1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteIf OBS keeps reconnecting to YouTube after a Windows network adapter reset, first confirm Windows has working internet, then check OBS’s network binding and test one change at a time. The symptom points to a connection problem between your computer and YouTube’s ingest server, but it does not by itself identify whether Windows, Wi-Fi, OBS, your router, or your ISP is responsible.
Start with the connection, not OBS reinstallations
OBS Project’s Stream Connection Troubleshooting guide, dated September 30, 2024, says intermittent disconnections indicate a network issue between the computer and the remote stream ingest server. That is a general diagnosis of the connection path, not proof that the adapter reset caused a particular fault.
- Check Windows internet access. Open a browser and load a few sites. If they do not load, troubleshoot Windows connectivity before changing OBS settings.
- Check whether other internet activity is stable. A brief successful page load does not establish that the connection will remain steady while streaming. Note whether other devices or services are also having trouble.
- Change only one setting or condition at a time. Record whether reconnects continue after each test. This makes it easier to tell whether a change affected the symptom without treating a correlation as proof of the cause.
Check OBS network settings
Set Bind to IP to Default
- In OBS Studio, open Settings → Advanced → Network.
- Set Bind to IP to Default.
- Apply the change, then test the stream again.
OBS recommends this setting as a troubleshooting step. It is especially relevant after network-interface changes because a manually selected address or adapter may no longer be appropriate. The available guidance does not establish that this is the cause in every post-reset case.
Try Windows network options in OBS
In the same Settings → Advanced → Network area, OBS lists Enable Network Optimizations and Enable TCP pacing as Windows troubleshooting options. Try them as diagnostic changes, testing after each rather than switching several settings at once.

OBS also suggests trying IPv4 Only if other troubleshooting has not helped. If that makes no difference, OBS recommends returning to the default IPv4 and IPv6 setting. Treat this as a test, not a permanent rule for every network.
Use dynamic bitrate only as a mitigation
OBS’s dynamic bitrate option can lower bitrate when the connection cannot keep up. It may reduce dropped frames during congestion, but it does not repair the underlying connection and can reduce video quality. If it helps, continue investigating the network rather than assuming the issue is fixed.

Compare Wi-Fi with a wired connection
If the computer is on Wi-Fi, test Ethernet if practical. OBS recommends wired networking for streaming because Wi-Fi can be unstable. If Ethernet improves the stream, that is useful evidence to investigate wireless signal, interference, or equipment; it does not prove that Wi-Fi alone was the cause. An Ethernet cable is a diagnostic option, not a guaranteed fix.
If wired and wireless behave the same, keep investigating rather than replacing hardware immediately. OBS identifies security software, VPNs, bundled network utilities, outdated drivers, router or modem problems, and faulty hardware as possible contributors.

Use comparisons to narrow down where the fault appears
| Comparison | What to observe | What it can tell you |
|---|---|---|
| Windows internet access versus OBS streaming | Whether ordinary browsing or other internet use also fails | If other access fails too, Windows or the wider connection deserves attention. If only OBS disconnects, investigate the streaming path and OBS settings; neither result alone proves a specific cause. |
| Wi-Fi versus wired Ethernet | Whether the reconnect pattern changes on a wired connection | A difference makes the local wireless connection worth investigating; no difference does not rule out other network causes. |
| YouTube versus another streaming service or server | Whether the behavior changes when using another service or server | OBS says this comparison can help identify a service-related difference. It cannot, by itself, resolve or conclusively diagnose a general connection issue. |
| Before and after one OBS network setting | Whether reconnects change after a single setting is changed | A change helps narrow the investigation; it is not conclusive proof of the underlying cause. |
Repair Windows connectivity if internet access is also affected
Microsoft documents the following sequence for general Windows 10 and Windows 11 connectivity problems. These are Windows troubleshooting steps, not a confirmed OBS-specific remedy.
Run the network commands
- Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
- Run each command in order, waiting for it to finish before entering the next:
netsh winsock resetnetsh int ip resetipconfig /releaseipconfig /renewipconfig /flushdns - Restart the computer if prompted or when the sequence is complete, then check Windows internet access and OBS again.
Reinstall the network adapter driver if earlier steps fail
Microsoft also documents uninstalling the network adapter driver and restarting Windows so it can attempt to reinstall the driver. Before doing this, have a driver backup available in case Windows does not reinstall it automatically. For updated drivers, OBS recommends using the computer or motherboard manufacturer’s current network drivers.

Reserve Network reset for a last step
Microsoft describes Network reset as a last resort: it removes installed network adapters and their settings, then reinstalls the adapters with default settings after restart. A VPN client or Hyper-V virtual switch may need to be reinstalled or configured again. Use this only after less disruptive checks, and be prepared to restore network software and settings you rely on.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Check other causes if reconnects continue
- Security or VPN software: Check whether a firewall, security product, VPN, or bundled network utility could be interfering with the connection. Do not leave security protections disabled as a general fix.
- Drivers: Check the computer or motherboard manufacturer for a current network driver.
- Router or modem: If Windows connectivity is unstable across devices, investigate the network equipment and contact your ISP if its connection checks do not resolve the problem.
- Hardware: OBS notes that a faulty cable or network card can be a possible cause. Consider replacement only when checks point toward a faulty component, not as the first response to reconnects.
If Windows internet access remains unreliable after these checks, contact your ISP. If Windows is stable but OBS alone keeps disconnecting, share the observations from your one-change-at-a-time tests with the relevant support team rather than assuming the adapter itself is defective.
