You can stream to YouTube over JioFiber with FFmpeg by copying the current ingest URL and stream key from YouTube Studio, choosing encoder settings that YouTube accepts, and setting the bitrate below your measured, sustained upload capacity. JioFiber’s name or advertised download speed alone does not tell you how much upload bandwidth is available at your home.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled. YouTube may require you to enable live streaming before the first broadcast; check YouTube Studio if you cannot create a stream.
- A computer with FFmpeg installed and an input source. The command below is for a video file; a camera or screen capture needs a different FFmpeg input.
- A stable internet connection. Measure upload speed on the computer and network you will actually stream from, preferably near the time you plan to go live.
This guide uses YouTube’s encoder and network guidance current on October 3, 2026. Settings and interface labels can change, so check YouTube’s live encoder guidance when configuring a stream.
Create a YouTube stream and get its credentials
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live. Create a stream or schedule one, then open its stream settings. YouTube documents this workflow in Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown in YouTube Studio. Use the current values shown for that stream, rather than an ingest address copied from an old guide.
- Treat the stream key like a password. Do not post it, include it in screenshots, or share it in a public command or log. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update FFmpeg. YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address” in Manage live stream settings.
Prefer RTMPS when the FFmpeg build and YouTube destination configuration support it. RTMPS is RTMP over a secure SSL connection; FFmpeg documents the protocols in its protocol documentation. Use the protocol and URL YouTube displays for your stream.
Choose a resolution and bitrate for your JioFiber upload
Base the setting on measured outbound bandwidth, not the download rate in a plan advertisement. YouTube recommends leaving roughly 20% of upload bandwidth beyond the stream’s total bitrate. Other people and devices using the same connection can reduce the rate available to the streaming computer, and interruptions can affect delivery. See YouTube’s streaming tips.

For H.264, YouTube’s current recommended video bitrates include:

These are YouTube encoder recommendations, not guarantees that a particular JioFiber connection will sustain a stream. They refer to video bitrate; audio and other network use also consume bandwidth. As a practical starting point, if your measured upload cannot leave the recommended headroom at 1080p, try 720p or reduce the bitrate, then test. A listed minimum is not a promise of stable delivery over a fluctuating connection.
YouTube’s general live encoder guidance supports H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1, with AAC or MP3 audio for RTMP(S). For the H.264 example below, use constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval (do not exceed four seconds), and stereo AAC at 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps. Rec. 709 is listed for SDR. Send a video file with FFmpeg
For a prerecorded file, FFmpeg’s documented pattern uses -re to read the input in real time and -f flv for RTMP output. The template below combines that pattern with YouTube-oriented H.264 settings. It is illustrative, not a tested command for every FFmpeg build or JioFiber line.

-f flv "rtmps://CURRENT_YOUTUBE_INGEST/STREAM_KEY"Replace input_file.mp4 with the file path, and replace the destination with the current URL and key format shown in YouTube Studio. In this example, the 8 Mbps video bitrate is intended for a 720p30 H.264 stream, and -g 60 sets a two-second GOP at 30 fps. Match the frame rate, keyframe interval, bitrate, buffer, and resolution to the output you intend to send. Do not leave the example bitrate in place if your upload cannot sustain it with headroom.
The command does not explicitly scale the video. If the source file has a different resolution or frame rate, configure output scaling and frame rate deliberately rather than assuming the input will become 720p30. To output a different resolution or frame rate, choose matching bitrate recommendations and a keyframe interval of about two seconds at that output frame rate. The installed FFmpeg build must also include the selected encoder, such as libx264.

For a camera or screen capture, replace the file input with the appropriate platform-specific FFmpeg input device and check device permissions. The file command does not configure a camera, microphone, or screen-capture device. FFmpeg’s protocol and output syntax are documented at ffmpeg.org.
Test before broadcasting publicly
- Start with an unlisted or private test stream, using a representative sample of the audio and movement you expect in the real broadcast.
- Open the Live Control Room preview and check stream health and any warnings or messages while FFmpeg is sending.
- Run the test long enough to observe whether the upload remains steady, and repeat near the time of day you expect to stream if household use varies.
- If health is poor or the connection fluctuates, reduce bitrate or resolution, pause other heavy network use where possible, and test again.
For its network test advice, YouTube recommends an upload speed test and notes that shared network use can limit the bandwidth available to an individual stream. It also advises monitoring stream health. The applicable guidance is at Streaming tips.

The provider name does not establish your actual sustained upload speed, any account-specific upstream limit, or a Jio-specific FFmpeg endpoint. Measure upload from the actual streaming computer and connection, account for household traffic, and judge stability in a test broadcast. Do not substitute advertised download speed for that measurement.

There is no basis here to say ordinary outbound RTMPS streaming requires inbound port forwarding or a public/static IP. If FFmpeg cannot connect, investigate the specific local or network failure: check the URL and key, FFmpeg protocol support, firewall or VPN behavior, and whether the connection can reach the destination. Do not change router settings on the assumption that JioFiber always requires a special configuration.
Troubleshoot common failures

These checks follow from YouTube’s documented encoder and network constraints and FFmpeg’s protocol behavior; they are not diagnoses measured on a particular JioFiber plan.
