Use Larix Broadcaster when your phone camera is the source; use OBS Studio when you need a desktop production with multiple sources, scenes, audio mixing, or transitions. Neither is proven to be the more reliable choice for an uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast. And if by “24/7 stream” you mean looping prerecorded videos without an operator, that is a playout workflow—not simply a choice between camera encoders.
First, decide what “24/7 stream” means
A continuous camera feed and an unattended loop of existing videos are different jobs. Larix Broadcaster and OBS are encoders used to send a live feed to YouTube. YouTube’s encoder guide separately identifies cloud services for 24/7 streaming of prerecorded videos, including Gyre and Upstream. When Larix Broadcaster makes more sense
Choose Larix if the phone itself is capturing the live video and you want to send that contribution to YouTube from a mobile encoder. It can also fit into a larger setup: Softvelum documents routing Larix into OBS, letting the phone act as a remote camera while the computer handles scenes and production.
That fit does not establish that a phone can run unattended indefinitely. Power, heat, network stability, and recovery after a disconnect depend on the particular device and setup; the cited materials do not guarantee continuous operation.

That makes it a stronger starting point for a show that combines, for example, a camera, screen capture, graphics, and separate audio sources. OBS is free and open-source desktop software. OBS’s production controls do not, by themselves, prove that a computer, power supply, internet connection, or stream will remain available continuously. The cited sources do not establish a universal reliability advantage for desktop streaming over mobile streaming.

Connect either encoder to YouTube
- Prepare the channel. If this is the channel’s first live stream, check YouTube’s live-stream setup requirements and allow time for any required enablement before the planned broadcast. YouTube encoder setup
- Get the destination details. In YouTube Live Control Room, copy the stream URL and stream key into the encoder’s stream settings. Treat the key like a password: do not expose it in screenshots, recordings, or public tutorials.
- Configure the chosen workflow. Set Larix to send the phone feed directly, or configure the sources and scenes in OBS. For Larix RTMP, Softvelum describes using the server URL together with the stream name/key and recommends video-plus-audio mode for connections; follow YouTube’s current requirements for the broadcast. - Start and verify the stream. Confirm YouTube receives the intended video and audio before relying on the broadcast. Do not assume a saved key, encoder, or connection will recover from every interruption without checking your setup.
What YouTube’s 12-hour archive guidance means
YouTube Help says, “All streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived.” This is an automatic-archive threshold, not a statement that every stream longer than 12 hours is impossible, and not evidence that Larix or OBS guarantees an uninterrupted 24/7 stream. Check YouTube’s current guidance when planning how a long broadcast and its archive should be handled. YouTube Help
Copyright and prerecorded content still matter
Choosing an encoder does not grant rights to the video or audio you broadcast. Before streaming, make sure you have the necessary rights to the material and follow YouTube’s current policies. For a loop of prerecorded videos, also choose a workflow designed for unattended playout rather than assuming a camera encoder will manage the playlist and continuous operation.

Operational checks and troubleshooting
- YouTube does not receive a stream: Recheck that the stream URL and key in the encoder match the current Live Control Room details. Keep the key private.
- Larix connects but the contribution has no audio: Check the phone’s audio permissions and input, then confirm the connection is configured for video plus audio as Softvelum describes.
- The broadcast drops: Check the device’s power, temperature, and network, then verify whether the encoder reconnects and YouTube receives the feed again. The cited product documentation does not promise uninterrupted recovery for either app.
- You need more than one camera or deliberate scene changes: Consider OBS for the desktop production, or use Larix as a phone contribution into an OBS workflow.
- You want to loop existing videos while away: Reconsider the workflow as cloud playout. YouTube’s guide lists services for 24/7 prerecorded streaming; a phone or desktop encoder is not proof of managed playout.
