First check whether the YouTube broadcast itself ended, or whether it is still live while the video source stopped or failed to advance. Those are different problems: YouTube’s encoder guidance explains how a stream ends when the encoder stops sending content, but does not document how third-party players repeat videos.
First determine what stopped
When the first video finishes, check the Live Control Room, the public watch page, and the encoder or playback app. Note whether the event still says it is live, whether its preview continues, and whether the encoder is still sending content. YouTube recommends monitoring stream health and messages and checking the preview before starting (YouTube encoder setup; YouTube streaming tips).
- The YouTube event ended: inspect whether the encoder or streaming service stopped transmitting when the video finished. YouTube’s setup guidance says to end a stream by stopping content transmission from the encoder. This makes encoder status an important clue, not proof that the encoder caused your particular failure. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived (YouTube live stream archiving).
- The event is still live, but the picture stopped or went blank: check whether the source player is still playing and sending video. The failure may be in the player, playlist, continuation or loop setting, or the automation supplying the next video. The YouTube guidance cited here does not document controls in third-party loop applications, so no particular setting can be confirmed as the fix.
- The event remains live and another video starts, but not the expected one: inspect the playlist order and the application’s behavior after a video ends. Record what happens rather than changing multiple settings at once.
Check the source loop separately from 4K60 stream quality
Resolution and frame rate are a separate diagnostic track. YouTube publishes encoder settings for reliable ingestion; those settings do not show that 4K or 60fps determines whether a source playlist repeats.
YouTube’s published 4K/2160p at 60fps figures
YouTube’s returned English settings table lists 10–40 Mbps for AV1 or H.265 and recommends 35 Mbps for H.264 at 4K/2160p and 60fps. It recommends a two-second keyframe interval, says not to exceed four seconds, and identifies normal latency—not the low-latency option—for 4K streams (YouTube encoder settings). Check which codec your encoder actually uses and verify its current values before changing them.

These are ingestion settings, not loop controls. If the stream stays healthy while the source stops at the end of a video, adjusting bitrate or keyframes is not an evidence-based loop fix.
Check upload capacity and stream health
YouTube recommends leaving 20% of available upload bandwidth unused as headroom. Run an upload speed test, compare the result with the total stream bitrate, and watch stream-health messages for interruptions (YouTube streaming tips). A network disruption can affect transmission, but the fact that a source failed to repeat does not by itself establish a network problem.

Check protocol requirements only if your encoder uses HLS
Do not change HLS settings unless your encoder is configured to send HLS. For HLS ingestion, YouTube specifies TS segments lasting one to four seconds, a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments, and HTTPS POST/PUT requests. YouTube also notes that HLS delivers video in segments and has higher latency than continuous RTMP (YouTube HLS ingestion requirements). These are broadcast-ingestion requirements; they do not explain why a source playlist stops after one video.
Capture these details before troubleshooting further
Keeping a short record helps distinguish a source-playback issue from a transmission issue and makes it easier to ask for useful support.

- Encoder or playback application name and version.
- Whether the YouTube event ended, remained live with a blank or frozen picture, or continued normally.
- Whether the encoder was still sending content at the moment of failure.
- Ingestion protocol, codec, resolution, frame rate, and bitrate.
- Any stream-health messages or error text.
- What the source player did when the first video ended, including whether the next item started.
YouTube recommends testing before going live with similar motion and audio, and monitoring the stream while it runs (YouTube encoder setup; YouTube streaming tips).
