To repeat a pre-recorded YouTube video in a browser running on an Azure VM, open its watch page, right-click inside the player, and select Loop. This repeats playback on the watch page; it does not create a YouTube livestream.
Loop a single YouTube video in the Azure VM browser
- Connect to the Azure VM and open a desktop web browser.
- Go to the YouTube video’s watch page and start playback if needed.
- Right-click inside the video player and select Loop.
- Leave the watch page open. The video repeats continuously until you turn Loop off, close the page, or playback is interrupted.
YouTube’s desktop help describes this built-in player control. The precise menu wording or layout may vary as YouTube updates its interface: YouTube Help: Loop videos or playlists.
Loop a playlist instead of one video
Single-video looping and playlist looping are different controls. Open the playlist so its playlist pane is visible, then use the Loop control for the list. Use the player’s Loop command when you want only the current video to repeat; use the playlist control when you want the videos in the list to cycle.
Loop playback is not a 24/7 YouTube livestream
A looped watch page is a viewer playing an existing YouTube upload repeatedly. It is not a live event, and opening it on an Azure VM does not broadcast that video from the VM to YouTube.

To publish prerecorded content as a continuous live broadcast, you need a separate encoder or service configured to send a stream to YouTube. YouTube’s encoder guidance describes broadcasting a production with an encoder and identifies Gyre as a cloud-based option for 24/7 livestreaming of prerecorded videos: YouTube Help: Go live with an encoder. Choose that workflow only if viewers need a live broadcast rather than a repeating watch-page video.
Azure VM and remote desktop playback considerations
VM network throughput
If the browser is running inside the VM and you watch through Remote Desktop, smoothness depends on the VM’s network capacity as well as the remote session. Azure VM sizes have different allocated outbound bandwidth limits. The limit applies to the VM’s outbound traffic across network interfaces and destinations, not just YouTube playback. Remote graphics and video
Remote Desktop must deliver the VM’s display to your local device, which can add graphics encoding and network load. Microsoft says full-screen video encoding can improve frame rate, but uses more bandwidth and resources on both ends. Where available, multimedia redirection sends the video bitstream to the local device for decoding and rendering, reducing processing work on the VM. GPU and codec settings
You do not need a GPU just to enable YouTube’s Loop setting. For Azure Virtual Desktop remote graphics, Microsoft says AVC/H.264 full-screen encoding can be enabled without GPU acceleration, while HEVC/H.265 requires a compatible GPU-enabled VM. Microsoft Learn also states that HEVC/H.265 can provide 25–50% better data compression than AVC/H.264 at the same video quality, or improved quality at the same bitrate; this is a remote-graphics codec comparison, not a reason to buy a GPU solely for looping playback. Troubleshooting
- The video plays once and stops: Right-click within the player and confirm Loop is enabled. A playlist’s loop control is separate from the single-video control.
- The video stutters in the remote session: Check the VM size’s allocated outbound throughput and the quality of the remote connection. If your environment supports multimedia redirection, test whether it improves playback by moving video decoding and rendering to your local device.
- Playback is smooth on the VM but choppy over Remote Desktop: The remote graphics session may be the bottleneck. Full-screen encoding can improve frame rate but raises resource and bandwidth use; codec and GPU choices depend on your Azure Virtual Desktop workload.
- You need viewers to see a live broadcast: A watch-page loop does not publish a live stream. Set up an encoder or cloud streaming service for the separate livestream workflow.
