To stream the same program to YouTube Live and Amazon Interactive Video Service (IVS), configure two separate destinations in an encoder or distribution service that supports both. YouTube and IVS provide different ingest URLs and stream keys; the AWS setup guidance reviewed does not document IVS automatically forwarding a stream to YouTube. You will need to send a feed to each platform and verify each one independently.

What you need before setup

  • A YouTube channel eligible to livestream. YouTube requires channel verification and no live-streaming restrictions in the prior 90 days. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before your event. YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance has the current requirements.
  • An AWS account and an Amazon IVS channel.
  • An encoder or distribution workflow that can send to both YouTube and IVS at the same time. Support for concurrent outputs varies by tool; check its current documentation rather than assuming a single-output encoder can do this.
  • Enough upstream bandwidth for the outputs you plan to send. YouTube advises having sufficient upload speed for simulstreaming.

Decide whether you are broadcasting immediately or using a scheduled YouTube event. For a scheduled stream, YouTube’s encoder workflow is to connect the encoder, wait for the Live Control Room preview, then select “Go live.” See Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

How the two-destination setup works

IVS and YouTube are separate ingest destinations. Creating an IVS channel gives you an ingest server and stream key for sending video into IVS; YouTube Live Control Room provides a different server URL and key. An IVS playback URL is for viewing the IVS stream, not for ingesting it into YouTube. The practical implication of the platforms’ separate setup workflows is that you need an encoder with explicit multiple-output support or a separate distribution service configured to deliver to both.

Before relying on a distribution service, confirm it supports both destinations concurrently, how it handles transcoding, whether one failed output affects the other, and what delay an extra forwarding hop may add. AWS strongly recommends against third-party forwarding to IVS when low latency is required.

Set up the Amazon IVS destination

  1. Create an IVS channel. Use the AWS console or AWS CLI to create the channel. AWS supplies the ingest endpoint, stream key, and playback URL. Keep the stream key private: anyone who has it can stream to that channel. See AWS: Create a channel.
  2. Check the channel’s ingest and output constraints. AWS supports RTMP, RTMPS, and SRT ingest, subject to channel and encoder support. Resolution and bitrate must conform to the channel type; AWS does not give one universal setting for every channel. See Amazon IVS Streaming Configuration.
  3. Configure the IVS output in your encoder. In AWS’s documented OBS path, select Amazon IVS as the service and enter the IVS stream key. Use a protocol supported by both the encoder and channel. AWS recommends a two-second keyframe interval for this OBS setup. Match resolution and bitrate to the IVS channel type; incompatible values can prevent a connection. See AWS: Set up streaming software.

Network access for IVS

If a firewall restricts outbound connections, AWS lists TCP port 443 to *.live-video.net for RTMPS and TCP port 9000 to *.srt.live-video.net for SRT. Check the protocol you selected and allow its corresponding traffic. Details are in AWS’s streaming configuration guidance.

Set up the YouTube destination

  1. Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room. Create or select the event or stream.
  2. Copy the YouTube stream URL and stream key shown for that stream.
  3. Enter them in the YouTube output of your multi-output encoder or distribution service—not in the IVS output.
  4. For a scheduled event, wait for the encoder feed to appear in Live Control Room, then follow YouTube’s event flow and select “Go live” when ready.

YouTube describes the stream key as a password and address. Do not reveal it in screenshots, recordings, or public notes. If it may have been exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup instructions and stream settings guidance.

Send the program to both platforms

YouTube calls sending the same content to multiple platforms at once “simulstreaming.” Its advice is to have active accounts on the platforms, obtain each platform’s stream URL and key, and ensure adequate upload bandwidth. Read YouTube’s guidance on streaming across platforms.

Option 1: Encoder with multiple outputs

Use this route only if your encoder software or hardware explicitly supports simultaneous outputs to YouTube and IVS. Add each platform as a distinct destination, enter its own URL and key, and check whether the encoder sends separate full-quality feeds or shares processing resources. The exact controls and output limits depend on the encoder; the reviewed platform guidance does not establish a universal click path.

Option 2: Distribution service

Configure the service to receive your program and deliver it separately to YouTube and IVS. Check its destination support and failure behavior, along with any transcoding, latency, and service costs. An extra forwarding hop can affect delay, which matters especially if you need IVS low latency.

Plan for bandwidth and independent failures

Direct simultaneous outputs can increase the upload capacity required at the encoder. Leave headroom rather than planning around a connection that only just handles one destination. If bandwidth is inadequate, reduce the output load or consider a distribution architecture, weighing its added delay and cost. Monitor both outputs: a working YouTube preview does not show that IVS is receiving video, and the reverse is also true.

  • 【Support Mic-in for Commentary】Rybozen capture card has microphone input and you can use it to add external commentary when playing a game. Please note: it only accepts 3.5mm TRS standard microphone headset.

Start the stream and confirm both feeds

  1. Start the configured encoder or distribution workflow.
  2. Check YouTube’s Live Control Room for its preview and status. For a scheduled event, use the event’s “Go live” control when YouTube’s preview is ready.
  3. Confirm IVS playback separately in the AWS console or with an IVS Player SDK. AWS says console playback may take up to 30 seconds—usually less—to appear after streaming starts. Console preview consumes live-video output; console broadcast consumes input.
  4. Check both destinations again after the broadcast begins. A preview on one platform is not proof that the other output is healthy.

Troubleshooting

YouTube has no preview

  • Confirm the YouTube server URL and stream key are in the YouTube output, not the IVS output.
  • Check the Live Control Room event status and that the encoder is actually sending.
  • If the key may have been exposed, reset it and update the encoder or distribution service.

IVS shows no picture

  • Verify the IVS ingest endpoint and stream key, and confirm that you did not use the playback URL as an ingest address.
  • Check that the selected protocol is supported by the encoder and channel.
  • Check firewall access for the relevant RTMPS or SRT ports and destinations.
  • Ensure resolution and bitrate fit the IVS channel type.

Connection is rejected or unstable

  • Check encoder support for the selected protocol, particularly RTMPS if that is the configured ingest.
  • Bring the IVS output resolution and bitrate within the channel type’s limits; AWS says these values are interrelated.
  • For the documented OBS-to-IVS setup, use the recommended two-second keyframe interval.
  • Inspect logs or output status for each destination instead of treating a connection to one platform as proof the other is connected.

Only one platform receives video

  • Check each output’s status, URL, key, and destination configuration separately.
  • Confirm your encoder or service actually supports simultaneous outputs; support is tool-specific.
  • Check whether a distribution service reports a destination-specific error or whether the local upload connection is limiting delivery.

Upload capacity is insufficient

Reduce the output load if your encoder and production needs allow it, or evaluate a distribution service. Before switching architectures, account for possible added latency and the service’s cost.

Costs and production checks

Costs depend on the encoder or distribution service you choose and the applicable AWS input and output charges. AWS notes that IVS console preview uses live-video output and console broadcast uses input; check current AWS pricing for your region and usage before production. The setup guidance cited here does not establish a universal price for this workflow.
