You can use Streamlabs Desktop to broadcast to YouTube continuously, but the stream depends on your computer, power, internet connection and monitoring staying available. Before setting it up, note YouTube’s 12-hour archive limit: a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. For prerecorded video that must keep running without a dedicated computer, a cloud option such as StreamNeo is an alternative.
What you need before starting
- An eligible YouTube channel: YouTube requires the channel to be verified, have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and be operated by someone at least 16 years old. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it in advance. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance and encoder guide.
- A compatible computer: Streamlabs lists Windows 10 or later and macOS 12 or later for its YouTube workflow. Check the current Streamlabs YouTube page before installing.
- A stable local setup: The computer, network equipment and internet connection must remain available. In India, as anywhere else, check your own power conditions, upload connection, data plan, cooling and equipment needs; the cited official guidance does not provide India-specific reliability or sizing recommendations.
- A recording plan: If keeping a copy matters, plan a local recording and ensure the computer has enough free storage for the intended duration and quality.
Set up Streamlabs Desktop for YouTube
- Enable YouTube live streaming. Sign in to the channel, complete any verification YouTube requires and turn on live streaming in YouTube Studio. Allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation.
- Install Streamlabs Desktop. Use a compatible Windows 10+ or macOS 12+ computer. Streamlabs’ connected-account workflow does not require you to enter a stream key manually; see its YouTube setup guide.
- Connect the YouTube account. In Streamlabs Desktop, use the account connection/sign-in workflow and authorize the YouTube channel you intend to broadcast from. Follow the current prompts in the installed version.
- Configure the broadcast. Add and arrange the video and audio sources you need, then review the output in Streamlabs. For a prerecorded 24/7 presentation, make sure the content source plays continuously and that audio does not stop or loop with an unintended gap.
- Run a low-risk test. Start with an unlisted test or another low-risk broadcast. Check the preview and stream health in YouTube Live Control Room, and confirm both picture and sound before relying on the setup for an extended run. YouTube’s computer live-stream tips recommend encoder checks and continuous monitoring.
- Enable local recording if needed. Confirm Streamlabs’ recording settings and available disk space before going live. During the stream, check that the local file is growing; YouTube also recommends verifying the local archive backup.
- Keep watch while live. Monitor stream health, audio and video quality. YouTube describes testing failover by stopping the primary encoder or disconnecting its Ethernet cable and confirming the backup player, but that guidance applies to a deliberate redundant setup; it does not establish automatic backup for a single Streamlabs computer.
What it takes to keep a local stream running
Streamlabs Desktop runs on your computer, so uninterrupted streaming requires the computer and its network path to stay on and connected. Sleep, shutdown, a power cut, a router failure, an ISP interruption or an encoder problem can stop the broadcast. A UPS can help with brief power interruptions if it is sized for the computer and networking equipment, but it cannot fix internet or YouTube outages. There is no verified universal upload-speed, storage-rate or UPS-capacity figure for every setup; check the requirements of your resolution, equipment and connection.
For a genuinely unattended broadcast, account for who will notice a fault and respond. YouTube recommends continuously monitoring streams for audio and video quality. A scheduled test of the complete setup can reveal problems with source playback, sound, power settings, disk space or connection before they affect a longer broadcast.
Plan around YouTube’s 12-hour archive limit
YouTube says that streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but warns: “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” YouTube’s archive guidance therefore makes a single 24-hour broadcast an unsafe plan if you need a complete YouTube recording. YouTube’s separate DVR guidance also says rewind may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours.

If a full recording is important, record locally and verify the file as it grows. The broadcast stops unexpectedly
Check whether the computer slept, restarted or lost power, and inspect the router and internet connection. A UPS may bridge a short power interruption within its capacity, but it will not maintain an ISP connection or prevent a YouTube-side issue. Review YouTube Live Control Room’s stream health to narrow down the problem.
There is no sound or the picture is wrong
Check the selected audio and video sources in Streamlabs and verify the YouTube preview before publishing broadly. Monitor the output during the stream rather than assuming the configured sources continue working.

The YouTube archive is missing or incomplete
Check the broadcast duration first: YouTube warns that an over-12-hour stream may not be captured at all, and DVR rewind may also be limited or unavailable beyond that length. Use a verified local recording when an archive is essential.
The local recording stops or the disk fills
Confirm recording is enabled, inspect the output location and available free space, and check during the broadcast that the file continues growing. Storage use varies with settings and content; do not rely on an unverified fixed estimate for a long recording.

Copyright and content checks for a continuous stream
Use video, music and other material you own or are authorized to broadcast, and review YouTube’s applicable rules before starting. A continuous format does not itself establish permission to use third-party content. Keep a local copy if needed, but remember that recording does not grant rights to the material.
For a prerecorded 24/7 channel, also consider whether the content offers sufficient originality and value for the channel’s intended audience and any monetization review. YouTube policy decisions depend on the channel and content; do not assume that looping a video guarantees eligibility or acceptance.
