To run an encoder through YouTube Live Control Room, create or select a live stream, copy its stream URL and key into the encoder, then start the encoder and verify the preview before going live. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to your stream. A 24/7 broadcast needs extra planning: YouTube warns that streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured as an archive, and DVR may be limited or unavailable.
Before you begin: check channel access and eligibility
YouTube says a channel must be verified and have had no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days to stream. Its overview also says creators must be at least 16. Review YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance and rules for avoiding live-streaming restrictions before planning a continuous broadcast.
YouTube documents limits of 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key. These are platform limits, not reliability targets. Do not try to bypass a restriction by switching channels; YouTube says that may count as circumvention. Copyright matches or strikes, age requirements, and content or safety violations can also affect access.
Set up the stream in YouTube Live Control Room
- Open the streaming workflow. In YouTube Studio, choose Create → Go Live. Use the Stream tab for an immediate encoder stream, or Manage to schedule one. Create a stream or select an existing one. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions cover this workflow.
- Choose visibility and audience deliberately. Set the stream to public, private, or unlisted as appropriate, and check the audience setting. YouTube’s privacy defaults vary by age group, so confirm the selection rather than assuming it.
- Copy the server URL and stream key. In Live Control Room, copy the stream URL and key into their matching fields in your encoder. If the encoder provides a YouTube preset, use it where appropriate. YouTube describes keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” See Manage live stream settings.
- Use RTMPS when supported. YouTube provides an RTMPS URL via the lock icon by the stream URL field. Select that URL in the encoder if it supports RTMPS. RTMPS encrypts the feed in transit; it does not protect a key that you expose or paste into the wrong place. Details: Encrypt your stream using RTMPS.
- Start the encoder and check the preview. For a scheduled stream, start the encoder, wait for the preview to appear in Live Control Room, inspect video and audio, then click Go live. For an immediate stream, follow the on-screen live workflow and verify the stream is arriving before directing viewers to it.
- End both sides cleanly. When ending the event, end it in YouTube and stop the encoder. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring the encoder setup rather than assuming the stream is healthy because the encoder appears to be running.
Protect the stream key
Only enter the key into the intended encoder. Keep screenshots, configuration exports, logs, and shared documents containing the key private, and give channel administration only to trusted people. YouTube says an owner or manager can reset the key in Live Control Room.

With the connection, this HDMI to USB C/3.0 video capture devices can be working on several Operating Systems and various software: Windows 7/ 8/ 10, Mac OS or above, Linux, Android, Laptop, Xbox One, PS3/PS4/PS5, Camera, DVDs, Set Top Box, Webcame, DSLR, Switch/Switch 2, TV BOX, HDTV, Potplayer/VLC, ZOOM, OBS Studio etc.
- 【Package Content & Note】 1x HD Audio Capture Card , 1x USB 3.0 to USB C Adapter (A-side 3.0, B-side 2.0), 1x user manual. Please note that you need to restart the OBS Studio software after the audio setup is complete, otherwise it will result in no sound output. When using an adapter, if the device is recognized as USB 2.0, try using the other side with the USB-C port. Simply flip the capture card and reconnect it to be recognized as USB 3.0
If you suspect the key has been exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and immediately replace the saved key in the encoder. Until the encoder uses the new key, it may fail to connect. RTMPS helps encrypt the outgoing feed, but it does not make a disclosed key safe.
Plan for the archive and viewer rewind
Do not count on YouTube to preserve one complete recording of a 24/7 transmission. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived; if a stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all. YouTube recommends making a local recording as a backup. Read Archive live streams.

DVR is a separate viewer feature. For streams longer than 12 hours, YouTube says DVR capabilities may be limited or unavailable. Viewers may not be able to rewind through the broadcast as they expect; see Turn on DVR on live streams.
If an archive is important, record locally and confirm that the recording is being written and has enough storage. Splitting a continuous broadcast into shorter sessions may suit some workflows, but YouTube’s documentation does not guarantee that doing so will preserve uninterrupted viewing or meet every archiving need. Verify the plan on your own channel before relying on it.

Prepare bandwidth, monitoring, and continuity
Leave upload headroom
YouTube advises that the total outgoing bitrate must fit the available upload bandwidth and recommends leaving 20% headroom. Account for primary and backup encoder traffic where applicable. This is setup guidance, not a promise that a connection will never drop. See YouTube’s streaming tips.
Test before the broadcast
For event preparation, YouTube recommends setting up the encoder at least two hours ahead and starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start. These are recommendations for preparing an event, not a 24/7 uptime standard. Check the preview, audio, video, network capacity, and local recording well before depending on the stream. YouTube’s live streaming tips explain the preparation guidance.

Monitor and test failover
Monitor the public watch page and mobile playback, and keep checking audio and video while the broadcast runs. If your setup has a backup encoder, test its failover behavior: YouTube recommends stopping the primary encoder or disconnecting its Ethernet cable and confirming that the player rolls to the backup. Failover depends on your setup; it is not automatic in every configuration.

- The encoder cannot connect: Check that the stream URL and key are in the correct fields, that the encoder is using the intended protocol URL, and that the key has not been reset. If it was reset, update the encoder with the new key.
- The preview does not appear: Confirm that the encoder is sending to the selected stream and that its network connection is working. Allow time for the preview to arrive; do not start a scheduled event until you can inspect it.
- The stream drops or becomes unstable: Check whether total outgoing bitrate exceeds available upload bandwidth. Leave YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom, include backup traffic in the calculation, and test any configured failover.
- Viewers cannot rewind or find a full archive: A stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured and may have limited or unavailable DVR. Keep a local recording; do not promise viewers a complete YouTube archive or full rewind.
- Someone else may have the key: Reset it in Live Control Room and replace it in the encoder. Also review who can access the channel and remove access that is no longer needed.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is a continuous YouTube broadcast from uploaded videos rather than a live camera production, StreamNeo can loop them from the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream, and each slot streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for YouTube and uploaded video, not camera-based live production. Start at StreamNeo’s free trial.
