A 24/7 YouTube stream’s Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) internet egress is driven mainly by the stream’s outgoing bitrate—not by how many people watch it. At a constant 10 Mbps, the feed transfers about 3.24 decimal TB in a 30-day month; at 12 Mbps, about 3.89 TB. Both fit within Oracle’s published first 10 TB/month of free public internet egress if other tenancy traffic does not use that allowance. Higher-bitrate 4K examples can exceed it.
Estimate monthly OCI egress from your stream bitrate
For a constant-bitrate feed running all month, use this estimate:
Monthly decimal TB ≈ bitrate in Mbps × 0.324
A 30-day month has 2,592,000 seconds. The calculation uses decimal units (1 TB = 1,000 GB) and estimates video payload, not every byte that OCI may meter. YouTube’s recommended H.264 ingest bitrates provide useful examples: 10 Mbps for 1080p30, 12 Mbps for 1080p60, 35 Mbps for 2160p30, and 50 Mbps for 2160p60. YouTube’s encoder settings list the recommendations.

Oracle’s current VCN pricing page lists the first 10 TB/month of public internet egress as free; Oracle’s Always Free documentation also describes a 10 TB/month outbound transfer resource. Treat that as a shared tenancy allowance, not as 10 TB reserved for the channel: other outbound workloads can consume some or all of it. What the overage estimates mean—and do not mean
The overage column uses an inferred rate from an Oracle Cloud Economics North America example whose prices were stated as of December 6, 2024. That example shows 50 TB/month, the first 10,000 GB free, and an OCI cost of $0.47 per hour, assuming 730 hours per month. Multiplying $0.47 by 730 gives about $343 for the example month; dividing by the 40,000 GB beyond the free threshold implies approximately $0.0085/GB. Applying that dated inferred rate yields the illustrative figures above. It is not a currently quoted rate or a universal price across regions. Oracle Cloud Economics provides the example.
The current region-specific overage rate and the exact billing aggregation and rounding applicable to a particular tenancy are not established here. Before budgeting a deployment, check the live OCI price list or calculator for your region and configuration. These estimates also exclude compute runtime, storage, IP and network resources, and any other OCI services; without an instance shape, region, storage plan, and architecture, there is no responsible way to state a complete monthly OCI bill.

Why viewers do not multiply the OCI stream transfer
The relevant egress is the creator-side feed sent from the encoder in OCI to YouTube over the public internet. Audience size does not multiply that outbound feed volume: YouTube says it automatically transcodes a live stream into formats for different devices and networks. That describes YouTube’s handling of distribution; it does not estimate YouTube’s own delivery costs. YouTube’s encoder documentation explains the transcoding process.
Allow for connection headroom without double-counting it
YouTube recommends about 20% extra upload bandwidth beyond the total outgoing stream bitrate so the connection has room for reliability. This is a connection-capacity recommendation, not an instruction to add 20% as though it were another video stream when estimating monthly payload. YouTube’s streaming tips advise leaving that headroom. Test with realistic audio and motion, then monitor stream health; bitrate variation, protocol overhead, and other egress can make metered bytes differ from the simple estimate.

Does the 10 TB free egress allowance apply only to a 24/7 stream?
No. Oracle describes it as a public internet egress allowance for the tenancy, so other outbound workloads may use part of it.
