The best teleprompter app for a YouTube creator depends on how you film: choose an all-in-one script-to-video app, voice-following prompts, or a simple script display for a separate camera and editing workflow. There is no universally best option established by the available product information, so match features to your setup and verify current compatibility and plan limits before paying.
Best teleprompter apps for YouTube creators
The feature descriptions below come from the vendors or app listing, not independent hands-on testing. Treat them as starting points for a shortlist rather than a definitive ranking.
BIGVU: an all-in-one script-to-video workflow
BIGVU describes support for iPhone, iPad, Android, and web. Its teleprompter includes adjustable scrolling speed, font size, and position; the company also describes recording, captions, editing, and social publishing. BIGVU says its free plan includes the teleprompter and basic recording. This may suit creators who want several production steps in one place. Check the current plan limits and platform details before committing. See BIGVU’s app comparison.
PromptSmart Pro: voice-following prompts
The App Store listing describes VoiceTrack, which follows spoken delivery, as well as mirrored text, selfie-mode HD video recording, camera controls, and document and cloud import and export. The listing says VoiceTrack supports English, recommends an external wired microphone but does not require one, and recommends scripts of up to 5,000 words. It also suggests keeping continuous VoiceTrack use to about 30 minutes or less; that is guidance, not a strict stated cap. Voice-following may appeal if you pause or vary your pace, but suitability depends on your setup and should not be treated as a performance guarantee. Review the listing for current device and operating-system requirements. Check the PromptSmart Pro App Store listing.

Choose an app for your filming workflow
- Confirm your device. Check whether the app supports your phone, tablet, desktop, or browser, and whether scripts sync across devices if you need that.
- Decide where you will record. Some apps offer recording inside the prompting app; others may work better as a script display alongside a camera and editing setup you already use. Confirm recording and export features for your chosen platform.
- Pick a control method. Manual scrolling is straightforward. Voice-following can track a spoken script, while a Bluetooth or other remote lets you control scrolling without touching the screen. Voice features can depend on supported language, microphone, and surroundings; check the app’s stated requirements.
- Set the prompt near the lens. With a phone, placing the text close to the camera lens can help keep your gaze near the viewer. If you film with a separate DSLR or mirrorless camera, a camera-mounted teleprompter uses beam-splitter glass to position reflected text in front of the lens. Check camera and device fit, glass, size, portability, and mounting compatibility before buying hardware. Digital Camera World’s guide covers teleprompter hardware considerations.
- Check the rest of your production workflow. If you want captions, editing, or social publishing in the same app, verify which features your current plan includes and how exports work. If you already edit elsewhere, a focused prompting app may be enough.
- Verify the price and renewal terms. Current app-store prices, trials, subscriptions, renewals, and feature gates are not established consistently across the vendor pages above. Confirm them in the official listing or checkout for your region before purchasing.
Do YouTube creators need a camera teleprompter?
No—not if you record directly on a phone and can position the script near its lens. A separate camera setup may benefit from a camera-mounted teleprompter when you want text aligned with the lens, but it is an optional accessory rather than a requirement for using a prompting app. Before buying, check compatibility with your camera and device, as well as the unit’s glass, size, and portability.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Or let a YouTube channel run in the cloud
A teleprompter helps you present while recording; it does not keep a prerecorded YouTube live stream running. For that separate job, StreamNeo lets you upload a recording or playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. StreamNeo loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It streams the file as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot, and can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. Learn about StreamNeo or start your free day.
