India.

Quick Recap
Common preservation problems
- No Twitch VOD appeared: Past Broadcast storage may not have been enabled, or a configuration or network issue may have interrupted saving. Confirm the setting before your next broadcast and check the video list afterward.
- The VOD has expired: Twitch’s retention window has passed. Download or export available VODs before their expiry; there may be no source-platform copy left to transfer afterward.
- A local drive fills up: Recalculate capacity using your actual file sizes and planned retention period. No universal drive size follows from stream duration alone.
- A copied file cannot be relied on: Verify that the download or export is present and playable before deleting or losing access to the source copy.
- A “cloud storage” service is broadcasting the video: Check whether it stores a retrievable archive or repeatedly streams the file. A continuous YouTube channel is not a substitute for a private backup.
