To make a prerecorded webinar available on YouTube at a chosen time, upload it in YouTube Studio and schedule its publication. Choose a Premiere instead if you want a shared countdown, reminders and live chat. If you will present or interact in real time, schedule a live stream and set its archive visibility afterward. The right option depends on whether the webinar is prerecorded or live, and whether viewers should experience it together.
Choose the right YouTube format
| Format | Best for | What viewers experience | Afterward |
|---|---|---|---|
| Scheduled video | A finished, prerecorded webinar that should become available at a specific time | The video becomes available at the scheduled time; viewers watch it on demand | It remains a regular video on your channel |
| Premiere | A prerecorded webinar you want to launch as a shared event | A public watch page before the start, reminders, and live chat; viewers watch the video together, can rewind, but cannot skip ahead of the point reached | The upload remains a regular video, and chat replay is available |
| Scheduled live stream | A webinar presented or hosted in real time | Viewers watch the live broadcast and can interact according to your stream settings | You can make the archived stream available as a replay, subject to archive capture and visibility settings |
YouTube’s help pages describe these distinct workflows and features; interface labels and eligibility may change. YouTube Help: Premieres · YouTube Help: schedule video publication · YouTube Help: live streaming
Schedule a prerecorded webinar as a regular video
Use this workflow when the main goal is on-demand access starting at a chosen date and time, without a countdown or communal viewing event.
- Upload the finished webinar in YouTube Studio.
- Enter the title, description, thumbnail and other video details.
- In the visibility or publication options, select the Schedule card.
- Choose the publication date, time and time zone, then schedule the video.
- Check the scheduled listing in Studio and share the watch link if appropriate.
YouTube notes that the date shown on the watch page is based on Pacific Standard Time. If you are scheduling for viewers in another time zone, check the displayed publication date so that the release does not appear to fall on an unexpected day. YouTube Help: schedule video publication

Make the prerecorded webinar a Premiere
Choose a Premiere when the video is already finished but you want viewers to arrive for a shared start, set reminders and chat while it plays.
- Upload the completed webinar and fill in its video details.
- Choose Schedule, set the date and time, and select the Premiere option.
- Before the start, share the public watch page. Visitors can set a reminder and participate in comments or chat.
- Join the chat during the event if you want to welcome viewers or answer questions; use the post-show period to respond or direct attendees to a relevant resource.
YouTube’s creator guidance recommends scheduling a Premiere at least 24 hours in advance so its thumbnail has an opportunity to appear in subscribers’ feeds. This is advice about timing, not a promise of attendance. After the Premiere, the video remains on the channel and chat replay is available. YouTube Help: Premieres · YouTube Help: Premiere tips

Schedule a live webinar and keep a replay
Use a live stream when a presenter will actually broadcast in real time. A webcam workflow can suit a straightforward computer presentation; an encoder is an option for a production using elements such as slides, overlays, cameras or microphones. YouTube says expensive equipment is not required. YouTube Help: live streaming from a computer · YouTube Help: encoder streaming
Check channel eligibility and choose a setup
- For computer live streaming, YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Confirm current eligibility in YouTube Studio before planning the event. YouTube Help: computer live-streaming tips
- Choose the webcam option for a simple computer presentation, or an encoder when you need a more involved production. A microphone or camera is optional and depends on your existing equipment and the production you want; neither requires buying expensive gear to get started, according to YouTube’s guidance.
- If the presentation includes third-party music, clips or other protected material, make sure you have the necessary rights and permissions before broadcasting or publishing the replay. Check the rights and platform rules relevant to your content rather than assuming that educational or webinar use automatically makes material available to use.
Schedule and preflight the broadcast
- In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and enter its title, description, privacy and other event details.
- Share the watch link ahead of time. YouTube recommends sharing a live-stream link at least 48 hours before the event; this is platform guidance, not an attendance guarantee. YouTube Help: promote your live stream
- Run a private or unlisted test and preview the stream in Live Control Room. Confirm that the correct audio and video sources appear as expected.
- Check that a local recording is being written, and keep monitoring audio and video during the webinar. YouTube recommends a local archive as a backup.
- At the scheduled time, start the stream using the webcam workflow or encoder you selected. For an encoder setup, use the stream key and settings shown for that stream in YouTube Studio; keep the key private and do not publish it in attendee materials.
Make the replay available after the event
YouTube can automatically archive streams shorter than 12 hours. Streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all, so the local recording is important if you need a dependable copy. The 12-hour guidance is from YouTube Help; the page does not state a publication year. YouTube Help: archive live streams

- In YouTube Studio, open Content > Live and find the stream.
- Choose the visibility that fits your audience: Public for channel discovery, Unlisted when you intend to distribute the link, or Private for more restricted access.
- Test the replay link using the same kind of account or access your intended viewers will use.
- Organize the full replay and any highlights in playlists if that will make them easier for viewers to find.
You can change the archive’s visibility after the event. YouTube Help: archive live streams · YouTube Help: change video privacy settings
Plan access, timing and production effort
- Choose access before sharing. Public videos can be discovered on your channel; unlisted videos are intended for people with the link; private videos restrict access further. Confirm that the setting matches your distribution plan and test it from a viewer’s perspective.
- Allow for time-zone display. YouTube says a scheduled video’s watch-page date is based on Pacific Standard Time, which can differ from the date expected by viewers elsewhere.
- Give event links lead time. YouTube recommends sharing a live link at least 48 hours ahead. For a Premiere, YouTube recommends scheduling at least 24 hours ahead to give the thumbnail an opportunity to appear in subscribers’ feeds. Neither timing recommendation guarantees an audience.
- Keep a local copy for live events. Automatic archive capture is not assured for streams longer than 12 hours, and YouTube recommends a local recording backup.
- Keep the production proportionate. A simple webcam presentation may be sufficient; add an encoder, microphones or cameras when the format genuinely needs them. YouTube says expensive equipment is not required.
Troubleshoot common webinar problems
The video is not public at the expected time
Open YouTube Studio and check the scheduled date, time, time zone and visibility. Also account for YouTube’s note that the watch-page date is based on Pacific Standard Time.

Viewers cannot access the replay
Check whether the archive is public, unlisted or private. If it is unlisted, send the correct link; if it is private, the intended viewers may not have access. Test from an account with the expected viewer permissions.
The live stream has no usable archive
Check Content > Live in Studio. A stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured automatically. If you made a local recording, use that copy to prepare and upload a replay.

The stream cannot be started
Confirm the channel is verified and has no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. In an encoder workflow, verify that the encoder is using the stream key for the correct scheduled stream, and preview the incoming signal in Live Control Room before going live.
Audio or video is wrong in the live preview
Run a private or unlisted test before the event. Check the selected camera, microphone and presentation sources, confirm the local recording is being written, and monitor the Live Control Room preview rather than waiting for attendees to report a problem.
The event link is not working for some attendees
Check the stream’s visibility and test the link while signed in as a viewer with the access level you intend to allow. A private stream is not equivalent to an unlisted link, and an unlisted event still requires the correct URL.
