While the video is playing, open More, choose Save, then select the playlist. In the YouTube app on iPhone or iPad, tap Change if you need to pick a different destination. You can also create a playlist from the picker.
Save the video you’re watching to a playlist
On a computer
- Open the video’s watch page and start watching.
- Open the video’s More menu and select Save.
- Choose the playlist where you want to save the video. For YouTube’s built-in Watch Later list, the documented sequence is More → Save → Watch later.
YouTube’s menu labels and layout can vary slightly. If you mean saving an entire playlist to your library rather than adding the playing video, open the playlist panel and select Save playlist; that is a different action. YouTube Help: Add and remove videos from Watch Later on a computer.
In the YouTube app on Android
- On the video’s watch page, tap More → Save.
- YouTube may save it to the last playlist you used or to Watch Later.
- If that is not the destination you want, tap Change in the confirmation message, then choose the right playlist.

On iPhone or iPad
- On the video’s watch page, tap More → Save.
- Tap Change to open the destination choices if YouTube’s initial save target is not right.
- Select Watch Later or another playlist.

Create a playlist if you don’t have one yet
- Open the playlist picker using More → Save.
- Choose New playlist or, on the YouTube mobile site, Create new playlist.
- Enter a name, choose the playlist’s visibility, and create it.
A private playlist is visible only to its owner. Controls can differ between the native app and YouTube’s mobile website, but both offer a way to create a playlist from a video-saving flow. YouTube Help: Create and manage playlists on Android.
When YouTube won’t let you save the video
A video marked Made for Kids cannot be added to a playlist or saved to Watch Later. YouTube also describes a more specific homepage restriction: when a video or channel is Made for Kids and you are browsing the homepage, adding it there is unavailable; the Android help says saving from search results remains possible. The restriction and exception should not be generalized beyond those contexts. Playlist saving is different from adding a video to the queue
Saving to a playlist keeps the video in that list so you can return to it later. Queueing only arranges what plays next in the current session: YouTube says the computer queue does not persist after you close the browser and recommends Watch Later for videos you plan to watch later. Queueing on mobile requires YouTube Premium; that requirement applies to mobile queueing, not to saving a video to a playlist. YouTube Help: Queue videos on YouTube.
