To fade audio as nature clips change in OBS, put the clips in scenes, select Fade under Scene Transitions, and set a duration. OBS’s built-in transition is a scene-level control, not a separate audio-fade timer. A 2020 OBS forum response says audio sources entering or leaving with a scene fade during the transition, with no fade tail afterward; check the behavior in your installed version.
Choose how OBS will play the clips
For deliberate control over when each clip changes, use separate scenes and add each clip as a media source. If you want sequential playlist playback instead, OBS’s VLC Video source supports playlists, looping, and shuffle. VLC must be installed for that source type to appear. OBS documents visibility behavior for VLC Video, but does not establish that every playlist change produces the same audio fade as a scene transition.
Separate scenes for deliberate changes
- Create a scene for each clip or intended clip state. Give scenes clear names so you can select the right one while operating OBS.
- Add the clip to its scene using an appropriate media source. The OBS Media Sources guide lists MP3, AAC, OGG, and WAV among supported audio types.
- Arrange and test the scenes in the order you want them to play. This approach makes the scene change the deliberate transition point.
VLC Video for playlist playback
- Install VLC if it is not already installed.
- Add a VLC Video source and configure its playlist and any loop or shuffle options you need.
- Test how your installed OBS version handles the audio at playlist changes. Do not assume playlist item changes use the same fade behavior as switching between scenes.
OBS’s Media Sources guide describes supported source types and VLC Video options.
Set the scene transition to Fade
- In OBS, arrange the scenes and sources so the outgoing and incoming clips are represented in the scene change you intend to make.
- Find the Scene Transitions section in the OBS window.
- Select Fade. OBS’s overview guide says Fade is available from first launch and that the active transition and its duration can be changed.
- Set the Fade duration to suit the pacing and material of your clips. There is no single ideal duration: a slow change in ambience and a quick change between short clips may call for different timing.
- Switch between the scenes and listen to the change. If the audio does not fade as expected, check whether the audio source is present in one scene and absent from the other, and verify the result in your installed OBS version.
The audio detail comes from an OBS community-forum response dated May 14, 2020, rather than the official transition guide: it describes sources entering or leaving with a scene fading during that transition, without continuing afterward. The standard Fade control does not document an independently timed audio fade.
#1 Best Overall
- [XLR Mic Input] One XLR microphone input interface is set on the gaming audio mixer, which is great to up your audio quality with your XLR setup. The XLR mixer is a stepping stone to upgrade your live streaming. Audio mixer offered built-in 48V phantom power which opens up more choices for mics. Directly use it with your condenser microphone but do not solve added peripherals. (NOT available for USB mic)
- [Individual Channel Control] Gaming audio mixer for one mic recording with smooth volume slider fader take your streaming recording to a whole new level with full pleasure. Four independent channels set on the DJ mixer give audio volume of the MICROPHONE, LINE IN, HEADPHONE, and LINE OUT channels individual control. Configurable on the PC audio mixer instead of just operating on your game or streaming software.
- [Mute and Monitor] The front mute and monitor buttons but not at the back, make it easier to get the audio interface use. Ability to mute audio, the audio mixer for streaming prevents background noise from damaging your live broadcast. Real-time feedback between speaking and hearing will not distract your attention, which encourage you to speak more confidently. The sturdy-built control button allow you to operate freely and easily during live streaming.
- [Sound Effects] The computer sound mixer supports four pre-recorded customized button that can be recorded and activated at the press of button to post production. 6 kinds of voice changing modes change your output style. 12 auto tune changes the tone of your voice. The podcast mixer being able to add different and fun effects is a huge bonus for your streaming or game voice.
- [Controllable Vibrant RGB] RGB button on the audio mixer DJ meets different live streaming themes. Lights on the video mixer is vibrant but not harsh on your eyes. Flowing or frozen RGB color rotation in a decent pace presents a greatly strong impression as a "light show" to your audience. Even a streaming equipment accessory will not be dull looking when video production.
Check levels and confirm the result before going live
- Watch the Audio Mixer meters during a scene change. Mixer controls set source levels; a level adjustment is not itself a scene transition.
- Use audio filters for their intended signal-processing purpose. OBS documents Gain and Compressor in its Filters Guide; compressor sidechain ducking lowers one source in response to another, such as background audio under a microphone. It is not the core control for fading audio with a scene change. See the Compressor Filter guide.
- Record a short sample and listen back. Check that the transition is audible, clips start when expected, and levels do not clip or jump unexpectedly. OBS’s Audio Mixer Guide recommends recording and listening before a live session.
Troubleshoot a fade that does not sound right
| What you hear | What to check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| No audio fade when switching scenes | Whether the audio source is present in one scene and absent in the other; whether the expected behavior matches your installed OBS version. | Test with a simple pair of scenes and a short recording. The 2020 forum explanation concerns sources entering or leaving with a scene, not every possible scene or playlist arrangement. |
| The sound stops abruptly after the transition | Whether you expected the fade to continue after the scene transition ends. | The forum response describes no fade tail after the transition. The reviewed documentation does not establish a native, independently timed audio envelope for this workflow. |
| Playlist clips change without the expected fade | Whether you are changing VLC playlist items rather than switching scenes. | Test the playlist behavior in your installed version. For a predictable scene-change point, use separate scenes and the Fade transition. |
| Audio jumps or clips during a change | Audio Mixer meters and source levels. | Adjust the source level as needed, then record and listen back before going live. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep uploaded nature videos playing as a 24/7 YouTube stream, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option: upload your video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It does not go live from a camera, and it does not replace OBS for configuring these scene transitions.
