Not automatically, based on YouTube’s published guidance. The guidance does not identify repeating one background track by itself as an automatic demonetization trigger. But two separate risks remain: YouTube can review a channel for repetitive content with little original value, and it can detect music that the creator does not have livestream rights to use. A stream may be interrupted while live, and its archive may receive a Content ID claim.

Repetitive content and music rights are separate issues

YouTube says its channel monetization policies apply to live streams as well as Shorts and long-form videos. In reviewing a channel, it considers whether the content is original and authentic or instead repetitive or mass-produced without meaningful creative, educational, or other viewer value. Its examples allow recurring formats when the substance differs meaningfully from one video to another. The policy does not set a rule that using the same song throughout a livestream automatically demonetizes the channel. YouTube channel monetization policies.

This is a channel-level assessment, not a guarantee about an individual broadcast. YouTube says reviewers may consider the channel’s main theme, most-viewed and newest videos, the largest share of watch time, metadata, and the About section. A stream built around a repeated track could be part of a broader pattern reviewers assess, but the available policy does not establish that the track repetition alone decides monetization.

Copyright is a different question: whether you have the necessary rights to use the specific recording and composition in a livestream. A channel can face music-rights enforcement regardless of whether its overall content meets monetization rules.

What can happen while the livestream is on

YouTube says all live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including another live broadcast. If it detects a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and warn you to stop streaming the content. If you address the issue, the stream can continue; if the content remains, YouTube may temporarily interrupt or terminate the stream. A copyright or Community Guidelines strike can also end a stream. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

A music license does not necessarily prevent this interruption. YouTube advises creators who have licensed third-party music to ask the rights holder to add their channel to its Content ID allowlist. A stream can still be interrupted if the channel is not allowlisted, even when the creator has a license or limits the stream to territories where they believe they have the necessary rights. What can happen to the archived stream

If you archive the broadcast, YouTube says Content ID claims are made on archived live streams after the livestream ends. A claim may monetize the video, block it, or track viewership statistics, and the result can differ by country or region. A Content ID claim is distinct from a copyright removal request and strike; YouTube says claims usually do not affect the channel or account. A claim is a possible outcome, not a prediction that this particular recording will be claimed or remain monetized. YouTube’s copyright-claims guidance.

Check your music permission before going live

  1. Confirm the exact track and recording. Check written terms for the particular composition and recording you plan to play; permission for one version does not necessarily cover another.
  2. Verify livestream use, territories, and archiving. Make sure the terms cover live broadcasts and the places where viewers may watch. If you plan to keep the stream archive, confirm that use too.
  3. Ask about Content ID allowlisting. If the rights holder or licensing provider uses Content ID, ask whether your channel can be allowlisted for the track. A license alone may not prevent a live interruption.
  4. Keep the documentation. Save the license, receipts, track identification, territory limits, and any allowlist confirmation so you can check them against a YouTube notice.
  5. Check YouTube Studio if there is a notice. Review the affected stream or archive and the claimant details. Do not dispute a claim unless you have the rights and grounds to do so.

YouTube’s livestream terms require creators to have the necessary rights for worldwide exploitation of live content, including music licensing rights. Read the livestream terms and conditions alongside the track’s own license.

Do not assume Creator Music clears a livestream

YouTube Creator Music offers licensing and revenue-sharing options for certain tracks in long-form videos, but its usage details say those tracks cannot be used in live streams or Shorts. Terms can vary by track and rights holder, and availability can differ by region. A Creator Music license or revenue-share option should not be treated as permission for a livestream. Creator Music usage details.

YouTube also describes replacing claimed audio with other audio from the YouTube Audio Library for eligible videos. That is a video claim-management option; it does not retroactively clear the live broadcast or replace the need to secure livestream rights. YouTube’s copyright-claims guidance.
