A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11If a YouTube playlist plays the wrong video next, first confirm playback started from the playlist, then check its saved order and the watch-page queue. If a related video plays instead, check Autoplay. These are separate behaviors, and each has a different fix.
1. Make sure playback is coming from the playlist
Open the playlist itself and start a video from there. If a video ends and YouTube plays a related video rather than the next playlist item, playback may have left the playlist context. YouTube describes Autoplay as playing another related video after a video ends; it is not the same as the playlist’s sequence. YouTube Help: Autoplay videos
On a phone or tablet, the next video may not start automatically if you scroll past the player, type a comment, or enter a search. Check the device where the problem occurs: YouTube notes that Autoplay settings can differ across devices.
Check Autoplay
- Watch screen: Check the Autoplay switch on the watch screen.
- YouTube mobile app: You can also check Autoplay in the app’s Settings.
- TV: Check the Autoplay option in the TV app’s settings.
If the next item is a related video rather than a playlist item, check this setting and restart playback from the playlist.

2. Check and change the playlist’s saved order
Open the playlist and compare its displayed sequence with the order you expect. If the saved arrangement is wrong, reorder the items in the playlist. On desktop, YouTube’s instructions say to click and hold near a video or Short thumbnail, then drag it up or down. The reorder feature is unavailable for playlists containing only Shorts. YouTube Help: Create and manage playlists YouTube Help: Edit playlists
For a playlist you own, use YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio.
- Select Content, then Playlists.
- Open the playlist’s options and choose Edit.
- Change the video order and select Save.
YouTube notes that some Studio features may be unavailable to supervised accounts. YouTube Help: Manage playlists in YouTube Studio

3. Separate a temporary queue change from the saved order
The order shown in the playlist and the order used for the current playback session can differ. YouTube documents dragging a video up or down in the watch-page playlist panel to temporarily reorder playback. That changes the current playback order, not the playlist’s saved arrangement. If only the queue looks wrong, inspect that panel; if the playlist itself is ordered incorrectly, change the saved order instead. YouTube Help: Create and manage playlists
4. Consider shuffle only in the context where it applies
Google’s YouTube IFrame Player API documentation says shuffle causes videos to play in an order different from the playlist creator’s designated order. Turning shuffle off restores the original order in that API-controlled playback context. This describes embedded-player behavior for developers; it does not establish that controls work identically in every current YouTube app or interface. 5. If the order still seems wrong
Pin down what is happening before changing more settings. Record the device and YouTube app or browser, whether playback starts from the playlist or an individual video, whether all playlists are affected, and whether YouTube skips, repeats, or plays related videos. These details distinguish a saved-order issue from a queue or Autoplay issue.
YouTube Help Community posts include reports of playlists or queues skipping items or appearing to change order. Such posts show that users have described similar symptoms, but they do not confirm a platform-wide defect or an official fix. The reviewed guidance does not establish a general current app defect or support claims that clearing a cache, reinstalling, updating, or rolling back will fix this behavior. If YouTube’s desktop playlist-editing interface does not match its instructions, its Help page recommends updating to the current version. YouTube Help: Edit playlists
