You can’t enable mobile live streaming with a toggle in the YouTube Studio app. YouTube’s published steps use the regular YouTube app: first make sure your channel and device meet the eligibility requirements, then open Create → Live and follow the on-screen setup. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours.
What you can—and can’t—do in the YouTube Studio app
The title’s app reference is easy to mix up: YouTube’s mobile instructions for creating and starting a live stream are for the YouTube app, not a Studio-app enablement switch. Studio is used to manage live streams and provides some controls, but the documented mobile creation route is in YouTube. YouTube Help: Create a live stream on mobile
If you are looking for a setting in Studio, switch to the YouTube app to start a phone-based broadcast. Before that, check that your account is eligible.

Check eligibility before trying to go live
- Channel verification: Your channel must be verified.
- Recent restrictions: The channel must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days.
- Age: YouTube says creators must be at least 16 years old to live stream.
- Mobile subscriber threshold: To stream from a mobile device, the channel needs at least 50 subscribers.
- Device software: YouTube’s current mobile help page lists Android 8.0 or later and iOS 8 or later.
- Activation: Live streaming must be turned on for the channel. For a first activation, YouTube says it may take up to 24 hours; that is a possible wait, not a promise that every channel will be enabled after exactly 24 hours.

Start a live stream in the YouTube app
- On your phone or tablet, open the YouTube app and sign in to the eligible channel.
- Tap Create, then choose Live.
- Enter the stream details. Set the visibility and audience options that apply to your broadcast. The app also supports scheduling and offers a screencast option.
- When you are ready to broadcast, tap Go live.
- When finished, tap Finish. YouTube creates an archive on your channel; you can later change its privacy or delete it.
These are YouTube’s documented mobile steps. Labels or screen layout can vary with app updates, but the cited instructions identify the YouTube app workflow. See YouTube’s mobile live-stream instructions.
Choose the right way to stream
YouTube supports several broadcast methods. Pick based on where you are and what the production needs, rather than buying equipment to solve an account-eligibility problem.

Why “Live” may be missing or unavailable
- The channel is not verified: Verify it, then check the live option again.
- Fewer than 50 subscribers: Mobile live streaming has a 50-subscriber minimum. This threshold applies to mobile streaming; YouTube lists other methods, including webcam, encoder, and console.
- A restriction is active or was applied in the last 90 days: YouTube’s live eligibility rules require no live-streaming restrictions in that period. Changing apps or devices does not remove an account restriction.
- First-time activation is still processing: YouTube says activation can take up to 24 hours. If you have just turned on live streaming, allow for that possible delay.
- The operating system is too old: Check the device against YouTube’s stated Android 8.0+ or iOS 8+ requirement.
- You are checking the wrong app: The cited instructions put mobile creation in YouTube, not a Studio-app toggle. Open YouTube and use Create → Live.
Reinstalling the app, buying gear, or switching to Studio is not a documented way to bypass eligibility requirements. If the channel meets the stated requirements and the option remains unavailable after the possible activation wait, consult YouTube Help for account-specific guidance.
