You can use XSplit Broadcaster to play prerecorded video into a YouTube Live broadcast: add a video file or a Video Playlist source, configure a YouTube Live output, then start the broadcast. That setup does not guarantee an unattended 24/7 stream. Your PC, XSplit, network connection, and YouTube broadcast all need to keep working, and YouTube’s automatic archive behavior has a duration limit.
Before you start: prepare your YouTube channel
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it before you plan to broadcast. Check current eligibility and activation status in YouTube Studio; all live content remains subject to YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. See YouTube’s live-streaming access instructions and live-streaming restrictions.
Install XSplit Broadcaster on the Windows computer that will run the broadcast. YouTube lists XSplit Broadcaster among its encoder options; check XSplit’s product page for current system requirements and plan details, since these can change.
Add prerecorded video to an XSplit scene
Play one video file
- Open XSplit Broadcaster and select the scene you want to use.
- Choose Add Source > Video File, select a local file, and open it. XSplit lists common formats including MP4, FLV, and WEBM. Its media-source guide explains that you can right-click the video source to open its properties and playback controls.
- Position and size the source in the scene so it fills the intended output area. Preview the scene and confirm that the clip plays with its audio before connecting to YouTube.
Play multiple videos
For multiple prerecorded clips, add XSplit’s Video Playlist source and configure its continuous-playback options. XSplit also lists a Media Slideshow source, but that is intended for images rather than a video playlist. See the XSplit source overview. The documentation describes these source capabilities; test the playlist behavior and transitions in your installed version rather than assuming a 24-hour session has been validated.

Connect XSplit to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio, create or select a live stream. For an encoder stream, YouTube provides a stream URL and stream key. Treat the key like a password: YouTube uses it to accept the encoder’s feed. Do not post it publicly or share it with anyone who does not need access.
- In XSplit Broadcaster, open the Broadcast menu and create or select a YouTube Live output. Follow the current XSplit prompts to enter the broadcast details and connect the output. XSplit’s YouTube Live guide documents this workflow; YouTube’s encoder setup guide describes the stream URL and key.
- If you are using a scheduled YouTube event, select that event in XSplit’s Broadcast Details. XSplit’s guide describes a Manual Transition option: when it is checked, the encoder can be running while you still need to click Go Live in YouTube Studio; when it is unchecked, starting the XSplit broadcast starts the YouTube stream automatically. The option’s default and labels can change, so confirm the behavior in your current XSplit version and verify the stream is live in Studio.
Test before leaving the broadcast unattended
Start with a private or unlisted test if you need to check the scene without announcing it publicly. Confirm that the video and audio are present, the YouTube watch page loads, and the picture remains stable. YouTube recommends previewing, monitoring audio and video quality, setting up in advance, and using a reliable network. Its scheduled-event guidance recommends starting the encoder 15 minutes before the event; that is event-planning advice, not a promise of 24/7 reliability. YouTube warns: “A disruption on your connectivity could mean a broken stream.” See YouTube’s streaming tips and encoder guidance.
- Keep the computer powered and prevent sleep or shutdown while XSplit is broadcasting.
- Check that the selected scene remains active and that the playlist or clip continues to play as expected.
- Monitor the stream from YouTube Studio or another device. XSplit playback does not protect against a PC crash, power loss, software failure, or network interruption.
- Do not assume an interrupted broadcast will resume by itself. The documentation reviewed does not establish automatic recovery from every failure type.
Understand YouTube’s replay limit
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not count on a single 24-hour broadcast becoming one complete automatically archived replay. Check the resulting recording in YouTube Studio and plan your broadcast and replay approach around YouTube’s current behavior. See YouTube’s live-stream archive information.

Copyright and channel-policy checks still apply
Prerecorded playback does not exempt a stream from YouTube rules. Before broadcasting, make sure you have the rights needed for every video, song, image, and other element in the stream, and ensure the material complies with YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. A loop is still live content from the platform’s perspective; it does not bypass a channel restriction or resolve a copyright issue.
Common problems and fixes
