OBS is the more suitable of these two for a 24/7 YouTube stream because it is a desktop encoder workflow, while Streamlabs Mobile is built to stream from a phone. But neither app guarantees an uninterrupted broadcast, and YouTube warns that streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured in the archive. If your goal is to loop prerecorded videos continuously without leaving a computer running, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative; it is not a camera-streaming app.
Which should you choose for a 24/7 YouTube stream?
| Factor | Streamlabs Mobile | OBS Studio |
|---|---|---|
| Device | iOS or Android phone | Desktop computer; OBS Studio is not a mobile edition |
| Best fit | Mobile camera or phone-game streaming, with scenes, overlays, alerts and chat | Desktop production, gameplay, screen sharing, overlays and external audio/video hardware |
| 24/7 suitability | Not established for unattended continuous operation; a phone-based workflow depends on the device, power, network and monitoring | More suitable of these two for a continuous encoder workflow, but uninterrupted uptime is not guaranteed |
| Documented uptime comparison | Not stated by the official sources cited here | Not stated by the official sources cited here |
| Relevant platform caveat | YouTube mobile-live eligibility applies | YouTube encoder setup requires a stream URL and protected stream key |
YouTube describes mobile streaming as a way to go live quickly, and encoder streaming as the route for gameplay, screen sharing, external hardware and more advanced productions. OBS is therefore the better fit when the stream is produced on a desktop. This is a workflow recommendation, not a result of identical uptime or performance tests: the official sources do not establish comparative uptime, thermal performance, battery life or recovery behavior.
Choose Streamlabs Mobile for a mobile-first broadcast
Streamlabs Mobile is an iOS and Android app for streaming from a phone camera or mobile game. Its product page lists support for iOS 14+ and Android 5.0+ and a free single-platform option; some capabilities, including multistreaming and disconnect protection, are listed as Ultra features. Confirm current plans and feature availability before relying on a paid capability. A power bank may help with additional battery, but it does not make a phone a proven 24/7 unattended streaming system.
Choose OBS for a desktop production
OBS Studio runs on desktop operating systems. Its requirements vary with the encoder, resolution, frame rate and scene complexity, so basic software compatibility does not establish that a particular computer can stream and record a demanding production reliably. Test the actual scenes and settings you intend to use.

Can you stream on YouTube 24/7 from a phone?
You can use Streamlabs Mobile to broadcast from a phone if your channel is eligible for YouTube mobile live streaming. YouTube Help lists at least 50 subscribers, channel verification, no live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days, and live streaming enabled among the requirements. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours. Check YouTube Studio to confirm that live streaming is available for your channel and region before building a phone-only plan.
Those eligibility requirements do not establish that a phone can safely or reliably run unattended around the clock. Continuous operation depends on power, network availability, the phone and app remaining operational, and someone noticing and responding to problems. The official sources cited here do not provide a Streamlabs Mobile uptime guarantee or a measured 24/7 battery or thermal result.

How to set up a 24/7 YouTube stream with OBS
- Check your channel and planned production. Confirm live streaming is enabled in YouTube Studio. Decide on the resolution, frame rate, scenes and audio sources, then verify that the computer and encoder can handle that workload. OBS requirements depend on those choices; no single computer specification suits every stream.
- Create or select the YouTube live stream. In YouTube’s live-control workflow, get the stream URL and stream key for the broadcast. YouTube’s encoder setup directs creators to enter both into their encoder.
- Enter the connection details in OBS. Open Settings > Stream, select YouTube as the service and connect the account or use the stream-key method shown in your current OBS version. If using the key method, enter the YouTube stream URL and stream key as required by the selected service configuration. Treat the key as a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your broadcast.
- Configure the production and test it. Add the scenes, video, audio and sources needed for the actual program. There is no universal bitrate, resolution, frame-rate or keyframe value established by the cited material for every OBS setup; use the current YouTube encoder guidance and match settings to your connection, encoder and content. Test the complete scene and audio chain before relying on it.
- Start the stream and verify it from YouTube. Confirm the encoder connects and check the live status, accessibility, and audio/video quality. If viewers must have a continuous feed, arrange human monitoring and a recovery plan; successful setup does not promise uninterrupted service.
- Keep a separate archive if the recording matters. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. YouTube recommends a local archive backup. Enable local recording if appropriate and check that the local archive file continues to grow during the broadcast.
Will YouTube archive a 24-hour livestream?
Do not rely on YouTube to archive a 24-hour stream intact. YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. The guidance recommends keeping a local archive backup. If an archive is important, plan how it will be recorded and checked independently of the live broadcast, and monitor local file growth during the event.
What can go wrong during a long broadcast?
- The channel cannot go live from mobile: Check the mobile eligibility requirements in YouTube Studio, including subscriber threshold, verification, recent restrictions and whether live streaming has been enabled. Allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation.
- The encoder does not connect: Check that OBS has the correct YouTube stream URL and current stream key. Because the key is a credential, replace it in OBS if it may have been exposed.
- The computer struggles with the production: Reduce the workload or revise the resolution, frame rate, encoder or scene complexity, then test again. OBS capacity depends on the combined settings and sources rather than compatibility alone.
- The broadcast drops: Check the computer, power, network, encoder and YouTube stream status, then reconnect according to the encoder workflow. The cited official guidance does not establish guaranteed recovery behavior or uptime for OBS or Streamlabs Mobile.
- The live stream exists but the archive is missing or incomplete: A broadcast exceeding 12 hours may not be captured by YouTube. Use the local archive workflow rather than assuming the platform will preserve it.
- The phone stops streaming: Check power, network and app/device status. A power bank can add battery, but it does not address every interruption or establish suitability for unattended 24/7 use.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is a continuous YouTube stream from prerecorded videos rather than a live camera feed, StreamNeo is the first alternative to consider: it loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, then go live. Your computer can be off while the cloud stream runs.
